Chapter 543: Chapter 19: Mad Slaughter and Reduction (3rd update, 10,000 words)

"There’s a casino on this floor, it’s big enough for us to hide in." Ruxiong, who had a knack for being a war correspondent, had perhaps honed his courage in the Museum battle a few days ago. He quickly regained his composure, returning fire in a competent manner. Though he still hadn’t killed a single enemy, at least he was no longer a burden.

"I don’t want to be a coward all my life." Xu Liangmao muttered encouragingly to himself as he started firing at the Nazi Zombies, treating them as stepping stones to success.

The coaxing of Manli, the mature woman, had worked. These two men remained by her side, emboldening her considerably. After all, the caliber of one’s companions could indeed influence others in times like these.

"Fight for your life, Hu Xiaoyan. You must fight to survive." Manli was reminding herself as much as demonstrating her abilities; another person firing would certainly make their firepower more fierce.

"No good, we must retreat to the top floor and hold out!" Tang Zheng donned a Kevlar helmet. He was reluctant to use his Thunderstorm rifle on these cannon fodder zombies, so he opted for a regular machine gun instead. However, even with the support of Lin Weiguo’s Howling Reaper, they were gradually being overwhelmed.

Because of Dantai’s thwarted advancement, the zombies chasing them had caught up. The Nazi zombies wearing high-top military boots and bearing skull armbands were clearly the elite. They had all sorts of heavy weaponry, and Tang Zheng even saw hundreds of them holding STG44s, carrying M24 hand grenades around their waist, and slinging Iron Fist Anti-Tank Rocket Launchers on their backs.

"Bundle Grenade!" An officer zombie barked in German, and the zombies behind him quickly pulled rings from bundles of M24s, stood up, and hurled them with all their might.

There were dozens of clusters of grenades, almost obscuring their field of vision. If these fell into the crowd, it would cause serious, if not fatal, injuries. Who could guarantee that a piece of shrapnel wouldn’t hit their heads?

Lying on the deck and shooting at the lower floor, Tang Zheng suddenly stood up, swapped out for the Terminator Six-Barrel Machine Gun, and fired into the sky at a 50-degree angle.

Amid the whirring sound of rotating gun barrels, six streams of bullets, like flames, fired out. A sizable amount of bullet shells were ejected, falling on the deck with a loud metallic chaos.

Boom, boom, boom, all the bundle grenades were detonated mid-air. The resultant fireballs bloomed like fireworks, and the thick black smoke hung heavy in the air, marring the sky with ugly patches.

"Holy shit, he can do that?" Dantai kept charging forward and took a hasty glance back. He was taken aback. Blasting dozens of grenades in the air required lightning-fast reflexes.

The newbies covered their ears as the incessant machine gunfire and explosions nearly deafened them.

Heat waves crashed down, causing their clothing to flutter. A bullet hit Tang Zheng’s shoulder, but was blocked by the Firefly. Even so, a cold sweat broke out on his brow. If the bullet had been just a little off, it could have cost him his life. He wanted to crawl back to the deck, but the zombies were adamantly opposing him.

The zombies took down their recoilless weapons, aimed them upwards, and frightened both Tang Zheng and Lin Weiguo. If they were targeted by a rocket launcher, multiple lives wouldn’t be enough to die.

"We can’t let them fire." The Howling Reaper’s firing speed had reached its limit. Ten seconds later, the 200-round bullet chain ran out, leaving Lin Weiguo nearly spitting blood in frustration. With no time to replace it, he could only use the Gravity Rifle. However, no matter how powerful that gun was, it couldn’t match the firing speed of a machine gun. Tang Zheng had to bear all the weight.

Tang Zheng moved his muzzle, and the six streams of gunfire swept across. However, killing required time, and unless the zombies’ heads were blown off, they could still attack even if only half their bodies remained. Thus, Tang Zheng barely managed to clear half the deck before the zombies fired their Iron Fists. Several large rockets, trailing smoke, were launched.

The sight of the incoming rockets created immense pressure, but Tang Zheng couldn’t dodge; he could only brace himself to resist because his entire team was behind him. Despite moving up a floor under the leadership of Dantai and Qin Yan, they were still within the range of the Iron Fist attacks.

Tang Zheng tried to arm himself with the Iron Hellfire, but to no avail. It seemed that in a fantasy plot, technological weapons were subject to limitations.

Facing the rocket, Tang Zheng returned fire. The nearest explosion was almost three meters in front of him. Shrapnel flew everywhere, flames billowed, and the scorching blast nearly parched his lips.

A piece of shrapnel zipped past his cheek, lacerating his earlobe. If he hadn’t dodged quickly enough, it would’ve pierced right through his cheek.

"Alright, you can come up now." Dantai’s long-lost voice finally reached him, allowing Tang Zheng to breathe a sigh of relief. Lin Weiguo also began to throw grenades as they fought and retreated. During this brief moment, Tang Zheng had killed nearly five hundred zombies. The deck was carpeted over a foot deep in gore, all soaked in dark, sticky blood.

Tang Zheng switched back to the M4A1. The Terminator consumed too much ammunition; even though he had hundreds of thousands of bullets, it still pained him. Besides, he spotted seeds dropping from the dismembered zombies, but unfortunately, he couldn’t pick them up.

Using grenades to hinder the zombies and rifles to kill, Tang Zheng and Lin Weiguo retreated steadily, covering the rear of the team. However, they both knew it was only a brief respite; once the other zombies caught up, they would be in for a tough battle again.

An empty clip fell onto the deck; Tang Zheng had no time to pick it up. His military boots tread upon the mangled remains as he retreated, leaving behind a trail of bloody footprints. Moments later, with a loud growl, the team stopped again.
