Chapter 1048: Rumors Can Be Believed

Chapter 1048: Chapter 1048: Rumors Can Be Believed

"How would I know that?" the shooting player quickly replied, "I’ve only heard rumors about it, that they transport a batch of living humans from time to time... you know what I mean."

"But it’s just hearsay, never seen anything concrete. If it’s like this bunch in front of us, what’s there to research? Wouldn’t it be quicker to just grab a bunch of Aliens?"

"Maybe they’re defective products," his companion said. "It’s just not clear why they would be released here. Isn’t it better for such critical matters as living human experiments to be more concealed?"

"That’s for sure... But our government is supreme, and nobody interferes with what it wants to do." The shooter said. "Have you heard? The new government annex is specifically in charge of these matters!"

His companion turned to look at him, "What annex? The government is building an annex?"

The shooter gave him a steady look before smiling and said, "You’re out of the loop. Anyway, I’ve heard there’s an annex in the planning."

After saying this, he closed his mouth.

His companion, who was Xu Huo, shook his head regretfully, realizing that he couldn’t get anything more out of him. Watching the other party secretly using a Prop, he said, "You’re well-informed, do you know where the Living Human Laboratory is built?"

After finding his Prop useless, the shooter tried to appear calm and said, "That’s something only the higher-ups in the government would know. Our squadron leader has connections, he surely knows more than I do."

Xu Huo nodded, "But it’s too late to ask him now, tell me, and telling the truth may earn you a chance to live."

The shooter gave a forced smile, "Buddy, what do you mean..."

Xu Huo patted his shoulder, "Take a look at your left hand."

The shooter looked down and discovered that his left hand had turned black without him realizing when it happened. He clenched his teeth and tore off his sleeve, only to see the black pattern had spread from his arm to his shoulder and was about to cover his chest!

"You despicable trickster, you poisoned me!" he cursed.

Xu Huo glanced at the movements in two other locations before saying, "You have ten seconds."

He didn’t start a countdown but glanced at his watch silently and waited for an answer.

At the ten-second mark, the "Eye of the Deceased" was pressed against the shooter’s neck. There was no intention of giving him a chance to stall for time and wait for his companions.

"Wait!" the shooter hurriedly called out, "I’ll talk! I’ll talk!"

"It’s in the newly built..." Before he could finish, the sword’s edge had sliced his neck, and in the next second, it seemed ready to sever his windpipe. The shooter didn’t beg for mercy but instead looked at Xu Huo with fierce eyes, which quickly turned to shock and uncertainty, "Is this an instance?"

"The tickets are useless?" Xu Huo gave a smile, "This is your last chance."

This time without the need for threats, the shooter quickly spilled the truth, "There should be a laboratory near the government building. Someone once saw a person screaming and fleeing from a government stop in the middle of the night, their lunacy resembling the zombies outside. But the Player who mentioned this later changed their story, claiming it was a joke made up out of boredom."

"But the Players in the government building all know it’s true, as others have heard screams as well!"

"Only one person has seen it?" Xu Huo raised an eyebrow.

"The others haven’t seen it, but they all heard the screams," the shooter said hastily: "Not just screams of agony, but also ones that sound like animal howls. Those who’ve heard it say, it doesn’t sound like a sane person but more like an Alien!"

"So, for a while, there were rumors that the government building was conducting living body experiments on Aliens, but later it got controlled."

Xu Huo looked at him steadily for two seconds before asking, "Has anyone else heard these kinds of sounds since then?"

The shooter’s face changed, the sounds were audible at first, but then they all disappeared. This implied the government building might have moved the location. Where to search now?

"Wait, wait!" He sweat on his forehead, his face growing darker possibly due to the poison, and after a glance, he said, "Personnel transfer! There was a major staff movement in the government building for a while. Some were transferred, and a few said to be marginalized were sent to an energy plant!"

"Yes! The New Xiangyang Energy Plant! Not far from the government building!"

"Are you sure?" Xu Huo asked again.

"It should be right. They said they were marginalized, but I’ve seen among them two people dining with the upper echelons of the government building. How could they be marginalized with that kind of connection!" The shooter tried desperately to convince Xu Huo to save his life.

Xu Huo nodded in satisfaction, putting away the Prop: "You may go now."

The shooter couldn’t believe his luck, giving Xu Huo a dubious look before he tentatively stood up, stumbled, then steadied himself against the wall. Seeing Xu Huo’s amused gaze, he no longer hesitated and quickly made his way upstairs.

As soon as he reached the next floor, he bumped into Zheng Cheng and another person. He approached them with joy, but before he could speak, Zheng Cheng shot him through the forehead!

Indifferently glancing at the body on the ground, Xu Huo ignored Zheng Cheng and stepped out of the residential building to find Chi Minghong who was still hiding, "We have a location, the New Xiangyang Energy Plant."

Chi Minghong wasn’t surprised that Xu Huo had escaped, "But with so many people around, how do we get out?"

"I have a way." Xu Huo’s Spiritual World could cover the two nearby buildings; the people outside had reduced their encirclement, so walking out from the edge of this building should allow them to escape smoothly.

Without hesitation, Chi Minghong followed him into the residential building, seeing the empty corridors, she said, "I saw quite a number of people enter earlier, why’s there no one now?"

"They might have gotten lost," Xu Huo didn’t care about killing a few Players; his intention was only to delay the searchers. Getting a precise address was an unexpected bonus.

As soon as the two left the residential building, the place became noisy again. The Players who had been surrounding the building scattered to chase after them. Chi Minghong took the opportunity to steal a low-flying motorcycle, boarded it with Xu Huo, and fled.

"Get as far as we can if we get blocked later, you’ll have to pull that move from earlier!" she shouted against the wind.

Xu Huo paused, "You seem pretty confident."

"People need to be bold, worst comes to worst, we die, but we’re not that easy to kill!" As Chi Minghong spoke, she went from initially clumsy bike control to ease, leaping into the air, using a Prop to jump onto a building, taking routes such as balconies and platforms where it seemed more likely to crash.

As she had hoped, government Players from both sides pursued, avoiding the automatic bike lockers flying from behind, Chi Minghong lifted the front of the bike, "I’m taking us to the rooftop!"

Xu Huo deflected several Prop attacks, expressionless, "If we keep playing around, we’ll have to shamefully hide in the station."
