Chapter 1097: Chapter 1097: Buried Deep Underground
Even if the number of Aliens in this area wasn’t overwhelming, when they rushed from their various lairs towards the explosion site, their numbers were still considerable. Especially since some of the Aliens seemed not too intelligent, attempting to force their way through rocks when their own kind couldn’t squeeze past.
Normally this wouldn’t be an issue, but the problem was that Zheng and Jiang were not the only ones in the underground lairs. So, when too many Aliens got stuck and were unable to open up the heavy rocks, small bombs came in handy.
While setting off bombs on one side and coordinating with the other, explosions were heard from three different locations—now no one had time to mind others as everyone was only thinking about how to save themselves. Therefore, there was no restraint in using the explosives, and coupled with the fact that the area above them had just been thoroughly tunneled by Unit 114, the combined efforts led to the collapse of a stone belt!
Before Unit 114 could even break through to the surface, heavy stones rained down from above, tumbling down like an avalanche to the floor, causing the already unstable caves to teeter on the brink of collapse. The shaking of the earth lasted only seconds before the caves collapsed and the passageways were buried, leaving no room to move in the completely compressed space around them!
Xu Huo had already retracted Unit 114 to the ground before the stone ceiling collapsed. Taking out Shelter 101, he entered without closing the door and subsequently activated "Unassailable Territory" and "Three Seconds of a Lifetime."
The sound of stones pounding on the Defense Prop and the Aliens’ screams of agony alternated, quieting down only after about three minutes. By the time silence fell outside, four minutes had passed.
The entrance of Shelter 101 was blocked by two large stones, but from the inside looking out, there were large gaps between the piled-up stones, not completely sealed off, although the vision was obscured by heavy dust.
Xu Huo activated a lighting Prop to probe inside, and suddenly a claw reached out from the side. He withdrew his hand, turned the light source around, and saw two Aliens crushed between rocks, flesh smashed, viscera spilling out, barely clinging to life.
There were dead Aliens everywhere nearby, but there were also those who had narrowly survived by lying next to large rocks.
Shelter 101 was under pressure and couldn’t be recovered for the time being, so Xu Huo had Unit 114 dig a tunnel at the entrance, barely creating a passage from between the crevices of rocks while he cleared away the debris that was dug out.
Just as Shelter 101 was about to be filled up, Unit 114 came back from below.
In such a short time, it would not have been able to dig a tunnel to the surface. Xu Huo looked at Unit 114’s recordings and found that the exit it found was not on the surface but a partially collapsed tunnel.
Clearly, there were other people in the tunnel.
It wasn’t a solution to stay stuck here; Xu Huo first retracted the Prop, and before the stones above could fall, leaped into the underground passage, charging out in one go.
Wang Mo and Pu Gaoshan were setting up Props at the entrance of the hole dug by Unit 114.
"Such a good robot definitely doesn’t belong to someone from Xiaohe City. Wonder if it’s owned by the Zhou family or Xu Huo. But no matter who it belongs to, I’ll happily take this robot..."
Before he could finish, several Ice Pearls were thrown out. One hit Wang Mo’s arm, startling him into retreating. He then activated the remaining dancing Ice Pearls at the same time, also setting off the roped blade and the big bell at the entrance!
However, unexpectedly, an invisible force pushed through the roped blade first. Wang Mo and Pu Gaoshan watched as Xu Huo, still a short distance away from the entrance, reached out and touched the Prop. The roped blade, big bell, and other Props arranged around were all disabled, some even disintegrating!
Shock of varying degrees appeared in their eyes, and the next second, they unanimously activated their Defense Props to block the person inside the tunnel, but with two "clang" sounds, they were both kicked out, and Xu Huo smoothly emerged, delivering a suppression combo to them—Pu Gaoshan was hung in the air by the chains of "Hell’s Prison," and Wang Mo was smashed against the rock wall by "Gravity Compression."
Dusting off his clothes, Xu Huo smiled behind his protective shield at the two of them, "What a coincidence, gentlemen."
Pu Gaoshan couldn’t break free from "Hell’s Prison," but Wang Mo managed to escape the gravity holding him down. However, he didn’t attempt to rescue his companion or attack the enemy but instead retreated to a corner.
"This section of the tunnel is only ten meters long; where can you hide?" Xu Huo glanced at him, casually took out a chair, and sat down, "This is a good spot; let’s sort things out before we leave."
"What’s the question?" Wang Mo’s gaze shifted back and forth between him and Pu Gaoshan, while his palm slowly rotated.
Xu Huo pointed at him with his chin, "There are two people here, but only one is needed to answer questions."
As their eyes met, Wang Mo couldn’t help but step back until he hit the wall and came back to his senses, then he asked solemnly a moment later, "What do you want to know?"
Xu Huo wasn’t in a hurry to ask, but instead said, "This question has also been asked by your other companions, but I didn’t give an answer at that time."
"Later I thought about it, you guys were the first to arrive at this place, so you should tell me what I need to know."
"This place is cramped and could collapse at any moment, why don’t we make this quick?"
Pu Gaoshan gave a cold smile, "You want to know and we must tell you?"
"Not to mention two against one, even one on one, do you really dare to fight us with all you’ve got? If the corridor collapses, it’s not just us who’ll die!"
"You talk tough," Xu Huo looked up at him, "Do you know why I let you go all by yourself by the riverbank?"
Pu Gaoshan squinted his eyes as if he heard a joke, "You let me go? It’s probably because you set up traps nearby in advance, and Yuan Kai and the others were unlucky enough to stumble into them."
"That’s one way to think," Xu Huo nodded, "From your words, one can tell you are a person with courage but no prudence, and probably not someone who always thinks things through seriously."
After saying that, he smiled and then asked, "Ever eaten human flesh?"
Both of them reacted.
Without pursuing an answer, Xu Huo turned to Wang Mo, "Pu Gaoshan told the other companions about me killing people, seven against two, why didn’t you act?"
Wang Mo felt a psychological pressure, believing that the man in front of him was probably harder to deal with than Jiang Wenzhang had described, and after some thought, said, "It was Jiang Wenzhang’s decision."
Xu Huo shook his head, "That’s not the answer."
Wang Mo glanced at Pu Gaoshan, "Jiang Wenzhang was afraid he couldn’t beat you and would end up both sides losing, he wanted to wait until we got back to Xiaohe City to deal with you."
Xu Huo laughed, "If that’s the case, why would you give me the map to go catch the Variant Cub? It’s simply because you don’t want to go to the effort of dealing with me."
"But that’s also not the real reason, there must be other reasons."
"From meeting Zheng Da, to Xiaohe City, and now this outing, you aren’t in a hurry to take action against me and my companions, despite your polite thoroughness not matching up with you bunch of wanted criminals, but you have indeed managed to do so..."
Noticing fluctuations in Pu Gaoshan’s expression, he directed his gaze at him, "Do you know the real reason?"
