Chapter 68: Forgotten Dark Forest

Elder Wang goal is to wait for the moment Shi Jing find Fang Yu and have two of them clash against one another.

This way, he can attack at the last second, accomplishing his intended objective without a hassle.

But from the past couple of days, it has been painstakingly difficult to follow Shi Jing.

At this moment, Shi Jing disappeared from his position, leaving the beast engaged. Obviously, smelling the scent of another human nearby, it attacked without regard for its surrounding.

Ten minute after Shi Jing disappearance, Elder Wang finally appeared from his concealed state and began attacking the Myriad Beast King.

Even for a Wandering Sea Realm cultivator, killing a Peak Myriad Beast King takes more than just a single move.

As he examined the corpse of this Myriad Beast King, he can’t help but grew wary of Shi Jing skills.

’What is this movement technique? He can disappear and blink away so quickly... Unless I can trap him instantly, it’s difficult to deliver a killing blow!’

Just thinking about it, Elder Wang frowned. If he wasn’t sure in killing Shi Jing in one blow, he wouldn’t want to make a move.

This way, he can avoid any unnecessary risks.

Not to mention, this Shi Jing is rumored to have some connection with the Sword Demon Inheritance, who knows what sort of tricks he has up his sleeves?

Elder Wang is a cautious individual. His action and planning runs deep, however, it could not be deeper than Shi Jing.

Perhaps the greatest advantage that Shi Jing have at this moment is the fact that people believe he is young, easily tricked.

When in fact, he is very mature and scheming. They lay their trap for him, without knowing that he is laying a trap for them!

Time and time again, Shi Jing has used this to his advantage.

This time, it is no different.

For the next six days, Shi Jing continues to harrass Elder Wang indirectly. He went as far as seeking out Beast Kings and even Myriad Beast Kings instead of waiting for them to come to him.

Seeing this behavior, Elder Wang grew increasingly impatient.

Finally, on the third week since Shi Jing arrival in the Forgotten Dark Forest. A change occured.

He found another human beside Elder Wang. It was Fang Yu, the traitor of the Sword Cloud Manor.

Due to Shi Jing’s concealment, he wasn’t detected or noticed. From this distance, hidden behind the dense canopy, Shi Jing figure is like a dot against the backdrop of the sky.

As he observed this Fang Yu, he realized the information on the jade slip was outdated.

This is because Fang Yu is at the Middle-Stage of Qi-Refinement rather than Early Qi-Refinement. However, to Shi Jing, this change is insignificant. It didn’t change anything for him.

At this moment, Shi Jing stealthily approached the man.

When he approached within ten feet of the man, Shi Jing exhaled lightly, dispelling a part of his Ghostly Mist which concealed his presence.

Immediately, Fang Yu leaped back, stretching the distance them.

"Who are you?" He asked, his voice was cautious and suspicious. In his hand is a rusted sword doused in crimson streak.

Clearly, his journey in the Forgotten Dark Forest is not without its obstacle.

’Realizing’ that he was exposed, Shi Jing stood there, staring at the man with an amused expression as he raised both hands up.

"Just a passerby," Shi Jing said, his voice was low and calm.

In this giant forest filled with beasts, this voice only further startled Fang Yu.

Just from a quick glance, Shi Jing instantly grasped the mental state of this man in front of him.

’He has been running away from the pursuit of the Sword Cloud Manor, droved into this forbidden region... His time here has not been good...’

If he were to put it into perspective, then Fang Yu, at this current moment, is no different from a cornered beast.

Of course, to Shi Jing, this only made the man more predictable.

"A passerby?" Fang Yu’s eyes narrowed, his grip tightening on his rusted sword. "In the depths of the Forgotten Dark Forest? Do you take me for a fool?"

The crimson streaks on his blade seemed to pulse with malevolent energy, and Shi Jing could sense the desperation radiating from the man. Three weeks of constant pursuit had clearly taken its toll—Fang Yu’s robes were torn and stained with blood, his face gaunt with exhaustion.

"Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant," Shi Jing replied with a slight shrug, his hands still raised in mock surrender.

His tone was almost conversational, as if they were discussing the weather rather than standing in a deadly confrontation.

"Though I must say, you look quite... weathered."

Fang Yu’s face darkened. "You’re from the Sword Cloud Manor, aren’t you? They finally sent someone capable of tracking me this deep."

’Interesting,’ Shi Jing mused internally. ’He immediately assumes I’m his pursuer. This person is quite quick on his thoughts..’

"The Sword Cloud Manor?" Shi Jing tilted his head, feigning confusion.

"I’m afraid you have me mistaken for someone else. Though..." He paused, letting his gaze sweep over Fang Yu’s disheveled appearance, "judging by your current state, it seems you’ve made quite a few enemies."

From his concealed position roughly fifty meters away, Elder Wang watched the exchange with growing satisfaction.

’Perfect. Shi Jing has found him. Now I just need to wait for them to weaken each other...’

Fang Yu’s breathing became more labored, his qi fluctuating erratically.

"Stop playing games! If you’re not from the Manor, then who sent you? The Yellow River Sect? The Thunder Monastery?"

Shi Jing couldn’t help but smile at the man’s escalating assumptions.

Each word seemed to push Fang Yu further toward the edge of reason.

’A cornered beast indeed. He’s so consumed by fear that he’s creating enemies where none exist.’

"You seem to have quite the imagination," Shi Jing said, finally lowering his hands.

"Tell me, what could a mere Middle-Stage Qi-Refinement cultivator have done to earn the attract the attention of so many powerful sects?"
