It's Your Turn To Cry and Beg, Dear Uncle
Chapter 64: Retribution (1)

Chapter 64: Retribution (1)

Mansion Wisteria, 9 a.m.

The sun shone brightly, casting a dazzling light, yet the air remained crisp and cold. Morning dew clung to the leaf tips, dripping slowly and dying the trees and wild grass a fresh vibrancy, while the soil beneath appeared darker and damper than usual.

A similar stillness enveloped the third-floor bedroom near the master suite, where the sole heir of the Synders family resided. With blackout curtains expertly designed to block out sunlight, the room—an elegant blend of soft brown and white hues—remained shrouded in darkness, as though night still lingered within its secluded walls.

Kyra, lying on the king-sized bed, pulled the bedcover over her head. She buried herself entirely in the warmth of the blanket. Her eyes remained shut, showing no sign of waking up even though the day had already turned to morning.

Perhaps because her body was still recovering, and she had no plans for the day, Kyra allowed herself to relax completely and eventually continued sleeping until midday.

At exactly 12:00 p.m., her once-silent phone sprang to life, vibrating abruptly. Its glowing screen cut through the dense darkness of the room. Initially, it vibrated once, then again moments later, and soon it continued without pause.

It seemed the first message managed to spark a flurry of activity in the group chat.

[Hey, did you guys hear about Jack Wilson?]

Five minutes later, several members appeared with typing signs next to their profile pictures.

[What happened? I just woke up...]

[I heard about it!]

[What happened? I just woke up...] - [Are you a pig, Hans? LOL]

[I heard too! Crazy, but don’t you think this is all a bit sudden?]

[Out of nowhere, Jack Wilson is suddenly reported to have thrown an orgy party with drugs.]

[Isn’t that typical? We all know what kind of person Jack Wilson was back in college. What’s got me suspicious is the report about his dad being involved in billions of tax evasion.]

[As far as I know, even though Jack Wilson is a jerk, his father and older brother are known to be decent people.]

[Hahaha... If they’re really decent, there’s no way evidence of tax evasion would surface, right?]

[I agree! It’s odd. With someone like Jack Wilson, who’s clearly an addict, where did he get that much money? And why has only this one case come to light?]

[In the end, no rich person is completely clean.]

[....]

[...]

The conversation didn’t die down; instead, it became increasingly heated!

Kyra, who had initially ignored it and covered her ears with a pillow, eventually grew annoyed. She threw off her blanket and grabbed her phone.

"Seriously! What could be so exciting that they’re disturbing someone’s sleep?!" Kyra grumbled. At this moment, she desperately needed rest and peace—something she hadn’t gotten during her previous stay in the hospital.

With a disgruntled face, she unlocked her phone, but her eyes widened the moment she read the messages in her college alumni group chat. Her brows furrowed, and she reread the messages twice before opening her browser to search for more information herself.

Although the Wilson family wasn’t particularly well-connected or wealthy among the upper-class circles, Jack Wilson was quite famous due to his position as the CEO of a well-known modeling agency. However, the agency wasn’t famous for its beautiful models but for allegedly serving as Jack’s private brothel.

While people outside the entertainment industry might not know this, it was common knowledge among those within the field. Yet, despite this, many still applied to the agency in pursuit of wealth and opportunity.

So, When Jack’s scandal broke, few were surprised. Yet questions lingered, particularly given the reputable standing of his father and brother, as well as his mother’s active involvement in charity work.

It baffled many how Jack, despite his personal fortune, managed to sustain expensive drug habits, silence those who could expose him, and bury scandals—all while keeping his company from collapsing.

[The answer is obvious, isn’t it?]

The gossip in the alumni group chat continued unabated. Everyone was busy sharing their own theories.

[If not his father, then who else? Jack is the least intelligent person you’ll ever meet.]

[All he knows is how to party.]

[His reputation on campus was already terrible. So many freshmen fell into his traps.]

[And the worst part is, that bastard Jack was so full of himself and couldn’t take rejection.]

[Ah, I remember! Anyone who rejected him would pay for it the next day.]

[Call me cruel! But I’m glad that jerk finally got his karma! I remember how he wouldn’t hesitate to harass or even force the women he desired. Who did he think he was?!]

[Exactly. There was only one person who managed to escape his clutches back then.]

[Ah... I know.]

[I saw it happen too. Even though it’s been a long time, I still remember.]

[Kyra, right?]

Kyra tightened her grip on the phone. Reading the string of messages in the group chat made her stomach churn, but at the same time, her heart raced with satisfaction.

It felt cruel, but she couldn’t stop herself from being pleased at the downfall of that wretched man, especially after reading the gossip in the alumni chat. Everyone knew about that incident, but fortunately, they believed Jack wouldn’t dare act against her because, no matter what, she was under the protection of Synders name.

Now, she only wanted to talk to James. She didn’t need to guess or search for clues as she already knew who was behind Wilson’s misery. That man always kept his word. He had promised to make everyone involved in the past pay at least twice over.

Noticing the time had already passed noon, Kyra realized James was probably working, so she decided to call him instead. Her heart pounded, and her cheeks flushed as her fingers dialed James’s number.

A wave of happiness bloomed inside her. In the past, James had defended her, protected her from every trouble, but it had all stopped at a certain point. Perhaps that was when James had been aware of her unspoken feelings. Not long after, he started protecting another woman in front of her.

Maybe because of everything that had happened, Kyra felt deeply touched by what James had done for her. Moreover, it wasn’t as her uncle but as her lover now. A faint smile crept onto her lips.

As the dialing tone echoed in her ear, Kyra inexplicably grew even more nervous. It didn’t take long before James answered. His deep, masculine voice resonated through the phone, utterly captivating.

"Kyra?"

He had only said her name, just like he always did, but for some reason, it felt different today. Her name sounded foreign and special, leaving her speechless.

James raised an eyebrow when he didn’t hear a response from Kyra. He even checked to see if the call was still connected. Then, a soft chuckle escaped his lips.

"Did my little princess accidentally hit the call button in her sleep?" James asked, his voice laced with a soft chuckle.

Thump, thump, thump...

Kyra felt as though her heart was about to explode just hearing his teasing, captivating laughter. She’d never heard a laugh so enchanting that it sent shivers down her spine. And the way he called her "little princess" only made her feel even more flustered.

"N-No..." Kyra stammered, completely at a loss for words. Embarrassed, she cleared her throat. "I just woke up..."

Before she could continue, James interrupted, playfully teasing her again, "And you missed me?"

Kyra ended up punching her pillow in frustration to calm her racing heart. "Be serious, James. You know why I called you!"

"So, you didn’t miss me?" James asked again, his voice feigning sadness, laced with a hint of mischief. Kyra bit her lip, and once more, her pillow bore the brunt of her flustered emotions.

Her cheeks flushed deeply as she basked in her own little moment of happiness, a stark contrast to the turmoil of Jack’s scandal and the misery it brought.

Waving her hand in surrender, Kyra relented, "F-Fine... I missed you. Happy now? So, can we talk about it?"

James smiled, holding back his laughter. His girlfriend was simply too adorable, and he couldn’t resist teasing her. "What’s there to talk about? Isn’t everything already clear in the news?"

Kyra frowned, her eyebrows knitting together. "I know, but... is it all true?"

Deep down, she harbored a sliver of doubt. Could this be one of James’s schemes to exact his revenge?

Her anger was aimed solely at Jack, not his family. She had no desire to involve innocent people, even though she suspected Jack might have sought his father’s help. Still, Kyra believed the Wilsons wouldn’t dare challenge the Synders.

"Are you doubting me?" James asked, his voice revealing nothing of his emotions. Yet, Kyra felt a sharp pang of guilt for questioning her boyfriend’s trustworthiness. Still, she didn’t want to lie or keep her doubts hidden any longer.

"Can I be honest? Just a little," she admitted.

James smiled. Instead of feeling offended, he felt a sense of relief knowing that Kyra was starting to open up to him. "No. It’s true that I reported them, but all the evidence is legitimate. Don’t worry, love—I still have a conscience."

However, James’s subordinates, who were in the same room with him at the time, felt a chill run down their spines when they heard his final words. Conscience? Don’t make us laugh. Their eyes shifted toward James’ hand, which was adorned with brass knuckles, blood dripping steadily from the metal edges. Then, in that moment, a loud crash of a chair echoed through the room, startling Kyra on the other end of the line.

"What was that sound?"

James immediately shot a deadly glare at his subordinates. All of them lowered their heads, clutching tightly onto the chairs in front of them as if holding on to the only lifeline they had.

"Nothing, darling," James replied calmly, a stark contrast to the dark, menacing expression on his face, resembling a demon sizing up its prey.

James smiled. "Yes, I’ll be home for dinner. See you later."

The call ended, and James slipped his phone back into his pocket. The moment he looked up, the sweet smile he had given Kyra vanished entirely. His footsteps echoed like a death knell toward the bloodied figure tied to a chair in front of him.

The man’s mouth, taped shut, could only produce muffled cries. His entire body trembled as James loomed over him, staring down with cold, piercing eyes.

Jack shook his head frantically, but in the next second, the sound of a heavy punch reverberated through the basement.
