Chapter 558: Chapter 31 The Queen’s Love Letter (Third update, 10,000 words)

"Should we stay overnight in the town? I have a bad feeling about this!"

Standing on the balcony of the simple inn, looking at Siva Town gradually shrouded in darkness, Qin Yan wore a solemn expression.

To deal with any sudden crisis, all women had to stick together. The male newbies did not have such a privilege. Aside from Xu Liangmao, who was singled out for his abilities and was able to move with Old Soldier, the others had to prove themselves.

Despite being envied by the likes of Ruxiong, Xu Liangmao, a man who had once been looked down upon and betrayed by his wife, was unbothered. He followed Old Soldier around, silent and stoic, continuously wiping his already clean rifle with a towel.

"I brought the Golden Scarab. Where’s the money?" In the end, Mai Lu restrained his greed and refused to be Jasons’ guide.

The inn wasn’t luxurious but as the only officially sanctioned inn in Siva, safety was guaranteed and some special services were available, so most tourists chose to stay here.

In the inn’s lobby, there was a bar and a stage where guests could watch professional belly dance performances. However, except for Chu Baichuan who ordered a bottle of beer, Tang Zheng and the others weren’t in the mood for entertainment and were quietly resting.

"You all look so gloomy, not much different than the dead." Victoria grumbled unhappily after taking a sip of red wine, ignoring Mai Lu.

George opened a box next to him. The green US dollars almost blinded Mai Lu, he gleefully picked up a stack, thumbing through them, listening to the crisp sound of the bills. He nodded, satisfied.

"This is the 5 million cash you asked for, the rest will be transferred to your account after we have inspected the goods." George didn’t stop Mai Lu from counting the money.

"Very well, here you go." Mai Lu took out a black case from his travel bag and threw it to Jasons. He then plopped down next to Victoria.

"May I buy you a drink?" Mai Lu smoothly tried to strike up a conversation with Victoria, one arm already snaking around her waist until an interruption.

"Do you want to die?" Victoria’s private assistant glared, her right hand clutching a small silver handgun aimed at his stomach.

"Just joking, no need to take it seriously." Mai Lu laughed awkwardly a few times and then moved to a safe distance.

When Jasons opened the case, a dazzling gold light spilled out. Inside the red velvet lining was a fist-sized Golden Scarab. It was lifelike, with two sapphire stones for eyes — it was radiant.

"Where’s the Book of the Undead? Let’s give it a try!" Jasons looked at Tang Zheng with obvious excitement in his voice.

Tang Zheng handed over the book. He didn’t want to be the first to touch such an unknown item, also at this close distance, he wasn’t worried about the wealthy Jasons playing tricks.

"Great stuff!" Upon seeing this large sheepskin book filled with an ancient mystical aura, Mai Lu exclaimed involuntarily. He instinctively moved to touch it but was stopped by George.

Jasons took out the Golden Scarab, placed it into the indent on the book cover, and a dark red mist immediately rose from the book. The scarab seemed to come to life, its six legs shaking desperately, but the indent suddenly shot out six golden suction tubes that plunged deep into the scarab’s body.

The scarab began to scream and struggle more fiercely, but to no avail. Red blood flowed from its body through the suction tubes, nourishing the Book of the Undead.

"Incredible!" Everyone was dumbstruck by the scene unfolding before them. Even the tourists who had previously been relaxed and watching the belly dance came over to see what was happening.

"My love for you is unique. When you walk past me, you take my heart with you!"

The red mist that had spilled out of the Book of the Undead in the air formed these Ancient Egyptian words. After being read by an endearingly deep voice, it seemed the air was filled with a thousand years’ worth of love. It was so sweet, it gave one a pleasant feeling in the heart.

The latch on the golden lock, engraved full of hieroglyphics, clicked open. The Book of the Undead could finally be leafed through, Jasons’ hands shaking with excitement.

On the first page of the slightly yellowed, faded sheepskin was written a loving message in red ink, as if it was written with the fresh blood of Ramses II.

"Let me read it, I have studied Ancient Egyptian," Mai Lu swallowed hard, repeatedly wiping his hands on his trousers, concerned about not sullying this valuable cultural artifact.

Jasons looked at Tang Zheng, who nodded in agreement.

"Thank you." Mai Lu was visibly excited. As a tomb robber, claiming that he was not curious about these rare artifacts would be a lie. At the very least, this could enhance his experience and identity.

Mai Lu’s reading was full of fits and starts, but after six sentences, a red halo burst from the book, causing the onlookers to gasp in unison. They exchanged glances, buzzing with speculation, totally clueless about what was going on.

The newbies, however, were excited. After being bathed in the red halo, they felt an unprecedented sense of freshness. Their foul odor had vanished, and their rotten flesh visibly healed.

Tang Zheng and Dantai sniffed the air and exchanged a glance, discovering the first use of this book.

After the seventh sentence, the inn lobby seemed to transform into a garden full of fresh flowers, a faint fragrance began to fill the air, wafting to everyone’s noses, even the belly dancer was drawn over.

No one spoke, but their eager eyes were pushing for Mai Lu to continue reading. After being bathed in the red halo, their skin became smoother and more elastic, as if they had become a year younger.
