Chapter 573: Chapter 572: Charity is a Virtue
In fact, Yusuf Zuck could guess what the Wilcox Family was thinking. They were simply trying to make use of his romantic relationship with Ruth Wilcox to extract benefits, implying that since he was marrying the most beautiful eldest daughter of the Wilcox Family’s main branch, he couldn’t just reap the benefits without any compensation, right?
So, they expected him to offer some benefits to the Wilcox Family in return, and then everyone would get along and make money together. Even if he didn’t agree to the twenty-five percent, twenty percent might be okay, or even fifteen percent—they would take as much as they could get.
Unfortunately, they didn’t understand what kind of person Yusuf Zuck was, which is why they lost. They lost to themselves and to their own cold-heartedness and ruthlessness!
"Come with me to Hong Kong to clear your head," Yusuf Zuck said to Ruth Wilcox as they walked downstairs, intending to take her away. Given the situation, she probably wasn’t in the mood to work anyway. It was too hurting and too heartbreaking.
"No need, I’m fine," Ruth Wilcox shook her head and said, "I’m used to it, so I’ve become numb. But thank you."
"Do we still need to say thank you to each other?" Yusuf Zuck said with a smile, shaking his head.
"Why not say it? You’re being too stingy. I’m not even worth twenty-five percent of the shares. You think you can marry me without spending a penny?"
"You are priceless in my heart," Yusuf Zuck said, putting his arm around her shoulder: "No one else has the right to buy or sell you."
"What do you mean by that? So you have the right to buy or sell me?" Ruth Wilcox glared at him.
"How dare I? You’re a tiger, who wouldn’t be afraid of you?" Yusuf Zuck said in a low voice.
Ruth Wilcox laughed and scolded, "Get lost. You’re of no use to me anymore, I’m going to drink with Ariel Higgins."
Yusuf Zuck nodded. He was reassured if Ruth Wilcox was meeting Ariel Higgins: "Then go ahead, I really have to leave, my flight is at two o’clock."
"Mhm, Manager Wang, come here for a second, arrange a car to take Director Zuck to the airport!" Ruth Wilcox called out to the new lobby manager in the hall.
"Yes, yes, I will arrange it right away," the lobby manager nodded repeatedly and then ran off to the driver’s team.
Ruth Wilcox got into a car first, and the driver waved to Yusuf Zuck before driving away. Ruth Wilcox was probably heading to the Wengquan Mountain Villa, which had become their main base, as Ariel Higgins lived there year-round.
Moments later, Yusuf Zuck also got into a Mercedes. He recognized the driver, who was one of the drivers from the driver’s team.
However, the driver seemed a bit tense. Back then, Yusuf Zuck had also been part of the driver’s team, but who could have imagined that the former driver would now become the damn chairman?
Yusuf Zuck did not talk to the driver. Truth be told, he was quite annoyed today, and he truly felt that Ruth Wilcox was undervalued.
After thinking for a moment in the car, he called Fleur Carson, "Contact Ariel Higgins. Have someone keep an eye on all the members of the Wilcox Family. I’m afraid these people might do something desperate. Pay extra attention to Ms. Wilcox’s safety."
"Got it," Fleur Carson acknowledged and then hung up the phone.
No sooner had he hung up with Fleur Carson, Marlon Shepherd’s call came in.
"What’s up?" Yusuf Zuck asked with a smile.
"Here’s the thing," Marlon Shepherd said after a moment’s thought, "I think the takeover of the Wilcox Family was just a spur-of-the-moment thing for you, and after you had vented, you’d let it be."
"What do you mean?" Yusuf Zuck asked, puzzled.
"What I mean is, once we fully take over the Wilcox Family, I’m thinking of selling it off to cash out."
"The financial reports are out, and the Wilcox Family has had financial deficits for years. The company is losing money. So, unless we invest heavily, we won’t be turning a profit any time soon after taking over. Moreover, the current crisis is over, but if foreign companies cause trouble again, we might find ourselves in a whole heap of trouble," Marlon Shepherd explained.
"So, after acquiring Wilcox Family, sell it off immediately."
"Won’t this result in a huge loss of money?" Yusuf Zuck asked.
"Of course, it will. But after cashing out, we have better investments. Besides, the company really isn’t short of money; what we lack are projects. Moreover, I plan to acquire a European bank and an international automotive enterprise, venturing into manufacturing, finance, and energy. Wilcox Family is just about retail, hotels, and some freight services. The market is basically saturated. It’s not worth the continued investment."
"Okay, you call the shots. But we need to learn from this experience with Wilcox Family; we can’t let others catch us out again," Yusuf Zuck reminded.
"I know, they won’t." Marlon Shepherd said before hanging up the phone.
"Wait, don’t hang up yet, there’s one more thing." Yusuf Zuck paused and then said, "Prepare to set up a charity foundation. I’ve made so much money and haven’t really done any good deeds yet, it’s time to do some good and accumulate some virtues."
"Sure, I’ve been wanting to talk to you about this for a while, just never had the time," Marlon Shepherd agreed readily.
"You handle the specifics. However, my idea is it would be best to build a public welfare hospital. Of course, it wouldn’t be entirely free, just cheaper than regular hospitals. And then we should hold large-scale free clinics every year to treat people who are truly in need. I remember when I was in my hometown, I often heard about children with leukemia whose families couldn’t afford treatment. A serious illness could bankrupt an entire family."
"Can do. With our current strength, we can definitely establish a private, not-for-profit hospital. Plus, there’s always trouble in your area—it will be much more convenient with a hospital!" Marlon Shepherd said with a laugh.
"Right, that’s the spirit!" Yusuf Zuck laughed heartily.
"Also, besides the hospital, we should help kids in impoverished areas who can’t afford to go to school, as well as lonely elderly people and the like. But let’s not go through organizations like the Red Cross; we should make direct donations. Additionally, the foundation should have an audit team, as I want to ensure that every penny is spent properly. I don’t want others misusing this money intended for good deeds, understand?"
"Understood. Don’t worry, anyone who dares touch it will answer to me," Marlon Shepherd assured.
"One more thing, send a team to investigate a place called Xihexiang in Hang City. I promised their village chief at least a five billion investment. See what might be suitable to invest in..."
"Five billion on one village? Boss, you can’t just make promises like that," Marlon Shepherd said, half laughing and half crying.
"I had no choice; they were risking their lives for me," Yusuf Zuck said helplessly.
"Alright, alright. I’ll send someone to survey it," Marlon Shepherd agreed.
"Also, pay attention to the antique collecting scene and luxury consumption. Soon, there might be a lot of rare treasures coming to light—they’re all mine. When the time comes, we’ll need to find buyers to exchange them for cash."
"Got it, no problem." With that, both finally hung up the phone simultaneously.
The driver at the front was already feeling waves of shock internally. Damn, Director Zhang is so rich, engaging in philanthropy and investments—the kind of things I’ve only seen in TV shows, and now they’re happening right next to me; I’m practically sitting next to Buddha!
"Alright, stop the car, no need to go to the airport, I’ll get off and walk." They hadn’t reached the airport yet when Yusuf Zuck ordered the driver to stop the car since they were already not far from it.
"Of course, Director Zhang." The driver immediately pulled over and even hurried out to open the door for Yusuf Zuck.
But Yusuf Zuck got out by himself.
"Thanks, no need for the formalities. Give me your phone number," Yusuf Zuck said, extending his hand.
"Oh, sure." The driver hastily handed over his number.
Yusuf Zuck dialed his own number, waited for it to ring once, and then hung up. He also said with a smile, "I’ll call you when I’m back to pick me up, okay?"
"Absolutely, no problem at all!" The driver took several deep breaths. Had he just gotten on first-name terms with Director Zhang?
