Chapter 1088: Clearly Understanding

Chapter 1088: Chapter 1088: Clearly Understanding

Xiaohe City, at least this commercial building had its use of spatial artifacts restricted, but just now he clearly felt a fluctuation of spatial power behind him, and yet when he turned around, he saw no one. Could it be that this building is currently under the control of a Rank-A or higher spatial artifact?

This was not an impossibility. Mr. Kang and over half of the people here were Cannibal Players. If someone wanted to eat people openly and legitimately, it would make sense to use a prop to fabricate bizarre disappearances. Moreover, this was also Xu Huo’s initial reaction upon hearing about the strange disappearances from Miss Ma and the others.

Miss Ma and the others knew very little about the relevant details, perhaps because other players intentionally concealed them.

If this direction was correct, it would be both good and bad for their group. The good news was that the enemy was a real Player, and not an even more unpredictable existence. The downside, however, was that the players from Xiaohe City could besiege them at any time without restraint.

It might be worth trying with Mr. Kang.

After putting away his prop, Xu Huo then checked the rooms in District 002. There was one person missing from a room where men were staying.

Those who were less concerned had already fallen asleep; only one person was huddled in the corner of the bed, trembling non-stop. Seeing Xu Huo, he immediately rushed up to him and said with a sobbing voice: "Brother Liu disappeared suddenly... He ate too much just now, we went to the bathroom together, we were squatting side by side, he stopped talking in the middle of our conversation, and I couldn’t find anyone when I came out..."

Xu Huo avoided him and glanced his way, "Did you wash your hands when you came out?"

The other person was stunned, with an expression as if to say, "You actually only care whether I washed my hands in this matter of life and death," but seeing Xu Huo’s stern face, he sheepishly lowered his head.

"I’ve gotten the gist of it," Xu Huo said, "Just because there’s a bed to sleep on doesn’t mean it’s safe. Don’t wander around at night."

The person nodded hastily, "Can I follow you?"

"Just stay put here." Xu Huo left the room and, by the way, took a trip to the bathroom.

Snatching away an ordinary person was too easy, especially since the person from before hadn’t seen how they disappeared.

When he was going out, a remote-controlled car reached the door; the camera turned towards him for a moment and then moved away, continuing to run along the corridor.

Xu Huo’s eyebrows rose slightly. It seemed they really didn’t dare come out.

Returning to his room, Guan Shu and the others had already rested. He nodded to Chi Minghong, who had his eyes open, and then lay down on the bed.

The latter half of the night passed quickly, but outside it barely brightened. The sky was heavy with dark clouds, seeming to portend heavy rain.

The morning was not peaceful; three players and one ordinary person had gone missing.

Some saw Zeng Shangping leave his room on his own, so he was also listed under "strange disappearances."

But no one saw Sun Jing leave his room.

"My sports car didn’t capture him either," said a bald player who was repairing machinery, "If it’s not a disappearance, then he must have been killed by somebody."

"It sure was lively last night."

He implied something with his chin gesturing towards Xu Huo and others.

The situation was clear to them both; it would have been impossible for Xu Huo’s team to completely avoid the sight of Xiaohe City players when they went out, and those players would not come out to interfere with them at night, maintaining a barely peaceful status.

"Miss Ma?" Mr. Kang looked toward Miss Ma.

Sun Jing was Miss Ma’s regular partner.

Miss Ma had seemed in poor spirits since she left the room, with dark circles under her eyes and a dazed expression. When named by Mr. Kang, she instinctively sized up Mr. Kang as if judging something.

"Ma Chunchun." Gong Jiaji interrupted her, "Mr. Kang is asking you a question."

Miss Ma glimpsed Xu Huo not far away and saw Cao Zheng and Qian Zi, who seemed utterly unaffected by the incident, her face showed bewilderment and then a trace of caution, "Sun Jing and I had a quarrel."

"You sure are something, still fighting and creating trouble at this time!" Qian Zi said agitatedly, "I knew Sun Jing would be doomed by you someday!"

Miss Ma was not a mild-tempered person, and Qian Zi was intentionally picking a fight, but to her surprise, instead of responding to the provocation, Miss Ma just lowered her head and sat down nearby, looking like she was swallowing her anger.

Seeing her like this, Qian Zi was at a loss for words.

At this moment, the frail-looking Jiang Wenzhang began to speak, "Sun Jing left the room on his own, he should have known what consequences could be outside."

Qian Zi gave him a cold look, "You said you saw Zeng Shangping leave his room on his own, but Wang Mo’s machine didn’t catch it, who knows if he’s disappeared or been killed by someone with ulterior motives."

Jiang Wenzhang’s action of lifting his glasses paused, and then he looked up, "What are you saying?"

Locking eyes with him, Qian Zi involuntarily stepped back, then grew even angrier, "Have the guts not to use characteristics, and if you’re a man, fight a fair fight!"

"Why should I fight with you?" Jiang Wenzhang said unflappably, "Fighting isn’t my forte; you might as well directly tell me to stand still."

Qian Zi really wanted to start a fight, but it was only halted by Cao Zheng, who gave her a look, and immediately Qian Zi turned to Mr. Kang, "Mr. Kang, Jiang Wenzhang and Zeng Shangping had old grudges. Without any rhyme or reason, why would Zeng Shangping come out on his own?"

Mr. Kang was not particularly concerned with their dispute but was more worried about Xu Huo and his group since they had missing people too.

Guan Shu claimed that You Xuewen disappeared while going to the bathroom and then made inquiries about the "strange disappearances" that hadn’t been elaborated on the night before.

"This is no secret in Xiaohe City," Mr. Kang explained amicably, "Every time foreign players enter our district, Xiaohe City, like a reflex, experiences personnel disappearances."

"Whether we can find the players from outside or not, this situation is unavoidable."

"Wenzhang speculates it’s because the intrusion of the players startles the Different Species Group, leading to some special Alien infiltrating Xiaohe City to hunt."

"You might not know that our district originally had a kind of chameleon that, after evolution, developed the ability to blend completely into the environment with protective coloring. Of course, since this chameleon evolved, we have never seen them again when walking outside."

"But that doesn’t mean they have gone extinct."

"So, you think it’s these chameleons causing trouble?" Guan Shu pondered and then said, "They’re just a type of Mutant Beast, they shouldn’t be hard to catch, right?"

"Mr. Kang was only giving an example, not that it’s necessarily the chameleons." Jiang Wenzhang cut in, "We have many peculiar species here unheard of in other districts, so we bought a special space restrictor, hoping to prevent such situations. However, unfortunately, despite many attempts, no solution has been found."

"Could it be a special random instance that was born?" Xu Huo said, "I’ve seen some instances with very strange entrances, maybe there’s an entrance that keeps moving."
