Chapter 1018: You Know Too Much

Chapter 1018: Chapter 1018: You Know Too Much

Xu Huo reluctantly accepted the three props before letting him leave.

On his way out, the man looked uncertain, constantly looking back in caution.

Xu Huo waved his hand, indicating that he should leave more decisively, and only then did the male Player climb out the window.

Once he had left, Xu Huo returned to his desk to look at the note on it.

The information about the instance wasn’t worth mentioning. The inside news of District 002 was what was truly surprising.

In theory, Snow City’s purchase of a large-scale spatial portal device should be top-secret; such news shouldn’t have leaked, especially not to an outsider Player here for an instance, unless someone did it deliberately.

People from Snow City definitely wouldn’t act this way; there’s no benefit for Snow City at all, so someone must have caught wind of this intelligence and wanted to take action while Snow City redeployed their Players. To maximize their own interests, they intentionally spread the news to involve other Players.

In fact, upon hearing this news, it was hard to imagine any Player not being tempted. Even minor disturbances could cause Snow City enough of a headache.

Of course, this wasn’t the most important thing. What mattered most was whether the part about infiltrating the new district was true.

Just then, Xu Huo sensed some movement upstairs. He opened the door and headed into the corridor, piercing through the floor with a Sword leap and cornering Teacher Fan and Miss Ding, who were in the midst of a fight, inside the room.

Teacher Fan, seeing him, expressed relief, "Mr. Xu, come quickly, help me! Miss Ding is trying to kill me. She must have gotten..."

Before he could finish, Miss Ding struck him, sending him crashing against the wall. Teacher Fan spat out blood and seemed unsteady on his feet, looking unable to avoid Miss Ding’s second strike. But just then, Xu Huo dashed in front of him, raising his Sword to fend off Miss Ding.

Miss Ding’s expression turned cold, while Teacher Fan, coughing behind Xu Huo, began to express his thanks. However, before he could finish, the Eye of the Deceased was held to his neck, and then Teacher Fan saw the usually quiet man, who barely spoke since entering the instance, watching him with a sharp gaze and speaking with an exposed edge, "Hand over the note."

Teacher Fan was startled, "What note... No, it’s Miss Ding who suddenly attacked me..."

"The fourth note hasn’t shown up yet. It was you who killed last night. Are you going to hand it over voluntarily, or shall I take it by force?" Xu Huo cut him off.

With such a commotion during his entrance, it was impossible not to alert the other Players. Now everyone, including the male Player who had just attacked him, had arrived. Hearing the familiar speech, the man’s face showed a flash of agony before saying, "The first murderer was you. I saw bloodstains leading to your room—if it wasn’t you, then who?"

Teacher Fan wasn’t looking so pale anymore and stopped coughing, frantically saying, "What bloodstains? I don’t know anything!"

"Why talk so much!" Miss Ding, holding a Short Sword, stepped forward. "Just kill him and it will all be clear. If he’s the first person who got the note, it must be on him now."

"Why are you all saying such things!" Teacher Fan shouted. "Why are you framing someone without any proof!"

"Because we’ve got the muscle," sneered Miss Ding. "Do you see a second person standing up for you?"

Not to mention others, even the Player with lip piercings who was known for arguing didn’t make a sound—note or no note, who cares if a murder is indeed a murder?

"What’s going on?" Chi Minghong came over to ask.

"He must be the first one to have gotten the note. The female Player who died this morning was the second. But he was killed, so the note might be with someone else. The third person to get the note is him." Xu Huo pointed at the male Player who attacked him.

The male Player was suddenly singled out, but unable to retort, he could only begrudgingly accept the accusation.

Everyone saw his Jinxed Appearance and knew he’d tried to commit murder only to end up being rubbed into the ground.

"No way, how did the plot develop so fast?" The bespectacled man was in disbelief. "I feel like I’m still watching the first episode; why are you all at the climax already?"

Most of the Players present maintained their composure; in reality, they also only had suspicions about who killed the short-haired female Player the night before.

"Mr. Xu truly keeps his true skills hidden." The muscular man said with a smile, then took out a set of needles, addressing Teacher Fan, "Stop wasting everyone’s time. You can’t escape from the instance, and I have special props for interrogation here that guarantee you’ll consciously feel every ounce of pain."

Teacher Fan’s expression was Capricious, but he finally shed his honest appearance, taking out a note gloomily.

The note was the same as the one Xu Huo had, with a drawn pattern and marked with the number "3."

After handing over Teacher Fan to Miss Ding, Xu Huo placed the two notes on the table.

"This 3 and the 13 are just the sequence numbers," Chi Minghong said. "Was the female Player who died last night the third to arrive?"

She was the fifth; the order of the first four was unclear.

"She was the third," asserted the Player from District 002. "I was the first to arrive."

"I’m second," said the Player with lip piercings.

The fourth was the man with facial spots, the fifth Chi Minghong, the sixth was the long-haired female Player who died that morning, the seventh the muscular man, the eighth was Teacher Fan, the ninth was the Player with a hat, the tenth was the male Player who attacked Xu Huo, the eleventh Miss Ding, the twelfth was Zhou Yuanzhu, who arrived later than Xu Huo but entered the hall first, and fourteenth was the bespectacled man who arrived last.

All the arrivals were then accounted for.

"Then, it’s possible that the second note has the number six on it," Zhou Yuanzhu said, looking towards Xu Huo.

"She came to ask me about the order of arrival this morning," Chi Minghong explained, pointing to the Player with lip piercings and the Player from District 002.

The Player with lip piercings darkened in expression, "Are you saying the second note is with me?"

"Not necessarily," Chi Minghong was not the least bit angry. "She only inquired about the order in which you arrived; maybe she wanted to figure out someone else’s order."

"Anyway, the order of those who arrived later is clear to her; she only doesn’t know the first five." She stated preemptively, "She definitely knew my number, or else she wouldn’t have come to probe me."

That left four possible targets.

"He can be ruled out," Xu Huo pointed to the man who attacked him.

"Why exclude him?" Miss Ding pressed. "Whether he’s the target or not, he could have gotten two notes in a row."

Xu Huo offered a simple yet persuasive reason, "He lacks the strength."

"Furthermore," he surveyed the crowd, his gaze landing on the Player with a hat, "The second note was obtained by the long-haired female Player, but the person who killed her doesn’t necessarily have to be her target... The one who dealt with the body in the second step was you; have you found any clues?"

The hat-wearing Player’s expression flickered but quickly returned to normal, showing suspicion in his gaze, "Don’t you think you know too much?"

Xu Huo tapped the notes on the table, "I’m just accelerating the instance’s progression. Since everyone has something to gain, there’s no need to waste time, right?"

Hurrying the instance’s progression? Your revelations and incitements hardly look like benefiting both others and yourself!
