Chapter 502: Chapter 501: Tianyi Investment’s Meeting
The heat of midsummer August was like a blazing sun. The taste of home was beautiful, and after nearly half a year of absence, Yusuf Zuck was back in his homeland.
Maurice Singleton stayed in Shandong with Captain Wu and Goodwin Hart, because he needed to purchase ships and set up a company. With Captain Wu and Goodwin Hart’s extensive knowledge of ships, their support meant Maurice could quickly organize a fleet.
Maurice had several billion US dollars in hand, which Yusuf had given him as pocket money, so a few billion dollars were enough to buy a ship.
Before leaving Shandong, Yusuf had infused a drop of "Purple Water" into Maurice’s body, which would help him strengthen his physique to the greatest extent, and his strength was now comparable to someone at the late stage of entry-level.
Yusuf took a high-speed train back to the capital with his travel bag.
After half a year, the capital remained unchanged. By now, he was completely free and he didn’t believe anyone would come to cause him trouble—not the Dragon Group, not National Security, and not those potential enemies.
The house in Jade Garden was empty and quiet, although there were a few pairs of shoes and some women’s clothes hanging in the hall.
Paisley Kirk was the only one who had been living there.
Yusuf returned to his room, changed into a new set of clothes, and after some thought, he shaved off his beard but didn’t bother to cut his hair, which had grown longer, making him look like an artist or a literary youth.
This time, he didn’t notify anyone of his return; he wanted to personally walk around and see how the companies and hotels under his banner were doing.
After changing, he took a taxi straight to the Panjiayuan antique market.
The Treasures Pavilion was still running, with a good flow of customers coming and going. Since Yusuf had been away from the capital for a long time, Miles O’Brien couldn’t provide those rare antiques, so now the Treasures Pavilion also sold items like the Four Treasures of the Study and jade artifacts. She managed the place quite well.
When Yusuf entered, he didn’t see any familiar faces; Miles was not there, and the salesgirl seemed to be a newcomer he didn’t recognize.
"Sir, what do you need?" the salesgirl politely inquired.
"Where’s the boss? I’m an old customer of hers." Yusuf looked around but didn’t go upstairs, as there was no one there either.
"Our boss has gone to procure goods and won’t be back until tomorrow. Are you looking for her for something specific? I could give her a call?" the salesgirl offered eagerly.
"No need, no need, I’m just passing by." Yusuf waved his hand and smiled, "By the way, I remember there used to be someone named Anna Cooke here, is she still around?"
"Delaney? She’s gone with the boss to get goods too," the salesgirl said with a smile.
"Alright, got it," Yusuf nodded and then walked out.
Anna Cooke was still there and had gone with Miles O’Brien to procure goods.
Yusuf didn’t visit Bryce Harper and Marlon Shepherd’s shops because he had previously promised to go stone gambling with them but never made it, so the two owners were probably angry with him.
But there was no helping it since he was "dead" at that time.
After leaving the Panjiayuan area, Yusuf took another taxi to "Skeward Investment Company."
Skeward Investment Company was located in a building on the East Third Ring Road, among many office buildings housing domestic and foreign multinational corporations and a hub for elites.
Yusuf only knew that Skeward Investment had rented office space there but had never visited; everything was managed and presided over by Marlon Shepherd.
The sixteenth floor was where Skeward Investment was located.
When Yusuf reached the sixteenth floor, he immediately saw the reception of Skeward Investment, which also served as the front desk.
Yusuf Zuck glanced inside, and it seemed that the whole corridor had become Skeward Investment’s territory—as if this entire floor had now been completely taken over by Skeward Investment.
Yusuf Zuck remembered that in the beginning, Marlon Shepherd had told him they had only rented two rooms.
But now, the entire floor belonged to Skeward Investment, which made it clear how rapidly the company had expanded in less than a year.
It had to expand quickly; Yusuf Zuck had been sending a steady flow of US dollars, and with Marlon Shepherd and some elite talents he had picked out, how could Skeward Investment not grow?
"Sir, is there anything I can help you with?" asked the receptionist politely. She was there to answer calls or handle PR at the entrance.
"Hmm, is Marlon Shepherd in?" Yusuf Zuck asked with a smile.
"Do you have an appointment?" the receptionist asked in return.
"Uh... no." Yusuf Zuck shook his head. Did he now need an appointment to see Marlon Shepherd?
"I’m sorry, sir, our General Manager Shepherd is not in," said the receptionist upon hearing Yusuf Zuck didn’t have an appointment.
In fact, Marlon Shepherd was there, currently in a meeting room with about twenty people. Besides Marlon Shepherd, Yusuf Zuck also saw three familiar faces.
Two were veterans from the company who had initially invested in a pharmaceutical plant in Inner Mongolia, and the third was Fleur Carson’s wife, Mila Vazquez. Yusuf Zuck had a motive for getting Mila Vazquez to join the investment company: even Marlon Shepherd needed checks and balances, and with Mila Vazquez as the financial director, Marlon Shepherd had to discuss every expenditure with her.
He didn’t believe Mila Vazquez would ally with Marlon Shepherd, because Fleur Carson was there.
"The current General Manager of Ruiz Family, Herman Holloway, must resign. There’s no room for negotiation!" Marlon Shepherd was seated in the central position of the conference room, looking serious and slamming the table!
Yusuf Zuck was leaning on the reception desk, making small talk with the receptionist while listening to the meeting’s content.
When he heard Marlon Shepherd mention Herman Holloway, he couldn’t help but be greatly surprised. After being discharged from the hospital with a broken leg caused by Yusuf Zuck, Herman Holloway had found a job at Ruiz Family, which could be said to have poached him because Holloway was capable.
"But General Manager Shepherd, we need a reason, don’t we? Herman Holloway’s performance is there for all to see. Just because we acquired Ruiz Family doesn’t mean we should replace him immediately—that would destabilize the staff and possibly disrupt Ruiz Family’s strategic deployment for the latter half of the year, ultimately causing us loss!" one department head protested.
"Exactly, I also believe Herman Holloway can continue to be successful in his position as General Manager of Ruiz Family!"
"People with a strategic vision of the hotel industry like Herman Holloway are rare. Perhaps even Ruth Wilcox of the new century may not match up to Holloway, right? Furthermore, the turnover of the new century has been declining over the past six months, so if anyone is to be replaced, it should be Ruth Wilcox. After all, the incompetent should leave and the capable should rise!"
Seven or eight people in the meeting room suddenly started speaking in favor of Herman Holloway. Some even shifted the topic onto Ruth Wilcox, suggesting she should be replaced instead of Holloway.
"It’s decided then, Herman Holloway will be replaced!" Marlon Shepherd knew the inside story best. Herman Holloway and Yusuf Zuck were at odds, and it was Zuck who broke his leg after all, and Ruth Wilcox?
She was Yusuf Zuck’s woman, so even if Ruth Wilcox squandered the new century entirely, Zuck probably wouldn’t care one bit. On the contrary, he would provide even more money to let her squander!
"General Manager Shepherd, how can you do this and still face the directors of Skeward Investment? This is autocracy. I’m going to complain to the board about you, and if you dismiss Herman Holloway, then I also resign!"
"I resign too..."
"So do I..."
Five people threatened to resign, using their resignation to pressure Marlon Shepherd not to remove Herman Holloway.
Marlon Shepherd’s face turned ugly, and he glanced at the financial director, Mila Vazquez, who had been silent all along.
"This world, especially China, is never short of people. The company will keep running without any of us, and even run better. Therefore, I approve your resignations!" a voice sounded. Following that, Yusuf Zuck pushed open the conference room door, with the receptionist trailing behind him—she apparently hadn’t stopped him!
