Chapter 38: Ordinary

He snorted with disdained, his spiritual pressure intensifying slightly.

This elder wasn’t aware of Shi Jing fame six month ago and he couldn’t care any less.

"Honestly, I don’t understand why the sect continues to allow such... mediocre talents to waste everyone’s time?" He murmured under his breath, just loud enough for Shi Jing to hear him.

Shi Jing’s eyes remained calm, but inwardly, a cold smile tugged at his lips.

’Foundation Establishment?’.

The elder paused mid-sentence, his brush trembling slightly in his grip. A chill ran down his spine as an inexplicable sense of mortal danger washed over him.

For that split second, he felt as though a sharp sword was pressed against his throat, ready to put his head on the ground.

But just as quickly as it came, the sensation vanished.

The elder blinked, shaking his head with a confused frown. ’What was that? An illusion?’

He glanced around suspiciously, then back at Shi Jing’s unremarkable Early-Stage Qi-Refinement aura.

’Impossible. How could a mere outer disciple...’

He dismissed the thought immediately. Surely it was just his imagination, perhaps he’d been working too long today.

Meanwhile, Shi Jing’s expression remained perfectly neutral.

"Shi Jing. Early-Stage Qi-Refinement. Fourteen years old," He stated calmly, as if nothing had happened.

The elder, still slightly unsettled but refusing to acknowledge it, hastily scribbled down the information with hands that trembled just barely.

After doing so, he walked inside the giant square and sat down on an emptied corner.

There were dozens of outer disciple before him. His appearance cause a few head to tilt, however, after sweeping him with their spiritual sense, they lost interest immediately.

Seeing this attitude, Shi Jing scoffed inwardly before closing his eyes.

’With my ghostly concealment cloak as well as the ghostly concealment spirit art, even a Dao Seed Realm expert cannot see through my true cultivation, let alone these Qi-Refinement cultivator.’

Time passes and another hour went by. The once emptied area is now filled with hundreds of participants.

However, none of this mattered to Shi Jing.

But at this moment, Zhao Gongzu entered.

His appearance attracted the whispers and discussion of the outer court elders among the spectators, with some inner court elders turning their head over.

"Young Master Zhao has arrived!"

"That spiritual pressure... Late-Stage Qi-Refinement at only fifteen? The Zhao Family’s bloodline and resources is truly extraordinary."

"I heard he comprehended the Zhao Family’s Heaven-Grade, Thunder-Clap technique in just three days. Even their elders were stunned."

An outer court elder leaned toward his colleague, speaking in hushed appreciation.

"The rumors say he’s already caught the attention of an Inner Elder. Some even suggest he’ll break through to Foundation Establishment within the year."

"Fifteen year old and already at Late-Stage Qi-Refinement," Another elder murmured.

"Most disciples his age are still stuck in the middle stages, or just entered Early Qi-Refinement. His cultivation speed is monstrous."

Zhao Gongzu strode through the crowd with measured steps, his pristine azure robes made his appearance stood out even more.

His handsome features carried an air of natural superiority, as if the world itself should bend to accommodate his presence.

Several outer disciples instinctively moved aside, creating a clear path without being asked.

"Senior Brother Zhao!" A few disciples called out eagerly, hoping to catch his attention.

Zhao Gongzu’s gaze swept over them with polite indifference, offering only the barest acknowledgment.

A slight nod that somehow managed to convey both graciousness and dismissal.

"Such natural bearing, this is clearly the attitude of a genius," an inner court elder observed approvingly.

Their praises and attention further fueled his ego and made him more proud. This is only natural.

After all, back when Ming Ye was still present, he was always known as the ’second best’. But after the former’s disappearance, all the fame trickled down to him.

Shi Jing appearance six month ago actually threatened his status, unknowingly attracting his animosity.

As Zhao Gongzu selected his position near the center of the formation, the ambient spiritual essence seemed to respond to his presence, creating subtle ripples in the air around him.

He sat down and began sweeping the crowd, seemingly looking for someone.

’Is he not here?’ Zhao Gongzu frowned when he couldn’t find Shi Jing among the crowd. Even with his spiritual sense, he couldn’t find him.

At the same time, Fang Zheng and Elder Chen Lian stood among the spectators, their spiritual sense sweeping the arena.

"Is that brat still not participating?" Chen Lian murmured under his breath.

With Fang Zheng being so close to him, he could hear the elder’s voice.

Fang Zheng, like Zhao Gongzu, was looking forward to seeing Shi Jing in this inner court competition, but for a different reason.

This has to do with the changes he experienced in six months.

After becoming an inner disciple as well as obtaining the support of Chen Lian who provided him with ample resources, he realized many crucial thing.

’Back then, with my shallow talent, I thought I was the big fish in the pond... But entering the Sword Cloud Manor, I realized, there is always a higher heaven...’

Shi Jing was the first to prove this point. Zhao Gongzu was the second.

He was no longer the rash and impulsive youth that he once was.

For this, he held no hostility or ill thought Shi Jing. Actually, he was quite respectful toward him.

’With his talent back then, he could have easily hoard all the resources from elder Chen as well as gather enough patron to soar in the outer court... This is what I would have done.’

Once again, Shi Jing gave him that unfathomable feeling since their first meeting.

But much time has passed and he is now an inner disciple. With his current cultivation and status, Shi Jing was like a fleeting memory of the past.

That is not to say that he regard Shi Jing lowly. In fact, he appreciated Shi Jing for not flaunting his talent and hoarding the resources, which ended up in his hand.

’Junior brother... What are you thinking?’ He questioned inwardly.

Shi Jing noticed Zhao Gongzu spiritual sense and deliberately avoided it to not attract his attention.

When Fang Zheng and Chen Lian extended their spiritual senses as well, his face crunched a little.

’Why is everyone trying to find me? Can’t I just sit in peace?’
