It's Your Turn To Cry and Beg, Dear Uncle
Chapter 39: Morning Delight

Chapter 39: Morning Delight

The morning light pierced through the glass window of the VIP room, landing on the body of a young woman who was still drifting in her dream. Unlike the previous morning when Kyra greeted the sun in gloominess, today she remained peacefully asleep under the warmth of the sun.

However, as the sun rose higher and higher, the heat eventually drew Kyra’s eyebrows together in annoyance. Her eyelids slowly fluttered open and her blue eyes captured the bright morning with a confused gaze.

For a moment, she was still in a daze before she slowly gathered her thoughts and looked around the room. She also tried to move her body a little bit. It was slightly uncomfortable with all the sweat from her fever.

The good news was that her fever had subsided since last night. The fatigue and nauseating dizziness were gone, leaving her body feeling significantly better, lighter and more refreshed. Sitting up was now effortless.

While sitting, Kyra once again observed her surroundings. Everything was just as it had been yesterday when Grandpa Creighton and Grandma Jane visited her. She turned her head toward the bedside table, where her eyes landed on a neatly wrapped plastic container of fruits. Seeing this, Kyra nodded.

So it wasn’t a dream, she thought.

She began to reflect, trying to piece together her memories from two days ago. Her head felt cluttered with fragmented and disorganized memories, making it difficult for her to recall the events of the previous day.

The only thing she vividly remembered was when Creighton, Jane, and Oliver came to visit her. How they called the doctor, who diagnosed her with a fever. She also clearly remembered her conversation with Oliver, his comforting embrace, and her tears...

Kyra instinctively touched one of her eyes with her hand that wasn’t attached to the IV. She remembered crying and couldn’t help but pursed her lips. So, now Oliver knew her ugly side. The incident with Lila had been completely exposed.

Kyra frowned, wondering what would happen now?

Over the past two days, Kyra hadn’t been fully conscious. The medication often left her drowsy, its side effects slowing her thoughts. Combined with the accumulated stress and mental strain, her condition had worsened.

But now, after a full rest and with a strangely calm heart, her mind was operating at full capacity. Naturally, the first thing she did was to try and recall everything that had happened. And remembering her talk with James, she immediately reached for her phone to check all her social media accounts.

She had expected to see her name in the headlines of gossip articles, but oddly, she found nothing. Not only her name, but there wasn’t even a mention of any incident at the famous restaurant, as if nothing had happened that day.

Kyra kept scrolling through her social media feed, but no matter how long she searched, the result remained the same—nothing.

She lowered her phone in confusion. Didn’t James already know that Lila wasn’t at fault and that she had fabricated the incident?

If it were Oliver, her ever-loyal brother, she understood why he wouldn’t spill the beans, but James was a different story. Wasn’t he constantly defending his girlfriend? He had stormed out that very night, so Kyra assumed she’d be facing a fresh scandal this morning.

But what happened? What had she missed?

Kyra furrowed her brows, deep in thought. Unfortunately, she had to stop dwelling on the problem as soon as a gentle knock came from her door. Startled, she snapped out of her daze and immediately responded.

"Come in!"

Her reply surprised the elderly couple standing outside. Jane and Creighton hadn’t expected an answer, assuming Kyra was still asleep. So, upon hearing her, they enthusiastically entered the room, especially Jane, who was visibly thrilled.

"My dear!" The old woman lost all semblance of grace, rushing toward Kyra, who was now sitting upright. Without hesitation, she embraced her granddaughter tightly.

"How are you feeling? You suffered from such a terrible fever yesterday that you couldn’t even get up," Jane said worriedly, her hands immediately moving to check Kyra’s temperature. "Oh! It seems the medicine worked well. Your fever is gone, and you’re not as pale as you were yesterday!"

The elderly woman was genuinely overjoyed. Seeing her beloved grandchild looking much better lifted a heavy weight off her heart. Watching Kyra so weak before had left Jane deeply concerned, making it hard for her to sleep. That was why she had woken up early today to prepare a sumptuous meal to bring to the hospital.

A warm smile spread across Kyra’s face. She, too, felt happy seeing Jane’s beaming expression. "Good morning, Grandma. I feel much better today. I don’t feel dizzy or nauseous anymore, and my body feels lighter. Although my legs still ache occasionally, it’s not too bad."

"That’s good to hear," Creighton chimed in, joining the conversation. He was genuinely relieved to see Kyra’s condition improving.

"Grandpa!" Kyra greeted him cheerfully, extending her arms to embrace the old man. Creighton gently patted her head with affection.

The two appeared like the picture of a harmonious family, oblivious to the fact that the loving grandfather she adored wouldn’t hesitate to destroy her to keep her away from James. It had only been two nights since the same mouth now speaking with concern had issued that very threat.

"Don’t you think it’s best for the doctor to examine you first before breakfast? Didn’t you say that your legs occasionally hurt?" Creighton suggested as he stroked Kyra’s head. His demeanor was utterly innocent, devoid of the cold and ruthless expression he had worn that night.

Kyra pouted and whined playfully, "Can’t I eat first, Grandpa? Your dear granddaughter is starving."

Creighton furrowed his brow and was about to object when his wife who was standing beside him smacked his arm. Jane shot him a disapproving look, her expression stern as she spoke in a warning tone.

"I hope you haven’t forgotten that your precious granddaughter last ate yesterday morning. She’s missed two meals, and now you want her to go straight to an examination. What if she faints?!"

Creighton immediately shrank under his wife’s glare. The one weakness of this stern and ruthless man was the woman standing before him. He couldn’t bear to see Jane angry, let alone in tears.

"I was just suggesting it because some tests might require the patient to have an empty stomach. Wouldn’t it be better to ask the doctor first?"

But Jane simply shot him a brief glance and said nothing. Instead, she focused on unpacking the lunchbox and drinks she had brought. It was clear the elderly woman intended to ignore her husband. Feeling slighted, Creighton sulked and gently wrapped an arm around his wife, attempting to coax her.

Watching the scene, Kyra felt amused and couldn’t help but laugh. In the end, she agreed to undergo the examination first. While they waited for the doctor, Jane arranged the food she had brought on the dining table so they could eat immediately afterward. Creighton, standing beside her, assisted while teasing his wife.

Kyra sat quietly, observing the harmonious atmosphere. Her lips pursed. It wasn’t as though she hadn’t thought about it before, but the fact remained, she had failed to guard her heart and had succumbed to her own feelings,

Yet, the worry over how James’s family would react never left her mind. They had been so kind to her, accepting her as part of their family. Everything she had was the best, and she could even say that she was more pampered than the Synders’ biological grandchildren.

And yet, here she was, harboring a passion that burned fiercely for James. Despite being raided by anger and hatred, her feelings remained steadfast, showing no signs of fading. She used to think it was just the spark of a first love and it would eventually die out, but it continued for three years.

Kyra glanced at the elderly couple and wondered, What if I’m the one who ends up ruining everything?

Sometimes it was easier to turn a blind eye on everything, but in the end, those problems would catch up eventually. A mix of guilt and anxiety filled Kyra’s heart.

On the other hand, one could only imagine how Kyra might react if she learned of Creighton’s ruthless side—how the kind grandfather she loved had no qualms about using her as leverage to threaten James. Would Kyra still feel this guilty and remorseful? Would she still see things the same way?

Not long after, the doctor arrived and began the examination. In the end, Kyra had to undergo several scans, which revealed a hairline fracture on her right shinbone. While not dangerous, it was concerning because the fracture was relatively long, running almost the length of her shin.

After finishing the examination and getting her bandages replaced, Kyra finally got to sit down and eat. By this point, she was famished and focused solely on finishing her meal.

"Ah..." Kyra sighed as she held her stomach. "I’m full. That was so delicious, Grandma!"

Jane smiled warmly as she packed up the empty lunchbox. "Unfortunately, your grandpa and I have an appointment with one of his old military friends. I’ll have the driver bring your lunch later in the afternoon."

"There’s no need if you’re busy, Grandma. The hospital food isn’t that bad!"

Jane chuckled softly and stroked Kyra’s head. "What are you saying? It’s no trouble at all! Now, get some rest. Grandpa and I are heading home."

The elderly couple kissed Kyra’s forehead before taking their leave. Once they were gone, Kyra laid on her bed once again. As she closed her eyes, a long exasperated sigh escaped her lips.

"Feeling bored?"

Kyra’s eyes flew open almost immediately, and she jolted upright. Her eyes widened when she saw James standing in her room. She had no idea when he had come in, but his sudden presence shattered her previously good mood.

"Don’t you know how to knock?" Kyra snapped, her brows furrowed in annoyance.

James raised an eyebrow as he walked towards her. And instead of answering, he asked back, "Why is your mood so bad this morning?"

His voice was gentle, and Kyra could even detect a hint of concern. But beyond that, his expression—sweetly smiling and filled with affection—was disarming.

His voice was gentle and Kyra could even hear a hint of concern, but more than that, the man was smiling so sweetly. His eyes were filled with affection.

Kyra blinked several times, wondering if she was imagining things. Yes, it had to be her imagination. She rubbed her eyes, but as soon as she looked up again to confirm, her lips were with a kiss.

Her entire body froze, and her mind short-circuited.

With one hand cupping the back of her head, James deepened the kiss. He chuckled softly against her lips when he noticed Kyra staring at him dumbfoundedly.

But, the man didn’t stop and proceeded to kiss her again, this time lightly biting Kyra’s lower lip. The young woman gasped in surprise, giving him the chance to entangle her tongue with his.

At first, his exploration was gentle, melting away Kyra’s resistance and initial shock. But as James continued to kiss, nibble, and suck on her lips, his actions grew increasingly aggressive, stealing every bit of Kyra’s breath.

Just as Kyra thought she might pass out, James finally broke the kiss. Both of them were left panting. A strand of saliva hung between their lips, a vivid testament to their shared passion.

A soft chuckle escaped from the man. His wet lips glistened, accentuating the teasing smirk that made him look irresistibly seductive.

"Good morning, little one," he whispered, his voice husky and thick with lingering desire.
