Chapter 579 - 48: Slay the Scorpion King

Chapter 579: Chapter 48: Slay the Scorpion King

Being bound by both legs, Lin Weiguo couldn’t dodge the sand spears. They pierced the old soldier’s body, making him appear as a hedgehog, but he remained unharmed.

The old soldier lopped off one of the Scorpion King’s arms and continued to attack, shaking his shoulders, causing the sand armor to peel off casting a cloud of yellow dust, momentarily blocking the Scorpion King’s sight. He then quickly slashed at the neck of the Scorpion King, where he had aimed earlier.

Amidst the sand and dust, the Scorpion King’s head flew up into the sky, with a mixture of fresh blood and sand gushing from the severed neck.

"How dare you hurt the Scorpion King, I will kill you!" The airborne head shouted angrily at Lin Weiguo.

The old soldier didn’t waver and slashed again, splitting its body into two. A crack appeared and then it crumbled into a pile of yellow sand.

"It’s not dead yet." Lin Weiguo shouted as a warning because his body was still sinking, as if he’d fallen into quicksand.

Xu Biyun saw the old soldier struggling to get out and commanded her puppet to run over. She pulled him out by his arm. However, as soon as the soldier was free, a battle-axe spun through the air and struck his side. His armor cracked, and blood seeped out.

The axe, still bearing momentum, went on to hit the puppet, hacking off one of its legs.

Yu Manli, leading the remaining four newbies, could barely defend herself against the onslaught of monsters. She could provide no help at all. This was only possible because Qin Yan, Lu Fan, and Pang Meiqin were drawing most of the attacks, else they would have been killed by now.

As the key character of the mission, Aima was naturally subjected to primary attacks. Qin Yan had already blocked three lethal attacks for her, and Pang Meiqin was wounded in her thigh.

Because Dantai and Tang Zheng carried items related to the resurrection of Ramses II, they were the primary targets of the monsters. The Giant Pharaoh Scorpion and the wolf-like creatures surrounded them tightly, launching relentless attacks one after another.

"Did he already anticipate this situation?" In the heat of the battle, Dantai regretted not giving the scepter to Tang Zheng. If he had done so, they wouldn’t be in such danger. But while he was lost in thought, a Pharaoh Scorpion’s poisonous tail tore through his protective clothing.

Dantai immediately felt numbness in his injured flesh, even losing the sense of pain. It was the effect of the poison. He quickly took out the curse-removal potion and took a sip. Fortunately, it was effective, and he loudly warned the others.

Tang Zheng deliberately did this. He already had three items. That was enough, it was good to let others share some of the risk too. And if there are benefits, he knew he should also distribute some. Keeping everything for himself would inevitably cause team fractures.

Tang Zheng’s snow replacement pill just killed more than a dozen wolf-headed monsters, but new ones would condense and pounce again. He speculated that killing the Scorpion King would make these monsters disappear, but whenever he thought of going to help Lin Weiguo, the Pharaoh Scorpions would launch a desperate attack, blocking him.

Chu Baichuan wasn’t much help either; protecting Ai Yixin alone exhausted a lot of his energy. Ai Yixin knew that they couldn’t continue like this, but there was nothing she could do. The cramping pain in her abdomen was making her sweat profusely.

The ground shook again, and a burst of sand erupted three meters high, condensing into the body of the Scorpion King. Its upper body was still human, with dark skin and distinct muscles. The lower body, from the waist down, was that of a scorpion, with a tail that had a sharp sting full of green phosphorescence.

The old soldier showed no fear and charged once again at the Scorpion King with his knife, while Xu Biyun started spraying it with her machine gun. Bullets hit its body, bursting out blood, which although didn’t inflict much damage, was annoying.

With a gesture from the Scorpion King’s right hand, a group of sand spears emerged from the ground, aimed at Xu Biyun. The RPG-gaming-loving girl suddenly sprinted to dodge, successfully evading at the last moment, then without any delay, got back up and started shooting at the Scorpion King while moving. Her puppet re-formed behind the Scorpion King and landed a heavy punch.

The nineteen-year-old girl, with a boyish short haircut and a bright disposition, started to strike back. Any wolf-like monsters in her path were turned into loose sand. She also purposefully avoided the Giant Pharaoh Scorpions because she knew she wasn’t powerful enough to handle them.

The Scorpion King once again launched a group of sand spears. Seeing Lin Weiguo approaching, it grabbed with its right hand, a bunch of sand burst out from the ground and in mid-air, it formed a sharp battle-axe which the Scorpion King grabbed, and swung fiercely at the old soldier.

The metal clash produced sparks, and the old soldier resisted the battle-axe with one hand, while he drew another knife with his right hand and slashed at the Scorpion King, causing a large amount of fresh blood to splatter out.

"You’re courting death!" The Scorpion King roared, its body wriggling, and from its ribs, three pairs of arms extended, grabbing sand and forming six battle-axes, which swung wildly at the old soldier like a whirlwind.

The old soldier didn’t retreat, he dual-wielded his cleavers and fought back. Amidst the clanging metal, the battle-axe repeatedly struck the old soldier, breaking off pieces of his armor, forcing him to continually step back.

Xu Biyun didn’t waste the opportunity created by Lin Weiguo’s engagement with the Scorpion King. Suddenly she stopped, took aim, and pulled the trigger. Bullets exploded into its head, causing blood to splash and the Scorpion King to scream in pain. Her puppet took this chance to jump on its back and pounded punches onto the head, finally locking its throat and twisting it fiercely.

Crack! The Scorpion King’s head viscously twisted a full 180 degrees.

"We won!" Xu Biyun cheered excitedly. The head of the Scorpion King was indeed its weakness. But before her smile could fade from her face, a group of sand spears shot from behind her.

"Dodge it!" Tang Zheng shouted.

Xu Biyun was startled. She tried to use the Blink Card from her wristwatch, but it was too late. A group of sand spears pierced her body, causing her to cough up blood and be thrown back. Fortunately, thanks to her Level A protective clothing, not all the spears penetrated her body. Still, she was seriously injured. Her right scapula was shattered, and her entire arm was totally ruined. A sand spear pierced through her chest, causing her lung to rupture. Xu Biyun even saw one spear, carrying her blood-soaked kidney, pinned to the ground. Her right leg had also been impaled.

With a gush, Xu Biyun, coughed up blood. Struggling, she took out a Mechanical Nanoinjection Liquid and pressed the protective needle into her neck with her thumb. She pressed hard to inject the liquid into her muscles.

Lin Weiguo seized the opportunity. Despite being hit by the axe, he made a leap and aimed a strike at the Scorpion King’s skull. Being held by a puppet, the Scorpion King couldn’t dodge and could only watch helplessly as the strike came closer.

With a hiss, its head flew into the sky, and blood, like rain, poured onto the desert. However, the old soldier was subsequently hit hard because he couldn’t dodge in mid-air. Eight axes struck him successively, cutting through his chopper and landing on his body.

With a clang, the old soldier was smashed into the ground like a meteor. His protruding blood instantly seeped into the ground, and quite a bit of his armor shattered from the impact.

"You ants, dare injure the great Scorpion King, die!"

Listening to the whoosh of the axe’s strike, Lin Weiguo, whose ribs were half shattered and internal organs damaged, did his best to roll away. But his luck seemed to be sufficient. An axe struck his thigh, smashing his yet-to-be-rearmed leg into a bloody mess. Sustaining a comminuted fracture, one leg was bent at 80 degrees.

Fortunately, the Scorpion King had lost its head and couldn’t aim. It could only chop down based on feeling. Otherwise, the old soldier would be done for with another hit.

In the meantime, Tang Zheng finally broke through the blockade of the Giant Pharaoh Scorpion. Seeing the flesh of Scorpion King’s neck squirming, a new head was growing. He immediately raised his muzzle and fired a cannon beam.

The Scorpion King’s entire neck was blasted off, revealing the bare and pale spine.

Whoosh, whoosh. The Scorpion King threw six axes, trying to hinder Tang Zheng and buy time to recuperate. It was only because Lin Weiguo’s weapons weren’t effective. If the weapon was the S-grade Snow Dimaru, the Scorpion King would have been beheaded and killed long ago.

Tang Zheng didn’t dodge. He took a direct line, drew the Demon Slaying Holy Flame and fired, knocking off an obstructing axe and successfully getting close.

Boom, boom. The Demon Slaying Holy Flame, worthy of its reputation as a premium prop for killing spirit-type monsters, shot the deer bullets wrapped in golden flames into the body. The blasting and demonic effects were simultaneously triggered, instantly causing its upper body to fall apart.

The severely injured Scorpion King howled, and its body began to sink, trying to escape into the desert.

"Biyun, call the puppet for defense." Tang Zheng knocked off a wolf-headed monster trying to get close to Xu Biyun with one hand, issued a reminder and then leaped onto the Scorpion King’s back.

He fired the Demon Slaying Holy Flame at its waist, whilst piercing Snow Dimaru fiercely into the chest, puncturing its still beating heart. He then stirred it on the go, cutting it into a mash.

The Scorpion King’s head was still screaming. The old soldier and endured the pain, using his MG43 to obliterate it.

The wolf-headed monsters on the square turned into a cloud of dust with a bang, the Giant Pharaoh Scorpion began to go back underground and go into hibernation. Everyone’s gaze was drawn to the Scorpion King.

The Scorpion King was dismembered, its mutilated upper body fell to the ground, its scorpion body twitched reflexively, and a large amount of blood flowed out, being absorbed by the dry sand.

Tang Zheng picked up the two golden seeds half-buried in the sand and threw them to the old soldier and Xu Biyun.

The old soldier didn’t hurry to catch it, but instead took out nanoinjection liquid to treat himself. Tang Zheng glanced at Aima and saw that she was not in danger. He then walked to Xu Biyun’s side to assist in checking her injuries.

"Biyun, you did well." Tang Zheng looked at the severely injured Xu Biyun who was barely breathing. He took out a Sweet Spring and gave her a sip. "Don’t worry. You won’t die, but you can’t continue to fight."

Xu Biyun wanted to speak, but she only managed to cough up a clot of blood. With her lungs injured, she couldn’t muster any strength.

"Uncle Lin can’t move either, multiple fractures." A blood-stained Lu Fan said somberly, stating a harsh reality.

"We can only leave them here. We can’t waste time; we have to go to the Seal Queen." Seeing everyone’s silence, Dantai took the initiative to speak.
