Chapter 564: Chapter 35: Three Strikes, Two Newbies Out
Chu Baichuan meant no harm, but his words sounded rather unpleasant to others. Yu Manli’s face turned a shade of iron blue out of anger. Her fists clenched tightly as she held back from smashing a punch onto Chu Baichuan due to his Seed Ability and his position as a Conqueror.
"Can you just shut up for once?" Tang Zheng glared at Chu Baichuan. If you can’t talk properly, then just don’t. Then he looked at Ai Yixin.
Ai Yixin returned an apologetic look to Tang Zheng, annoyed, she turned to her husband, "Apologize to Sister Manli!"
"No need." Yu Manli refused, intending to display some temper in time, otherwise she’d be taken for a pushover.
"Just because you have the ability, what’s so great about it?" Chu Baichuan muttered. He dared not defy his wife, but reluctantly and rudely mumbled an apology, "Sorry."
After ensuring the inn’s exterior was safe while holding the upper half of the janitor’s body, Chu Baichuan borrowed a shovel from Tang Zheng and went outside. However, after taking less than ten steps, the voice of Silver Trojan came out from the speaker on his wristwatch.
"In twenty seconds, the Punishment Troop will arrive, please prepare to run or fight!"
"Damn, is the Trojan determined to play us to death?" Chu Baichuan scurried back to the lobby like a rabbit hit by an arrow, looking for Ai Yixin.
"Go to the main street, don’t stay in the inn, be careful not to get trapped." Tang Zheng took out an AK74 with a 100-round drum magazine, waved for everyone else to leave, and tossed three Remote Control Bombs into a corner of the lobby.
"What’s happening?" Jasons and Victoria looked dumbfounded as they listened to the urgent countdown.
"Don’t just stand there, get out now!" Aima instinctually ran towards Tang Zheng in the midst of danger. Initially, Tang Zheng planned to stay here to destroy the Punishment Troop, but now he end up running while holding onto her hand.
With the countdown reaching ’one’, the Punishment Troop began teleporting. Nazi zombies, dressed in German military uniforms, appeared in the inn and on the streets. Among them were over a hundred undead warriors, rarely seen in normal times, mixed among the zombies. They were nine feet tall, wearing armor made of iron plates, holding a long spear in one hand and a large shield in the other, with a sword hanging from the waist, they looked like reincarnations of ancient warriors.
There were also a team of archers carrying a pot of arrows on each side of their waist and a ten-strength crossbow on their backs. As soon as they appeared, they drew their bows to the full lunar shape and shot their arrows at the same time.
The twanging sound of a bowstring seemed to tear through eardrums. Because of their extreme speed, the feathered arrows seemed to disappear into thin air and reappear dozens of meters away.
"Dodge!" Without needing Tang Zheng’s reminder, the remaining twenty people began to evade the moment the archers drew their bows.
The arrows broke the ground and went halfway into it. This was compacted concrete covered with cement, yet it was penetrated as if it were tofu.
Another twanging sound of the bowstrings vibrated swiftly, powerful arrows were shot again, and the Nazi zombies started shooting and charging.
"Get into the house, then make a hole to leave!" Tang Zheng attempted to arm the Hellfire, but unfortunately failed, so he could only use the AK74 to resist them.
With rhythmic gunshots, the few zombies running in front had their heads blown off and toppled forward due to inertia, spattering brain pulp everywhere.
The Conquerors counterattacked, however, the enemy instantly displayed a strong firepower, Cai Nan was hit, luckily her Protective Clothing took the blow for her.
The streets were full of Nazi zombies, blocking the escape routes, it would be more practical to first enter a house on the side of the road, establish a Defensive Line at the door, then make a hole in the wall to leave after attracting them to gather.
Tang Zheng’s plan was good, but it wasn’t executed well. The panicked newbies wanted to stay with the Conquerors, so they all rushed into the same house on the side of the road, immediately causing congestion.
The Nazi’s MG42 started to sweep fire, immediately hitting Qin Yan and Pang Meiqin. Fortunately, the women’s Protective Clothing was powerful enough, but Lin Haifeng wasn’t so lucky. He was first shot through the abdomen, and then his left leg was severely injured.
"Save me." The agonizing pain spread from his wound, causing Lin Haifeng’s face to turn white, his heart was palpitating, it could stop at any time. In the moment he fell, he instinctively tried to grab the person next to him.
"Ah, let go of me." Liu Hui’ai screamed, her calf was grabbed, causing her to fall face forward and bit her tongue.
"Save....me."
Before Lin Haifeng could finish the word ’me’ a foot wearing a leather boot kicked him, shutting him up instantly. The one and half inch heel stabbed into his chin, ripping his lips, and blood gushed out.
"Hui ... save ..." Seeing that he had grabbed Liu Hui’ai’s calf, a look of excitement swept over Lin Haifeng, but his call for help fell on deaf ears again.
"Let go of me, let go of me." Liu Hui’ai screamed, not listening to her ex-boyfriend’s plea. She stomped her right foot hard, banging it repeatedly on his face, "Go to hell, go to hell."
This unexpected series of rapid stomping made the high heels seem like blades, hurriedly stabbing Lin Haifeng’s face, forehead, chin, skin tearing, blood splashing.
"You ... you’re asking for it." Lin Haifeng was in unbearable pain, and tried to pull Liu Hui’ai in front of him, but let out a sharp scream as if his soul was shattered.
Liu Hui’ai’s high-heeled boots jabbed into Lin Haifeng’s right eye, leaving behind a gruesome, bloody socket.
"We’ll die together." Lin Haifeng could feel his life rapidly draining away. Ignoring his injured eye, he clung tightly to Liu Hui’ai’s leg, intent on taking her down with him.
Bullets and arrows whizzed around them. Fearful screams escaped Liu Hui’ai as she struggled, unable to break free from Lin Haifeng. Her face twisted viciously, and without any hesitation, she aimed her gun at him.
"No!"
Two gunshots echoed in quick succession, and Lin Haifeng’s screams abruptly cut off as half of his head was blown away. The woman licked the corner of her mouth, kicked Lin Haifeng’s head, and sent him flying away.
The heel of her boot, smeared with his brain matter, didn’t faze Liu Hui’ai. She didn’t even flinch, let alone feel sick, as she frantically began to crawl towards the house.
A whizzing arrow pierced her protective clothing and lodged into her thigh. Liu Hui’ai fell, and as she looked at Ai Yixin, who was protected by Chu Baichuan, regret filled her eyes. If only she had chosen a better man, she wouldn’t have to endure this hardship.
Liu Hui’ai strained to crawl, crying streams of tears as gunfire resounded from within the house, and no one stepped out to help her.
"I don’t want to die!" Liu Hui’ai wept. The blood loss made her head spin, and just when she was reflecting that she would die without ever wearing a diamond ring, her collar was yanked, and her body was thrown into the house.
Despite colliding hard with the interior of the house, Liu Hui’ai wore a relieved expression. She saw Tang Zheng was the one who had thrown her in and was overwhelmed with gratitude.
The Central Hammer Squad also had several machine guns at their disposal. Their firepower suppressed the Nazi zombies crowding on the street, making the use of a thunderstorm unnecessary. However, when five giant zombies armed with dual Terminators appeared, the situation shifted.
The Gatling gun’s high-speed fire discharged bullets in a swift frenzy. The barrage of gunshots was a rain that steadily chipped away at the wall, pummeling it into pieces. Eventually, the wall collapsed under the assault.
The squad couldn’t counter-attack the sweeping gunfire. Their bodies might be bulletproof, but their heads weren’t.
Victoria hugged her head, screaming continuously as if it could dispel the fear resonating in her heart. Chunks of the wall that were blown off hit her, causing her pain.
Tang Zheng and Lin Weiguo, who had donned a sand armor, broke through a bedroom wall, leading the rest into the street.
"Leave a few big ones for them to taste." Tang Zheng tossed the remote control bomb into the room. Preparing to retreat, he saw no one attending to Liu Hui’ai and sighed, hoisting her onto his shoulders.
"Thank you." Liu Hui’ai was extremely weak. The injuries she sustained a few days ago hadn’t recovered, and coupled with the blood loss, she was losing consciousness. But she knew that Tang Zheng had saved her life for the third time now.
The Nazis’ pursuit was swift. The pioneering assault team had already rushed through the blown-out hole. Tang Zheng couldn’t wait any longer, he triggered the detonator.
Boom, boom. A rush of scorching fire gushed out from the windows, engulfing the Nazi zombies that had entered. The entire house was blown apart in an instant, the resulting dust expanding in all directions under the shockwave.
Having already run forty meters away, Tang Zheng’s safety was still not guaranteed. He was caught by the shockwave, tossed forward as if struck with a hammer. This caused him to lose his grip on Liu Hui’ai, and he accidentally dropped her.
Liu Hui’ai collided with a nearby wall, almost fainting.
Like a startled rabbit, Tang Zheng leapt up, grabbing Liu Hui’ai and hoisting her back onto his shoulders, and continued running.
Splayed over Tang Zheng’s body, Liu Hui’ai vomited blood continuously, staining half of Tang Zheng’s body red. When the shockwave had hit, Liu Hui’ai’s body had basically served as a meat shield for Tang Zheng, resulting in internal injuries.
Gunfire reminiscent of a fabric cutting machine resonated through the alleys. Sensing the pangs of pain originating from his back, Tang Zheng realized he had been shot. Judging by the distance, Liu Hui’ai had probably not been spared either. Still, he didn’t abandon her.
Qin Yan and others had already set up defenses at their position, even climbing onto two adjacent rooftops. They frequently obstructed the zombies, providing cover for Tang Zheng’s retreat.
Bang, Lu Fan squatted at the edge of the roof and fired his Gauss sniper rifle. He hit the head of a giant zombie, quickly reloaded, and after fewer than seven seconds, another giant zombie dropped to the ground, its head destroyed, bringing down a portion of the right wall.
Tang Zheng set Liu Hui’ai down and looked at her legs, dyed red with her own blood, and sighed.
"Am I beyond help?" Liu Hui’ai asked, sitting against the wall, her face drained of color due to the blood loss. Her consciousness clear now was just her last surge of energy.
Tang Zheng didn’t know how to respond.
"Thank you, really!" Liu Hui’ai managed a small, grateful smile. She reached out to cup Tang Zheng’s face, but her hand fell midway. She then closed her eyes.
"Tonight’s losses were significant!" Xu Biyun’s face was etched with worries, hearing the enraged roars of the Nazi zombies in the street. (To be continued. If you like this work, please vote and support on qidian.com. Your support is my biggest motivation.)
