Chapter 92: Chapter 92: Money in Hand, Dividing the Spoils
Ruth Wilcox’s personal belongings were plentiful, taking nearly an hour to pack and resulting in nearly three large boxes of items.
Yusuf Zuck called Samuel Ross and Benedict Cooke to the upstairs, and then together they moved the three boxes to the car.
Ruth Wilcox knew she definitively had to return to headquarters to report, so this was also in preparation, and she didn’t want others to see her in a disheveled state.
Yusuf Zuck had signed his termination papers, and his salary had been settled by finance who had rushed over.
"What happened?" Samuel Ross didn’t ask Yusuf Zuck while upstairs, but as soon as they reached the parking lot, he immediately inquired, because Ms. Wilcox had actually packed up all her personal belongings; it was abnormal—as if she were resigning, wasn’t it?
"Ms. Wilcox might be relocated back to headquarters, and I’ve been fired," Yusuf Zuck said.
"What?" Hearing Yusuf Zuck’s words, Samuel Ross and Benedict Cooke were both greatly shocked.
"Why were you fired?" Benedict Cooke couldn’t help but ask.
"Heh, a little incident occurred, I resigned ahead of time, the firing was just Ms. Wilcox putting on a show for headquarters," Yusuf Zuck said with a laugh.
"If both you and Ms. Wilcox are gone, what will you do from now on?" Samuel Ross was wracked with headache—Yusuf Zuck had only had a few good days, so how come Ms. Wilcox had been transferred and Yusuf Zuck had been fired? What on earth had happened?
"Don’t worry about me; in fact, if it weren’t for Ms. Wilcox, I would have quit long ago. Now that Ms. Wilcox isn’t working here, why the hell should I? It’s even better now, I’m a free man, and I can carry out my plans to make a fortune!"
"What plans to make a fortune? Yusuf Zuck, you, me, and Cooke—are all brothers forged through adversity. If you’ve got a good business going, don’t leave us out."
Thinking it over, Yusuf Zuck said, "You guys keep working here for now, and when my business gets steady and really needs people, then you can come over and help me!"
"That’s not the right way to put it," Samuel Ross shook his head. "Helping you in the early stages of starting a business, and helping once the business is established—it’s different. How about Cooke and I resign too? We can help out with menial tasks and run errands as well."
"That works too, but let’s wait a few days for Ms. Wilcox to leave. I won’t be here these next few days, so in the meantime, you and Cooke keep an eye on Ms. Wilcox for me."
"Keep an eye on her for what?" Samuel Ross was startled.
"I don’t mean it that way," Yusuf Zuck said with a bitter smile. "I mean, protect her discreetly from the shadows. People from headquarters might target her, especially since Ms. Wilcox was attacked a few days ago. So, pay close attention, both overtly and covertly."
"Crap, you scared me. Don’t worry, every single security guard here, we all follow Ms. Wilcox’s orders above all else!"
"Okay, I’m leaving first. Keep a sharp eye out here, you and Cooke, and stay in touch via phone." Yusuf Zuck got into the Buick. Now that he’d resigned, the A8 was no longer his, but fortunately, he still had the Buick left behind by Fleur Carson, so he still had a means of transportation.
"Can you come out for a drink tonight?" Seeing Yusuf Zuck leaving, Samuel Ross was somewhat reluctant; Cooke also looked eagerly at him.
"We’ll talk about it tonight, we’ve got plenty of days ahead of us, brothers." Seeing the sincere feelings from Samuel Ross and Cooke, Yusuf Zuck was also comforted by a smile, grateful that these two brothers were so loyal; he hadn’t misjudged them.
However, just as Yusuf Zuck was about to accelerate away, suddenly, a white Range Rover swiftly drove into the parking lot, took a big turn within the lot, and braked to a stop.
"Bang—" As soon as the car stopped, the driver immediately jumped out and opened the rear door!
"It’s him!" Yusuf Zuck, Samuel Ross, and Cooke all recognized the driver—the same young giant who had come to Fengdu a few days earlier, towering like a mountain, muscular, and standing at the side of the woman in the qipao.
As the rear door swung open, off stepped the enchanting woman dressed in a qipao, glancing towards Samuel Ross and Benedict Cooke!
"It’s her!" Samuel Ross and Benedict Cooke both tensed up. A few days prior, this woman had arrived with dozens of off-road vehicles to deliver eight hundred thousand, but she demanded a receipt, so Yusuf Zuck did not agree, and it was clear this woman was no simple character, not to mention the young giant at her side, probably a top-tier fighter.
The lady in the cheongsam smiled as she approached Maxwell Ross and Benedict Cooke, with the little giant following behind, still carrying the briefcase.
Yusuf Zuck pulled out his car keys and climbed out of the car with a wicked smile. The lady in the cheongsam was here to deliver money again, but this time the entourage wasn’t as big as last time, and he wasn’t sure if he needed a receipt.
"Who is called Yusuf Zuck?" The lady in the cheongsam had an impression of the three men, and as she asked who Yusuf Zuck was, she also looked into Yusuf’s eyes.
"Do we need a receipt this time?" Yusuf smiled.
"No need, one million, count it." The cheongsam lady nodded slightly, and the little giant stepped forward with the briefcase, opening it to reveal the stacks of red bills inside.
"No need to count it, you may go," said Yusuf, also nodding slightly, signaling Marco to take the briefcase.
"Brother Dao has a message for you," the cheongsam lady said, looking at Yusuf, "He said that the previous incident was a misunderstanding, and it frightened your sister. Brother Dao will set a feast another day to apologize to Mr. Zuck."
"Oh, I got it." Yusuf squinted his eyes. Brother Dao’s words were ambiguous; you could take it as a genuine desire to apologize and a genuine misunderstanding. But it could also be taken as a warning, "Don’t get cocky, kid; we can still scare your sister."
Of course, Yusuf also knew that Brother Dao was at a disadvantage this time and would surely have subsequent moves waiting for him.
However, he wasn’t afraid. Dream Morrow would arrive today, and Samuel and Marco would be a great help, so with three people protecting his sister, he didn’t believe Brother Dao could do anything to him.
"Goodbye, Mr. Zuck," the cheongsam lady bowed slightly to Yusuf and then turned to leave.
The little giant, mountainous in stature, followed with heavy steps.
At this point, Samuel Ross and Benedict Cooke were completely in the dark. Not only had Brother Dao really brought a million, but he was also going to set a feast to apologize? Was it for real? What exactly had Yusuf done to make Brother Dao fold?
"Money in hand, let’s get in the car and divide the spoils," Yusuf signaled to Marco and Samuel with his eyes, and they immediately got into the car.
The briefcase was reopened, revealing neatly stacked hundred-yuan bills that seemed to glitter with golden light, making the hearts of Samuel and Benedict Cooke pound uncontrollably.
One million wasn’t a lot, but having one million in cash in front of them still made their hearts race. After all, they were just average citizens of the small town; decades of hard work might not accumulate such a sum.
"You and Marco take four hundred thousand each, and the remaining two hundred thousand is mine. Any problems with that?" Yusuf took out four stacks for Marco and then another four for Samuel before closing the briefcase.
"Ah, didn’t you say thirty thousand each for us yesterday? How come it’s increased by a hundred thousand?" Samuel and Marco said in astonishment.
Yusuf smiled, "Just take it, I’m not short on money right now."
"Fine, Marco and I won’t say anything else. As soon as Ms. Wilcox leaves, we’ll resign and then make a fortune with you," Samuel quickly made his decision. Whether they took the money or not, in Brother Dao’s eyes, he and Marco were already in the same boat as Yusuf, so they probably couldn’t work for Fleur much longer anyway. It would be better to declare their stance now, whatever Yusuf did, they would follow.
"Settled, then," Yusuf replied promptly, content with Samuel’s quick decision. When his sister returned or when the antique stall was set up, he would really need manpower, and having Samuel and Marco would be great support.
These two were also quite reliable in their work.
The two packed the money in two convenient bags before getting out of the car, and Yusuf also drove off.
Over a month of working as a security guard, driver, and bodyguard was over. He didn’t look back; with Ruth Wilcox gone from Fleur, he had no lingering attachments.
