Chapter 1086: Treatment Effect
Chapter 1086: Chapter 1086: Treatment Effect
Uncle You’s disappearance was so sudden and completely without a trace; not only were there no signs of other players, but even Uncle You himself didn’t make a sound. Even if he was moved away by a prop from a distance, there would be a process, not like this where there’s no clue at all.
Lin Qiao and Zhou Yuanzhu both had serious and puzzled expressions.
"Was he standing here just now?" Xu Huo indicated the spot where he stood.
"A bit to the right." Zhou Yuanzhu said.
Xu Huo walked a little to the right and released his Psychic Power to search between the two floors, still finding nothing unusual here.
"Let’s go back first." he pondered and said.
Back in the room on the second floor, Zhou Yuanzhu immediately recounted the situation to Guan Shu and asked, "Uncle Guan, is there a prop that can make people disappear suddenly? Like long-distance teleportation or something?"
Guan Shu’s face turned serious, "Hard to say, but since you didn’t find anyone nearby, generally teleportation props require the player to wear them, if someone wanted to take Uncle You away, the other party would have to act personally..."
"I swear I absolutely didn’t see anyone, and Uncle You also made no sound." Zhou Yuanzhu hastily added.
"Did you notice anything else when Uncle You disappeared?" Xu Huo asked, "As a Rank-B player, you should be more sensitive."
Guan Shu shook his head, "Even Advanced Players have limited hearing, especially here where there are many rooms and partitions, it’s very difficult to know exactly what happened if a player intentionally conceals their sounds behind the floorboards."
Lin Qiao and Zhou Yuanzhu, who were so close by, didn’t realize what had happened, let alone him on the floor below.
"If it was someone from Xiaohe City who did this, our situation would become even more difficult." Ruan Qiyuan said.
"It might not necessarily be a prop." Xu Huo then shared the information he learned from Miss Ma and others; even Guan Shu found it bewildering, "So even the people of Xiaohe City don’t know how those people disappeared?"
"No wonder they warned us not to roam around at night," Ruan Qiyuan said: "They probably did it deliberately to provoke us to go out."
Compared to the players of Xiaohe City, the unknown dangers from the instance made them even more passive. They didn’t know how the dangers occurred, their patterns, or when they would end, making any moves only more restrictive.
"However, thinking about it the other way, this also has certain benefits," Chi Minghong said: "At least the people of Xiaohe City are wary of instance attacks and dare not act against us for the time being; delaying even a few days helps, let’s first figure out the dangers in the instance, otherwise even if we leave Xiaohe City, we won’t know when we’ll encounter it again, there are still twelve days left."
"What about Uncle You?" Zhou Yuanzhu looked at everyone.
The others fell silent; Uncle You’s disappearance was too eerie, even if he had been abducted by players from Xiaohe City, they currently lacked the strength to confront them directly.
"We really shouldn’t have come here," Zhou Yuanzhu lamented.
This was just an exclamation. According to Miss Ma and the others, the players of Xiaohe City already know the conditions for these mysterious disappearances. As soon as someone begins to disappear, they will definitely search extensively and be able to draw a basic map; this suggests they have a way to avoid the Different Species Group, otherwise, with the kind of offensive that the small forest has, this dilapidated city would not last long.
In a matter of days, finding them is inevitable; it’s just a matter of time.
Having lost a companion, the mood among the members of the Holy Sword Society was very heavy, but going out also posed a risk, hence they could only stay in their rooms.
"Are you still going out?" Zhou Yuanzhu saw Xu Huo didn’t look like he was resting and couldn’t help asking.
Xu Huo nodded, "There’s still some business I haven’t done."
He didn’t plan to explain to the others and walked through the doorway that appeared in the center of the room.
He came to Miss Ma’s room again, Xu Huo sat down at the desk, took out a form and gave it to her, "Once you fill this out, you can be discharged."
Miss Ma glared at him hatefully, grabbed the form, quickly filled it out, and slammed it down on the table.
Xu Huo looked at the form and then said with a smile, "Congratulations, you can be discharged now. The nurse has already packed your clothes and belongings."
Qian Zi appeared at the door holding a suitcase, congratulated her with a smile, and added, "Your parents are already at the door."
Miss Ma’s expression froze for a moment, pointing to the handkerchief tied to the suitcase, which Xu Huo had given her before, "This isn’t mine."
"Consider it a recovery gift," said Xu Huo.
Guided by Qian Zi, Miss Ma went downstairs, passed by familiar faces of "patients" and "medical staff" on the first floor, completed the discharge formalities, and was led to the entrance where an elderly couple tearfully extended their hands towards her.
Miss Ma abruptly stopped, "No... it can’t be! My parents have long been dead!"
The elderly couple’s faces suddenly changed, involuntarily looking towards the nurse beside them, who then looked back at Miss Ma.
Reflexively, Miss Ma retracted her doubts and disbelief, and stiffly called out Mom and Dad.
Her parents took her suitcase and one of them held her hand as they walked out, babbling, "We’ve cleaned the room neatly, and bought many of the dishes and fruits you used to love..."
Miss Ma stiffly followed them into the car, left the hospital with them, went through the bustling streets, and returned to the once-familiar house.
Watching her busy parents, she picked up the fruit knife from the coffee table and rushed towards her mother’s back, "I don’t believe you are real!"
As her hand touched the massive flow of blood, amidst her mother’s cries of pain and her father’s shouts of anger, Miss Ma showed a slight smile of relief, and then she was taken back to the psychiatric hospital, seeing "Dr. Xu" again.
"You think creating fake parents will convince me?" Miss Ma defiantly looked at him, "You don’t know, but I killed my parents and flushed them down the drain!"
"Dr. Xu" looked at her with pity, "It seems regular treatment isn’t working for you, your condition has gotten more severe. I will hand you over to Director Kang."
Before Miss Ma could understand what that meant, over the "next two weeks" she experienced what brutal treatment meant: were restrained, electrocuted, subjected to head acupuncture, medicated to a point of replacing meals... The earlier life in the mental hospital which seemed like a caged beast now appeared so pleasant!
When she learned to be obedient and not resist, "Mr. Kang" finally nodded to let her go to a regular ward, and before leaving, he conducted a half-hour hypnotherapy session to help her forget the physical pain.
Those painful experiences seemed to turn into trivial sealed memories.
Back in the regular ward, Miss Ma saw Xu Huo again, this time she asked proactively: "Are you real?"
Xu Huo’s pen was still on the paper, but Miss Ma no longer had the impulse to lash out, her expression emotionless, she said: "The one surnamed Kang is a Cannibal Player, his two most trusted people, one named Wenzhang (Jiang Wenzhang), an white player, the other named Gong Jiaji, a Cannibal Player."
