Chapter 1015: Charm of the Narrator
Chapter 1015: Chapter 1015: Charm of the Narrator
The female player thought for a moment, "Maybe everyone has different hobbies, I occasionally cook to relieve stress."
She indeed had good cooking skills, and quickly prepared several dishes. The three of them were ready to start eating in Doctor Zhang’s room when Zhou Yuanzhu, attracted by the smell, walked in and contributed a freshly made cold dish, then sat down to eat with them.
Chi Minghong and Zhou Yuanzhu were both quite talkative, and their conversation revolved around trivial matters, so the meal was relatively harmonious.
During this time, Teacher Fan and a man with glasses passed by outside the door, but no other players showed up.
"Now it’s daytime in District 002, there shouldn’t be any incidents." After the meal, the long-haired female player said, "I didn’t sleep well last night, I need to catch up on some sleep now."
This was a normal thing to do, Chi Minghong and Zhou Yuanzhu also returned to their respective rooms to sleep.
Xu Huo closed the door and rested for two hours. When he woke up, he found that another person had died in the villa.
He included the entire villa within his Spiritual World and controlled Vertical Pupil to patrol the second floor. Soon, he found the body of the long-haired female player in a room marked with a bloody circle, and the hat-wearing player was squatting beside her, scrutinizing the scene.
The female player had several combat wounds on her body. The fatal one seemed to be a piercing chest wound inflicted by a sharp tool, unlike last night’s deceased who wasn’t mutilated; it also appeared that the killer was not the person squatting in front of the body.
The room’s door was shut, indicating that the hat-wearing player didn’t call for others immediately upon finding the body dead.
He first examined the body, then observed the remnants of a struggle in the room before returning to the body. Using the blood beneath it, he drew a circle around the female player, and placed her hands crossed over her chest in a vague posture before leaving the room.
There were only blood traces of the long-haired female player in the room, and it appeared that her killer was probably uninjured. There was also no clear indication from the prop traces.
This seemed to be another silent deadly fight.
People were approaching outside the door, and Xu Huo didn’t linger long. He had just withdrawn his Psychic Power when he heard shouting from upstairs.
He, along with Chi Minghong and Zhou Yuanzhu, hurried upstairs, following the others into the room.
"Another death," Chi Minghong frowned, "aren’t the notes supposed to appear only after midnight?"
"Could someone be exploiting the chaos?" Teacher Fan suggested.
"It’s unlikely," the muscular man said gravely, "If it was a personal grudge between players, there’s no need to purposely choose this room. If it was a sudden attack, it should have occurred in her or the attacker’s room. Look at all these marks, it indicates the fight happened right here."
"Isn’t luring someone out easy?" Miss Ding scoffed lightly, "Don’t forget this was a woman, enticing a few men isn’t a difficult task."
"Everyone knows there’s something off with this room, I think no one would be foolish enough to fall for it voluntarily," Xu Huo said.
"You’re the only one who believes in sacrifices," Miss Ding rolled her eyes and paused before adding, "But luring someone out is one thing, whether there’s a note is another matter."
"Last night we were all misled. The instance background that mentioned ’notes appearing after midnight, only one each time’ shouldn’t be taken to mean they appear only after midnight every night. Instead, it means notes started appearing after last night’s midnight. Although only one at a time, their timing isn’t fixed."
She glanced at the muscular man, "So I believe in the past three hours, a second note appeared."
"From this perspective, the content on the note isn’t hard to guess," the man with glasses said. "It must involve killing someone and arranging the body in a sacrificial manner."
There was silence. If each note was similar, and given the instance name, it’s likely that half of the players would die in the first round—this is a life-or-death battle, no one would stop without a result. But this doesn’t ensure the safety of the remaining half; surely, more notes would appear.
"The requirement for clearing the instance is finding a note, it doesn’t say we have to follow it exactly, right?" Teacher Fan whispered, "Doesn’t necessarily mean we have to kill, does it?"
"What if we can’t clear the instance?" Miss Ding countered, who would want to walk away empty-handed?
That was indeed the logic.
Everyone looked at one another with varied expressions, subtly sizing up those around them.
Twelve people, still quite a number. Besides the notes, they could actively reduce the number of participants.
Xu Huo could tell that the lip-pierced player and a few others like Miss Ding were getting restless. He preemptively spoke up, activating his characteristic "Charm of the Narrator": "Everyone, listen to me."
The eleven people present instinctively turned towards him.
"I don’t think it’s only those who didn’t get a note that are dying," he cleared his throat and continued, "Suppose the note’s directive was for the holder to kill a player and then hold a ceremony. If the attacked player counter-kills the holder, does this fulfill the note’s requirement or count as clearing the instance?"
"With unclear rules, probably no one is sure," he added.
"Moreover, killing someone and deliberately arranging the body in a strange form must be related to solving the instance. We need to clarify this point before anything else; we’re all here to clear the instance, and naturally, the higher the grade the better. This instance doesn’t seem very difficult. If we can’t improve the grade and level up, wouldn’t progressing be indefinitely stalled?"
Instance clearance grade affects player promotions; the better the quality of clearing, the fewer instances needed for upgrading, including corresponding upgrade permissions. Faster upgrading players also receive better and more rewards, which are lifesaving in the game.
Others seemed persuaded by his argument, no longer showing their previously tense and confrontational stance. The lip-pierced player suggested, "Let’s just keep our doors open from now on, this way everyone can see each other’s movements. Instead of secretive actions draining us, let’s clear things up on the third note!"
"I have no objections," the muscular man nodded.
This was currently the best method.
"At night everyone should return to their rooms, and during the day we’ll act together," Chi Minghong suggested, "Although the instance doesn’t mandate staying in rooms at night, being cautious to avoid breaking rules is better. It’s best if no one leaves their room at night."
"What if a note appears at night?" the man with glasses asked.
"It appears if it appears, it won’t vanish..." Chi Minghong paused, "And even if it vanishes, there will surely be another. With only two people performing the ceremony, if we don’t look for the note, the note will surely come looking for us."
That really made sense.
"Then let’s agree on that," the lip-pierced player looked around at everyone, "Since we’ve agreed in advance, I hope everyone will consciously adhere to it. If anyone stabs us in the back... hmph!"
