Chapter 1061: No Escape
Chapter 1061: Chapter 1061: No Escape
Several members of the Holy Sword Society must have also released information or contacted other comrades to confirm which district this was, yet they were unable to receive any news, inevitably feeling somewhat irritable.
"If we hadn’t been trapped just now, at least a couple of us could have made it into the station," Zhou Yuanzhu spoke of the moment they were suddenly restrained before the space portal.
There was no doubt that it was the players from District 002 who acted, using a Space-Time Item to interfere with their actions, thereby preventing them from using the tickets.
But in reality, even without that split second, they might not have escaped the space portal; Xu Huo was proof of this. Mainly because the distance was too close, the sequence of events might seem long, but it actually took place in the span of a breath. Once pulled into a high-risk instance field, it’s considered as an automatic participation in the instance, and to exit, one would have to wait for the ticket channel to reopen.
High-risk instances were originally meant as a punishment for players who failed to complete instances on time. Clearly stated as a punishment, the difficulty level of the instance must be very high, and the lack of any information up till now further confirmed this point — most players who entered this high-risk instance in the past probably died.
"I thought Snow City was preparing to attack other districts, but I didn’t expect this prop to be used against the Holy Sword Society," Guan Shu regretfully said: "It’s likely not just us who were attacked."
The Holy Sword Society has quite a few people in District 002, as well as two fixed gathering points... The faces of Zhou Yuanzhu and the other three darkened, Ruan Qiyuan said: "I have already sent the message back through the reward platform. If the actions of District 002 are not that prompt, there might still be a chance to escape."
The others did not speak, knowing all too well that this possibility was too low. In the few minutes they took falling from the sky, they had missed the best opportunity, and District 002 was willing to sacrifice civilians in a building to force them into the high-risk instance... It’s likely that there wasn’t just one such space portal.
The people from the Holy Sword Society were worried about their own situation, as well as for their comrades still in Snow City.
Less than five minutes passed, some residents from District 002 returned, holding some food and blood-stained clothes in their arms, each silently crying — the gamified timing of District 002 continued, and basic measures like entering random instances or wild areas had all been learned.
While they were comforting each other, Guan Shu, who was sitting on the ground, suddenly stood up, "No good!"
Xu Huo, who also sensed the disturbances, quickly took out the shelter, sent the boys and babies into it, urged them not to open the door, and then stood in front of the shelter. After he drew the prop secant line, he held the sword in his hands and faced forward.
The first disturbance came from the crash site on the left. With the change in wind direction, a scent of fresh blood reached them before the screams did. What followed seemed like the switch of slaughter was flipped on; after the first person started screaming, the continuous piercing screams and cries never ceased.
More than thirty people went out, but only about ten returned just now, leaving twenty fairly scattered, some closer to Xu Huo and some farther. Xu Huo could sense these people desperately sprinting toward them — but even without looking, he could judge from the position of the screams that whatever was slaughtering living beings was rushing toward them!
Simply by dispersing his psychic power, the moment Vertical Pupil opened, Xu Huo faced directly into a pair of blood-red beast eyes. It leaped into the air, bit through the Vertical Pupil, and caught two young men running in front; its wolf-like form wasn’t very large but its teeth were sharp. The Mutant Beast snapped the neck bone of one of them from behind, shook its teeth, and the head of the bitten person flew off, then the beast started crazily gnawing, chewing, and swallowing over the corpse!
Several other Mutant Beasts quickly pounced as well, frantically fighting over the prey.
But these weren’t all the Mutant Beasts, not even the vanguard. From the gloomy grove emerged pairs of red eyes, advancing wave after wave like a surging tide, instantly washing through the woods!
Those who couldn’t outrun became their prey. Not to mention flesh and blood, the passing Mutant Beasts even fought over the gnawed bones to consume!
Twenty or so people clearly weren’t enough to fill the bellies of these hungry wolves, they swarmed like black spirits, quickly surrounding Xu Huo and the others!
The first Mutant Beast pounced on a middle-aged man running towards Guan Shu, chewed off half of his head in front of everyone, blood and brain matter burst out, the red and white mess assaulting everyone’s eyes, and the crowd which had panicked from the first scream was now letting out continuous cries, pushing desperately into the prop establishment brought out by Guan Shu!
Guan Shu’s prop was a bar, unlike the "Sole Entrance" Xu Huo had, which could not see the building’s exterior but only a door, this real bar was placed in the grove, measuring about two hundred or more square meters. When it appeared, it didn’t encroach on the shelter’s area but still crushed many trees, causing the bar’s bottom to be uneven.
A Sword Qi Barrier swept through the woods, slicing the man-tearing Mutant Beast into two halves, but in the next second, two, four, ten Mutant Beasts appeared, quickly surrounding the shelter and the bar, and those in front of the shelter, along with a few other District 002 people who hadn’t entered the bar, became targets.
The Mutant Beasts let out excited cries and rushed straight at them!
Two people who were crowded outside the door were inevitably dragged away, Zhou Yuanzhu left a small crack in the door, shouting to Xu Huo: "Come over quickly!"
However, Xu Huo acted as if he heard nothing, not even glancing that way, focusing entirely on killing the approaching Mutant Beasts.
Seeing Xu Huo refusing to enter the bar, and with even more Mutant Beasts gathering outside, Zhou Yuanzhu reluctantly closed the door.
The bar’s windows had been blocked, followed by sounds of pushing against the door.
Xu Huo not going to the bar wasn’t because he thought Guan Shu and the others had other ulterior motives, but purely because he didn’t think the bar was safe enough; the target was too large. Perhaps a two to three hundred square meter building seemed sturdy, but the Mutant Beasts weren’t just this pack of hungry wolves, at the edge of his psychic power a larger horde of Mutant Beasts had appeared — this was likely a chain reaction caused by the earlier crash, meaning, they not only had no escape but were also facing several waves of Mutant Beast attacks!
Outside the spiritual world, he couldn’t see, but from the density of the surrounding Mutant Beasts, their speed, and the seemingly endless numbers, he could guess what the situation was outside — this was a district occupied by Mutant Beasts. Not to mention finding a safe place to hide, it wasn’t even clear if there was any Alien-trodden land on this piece of earth.
