Chapter 535: Chapter 12 Attacker
Tang Zheng’s caution paid off. Five minutes after the old soldier entered the villa, a panic-stricken call for help came from the truck driver. The voice was low and abruptly quiet.
"You guys wait here and attack any unidentified targets. Dantai, come on." Tang Zheng held his rifle and rushed towards the villa, followed by Dantai. Just as they stepped through the door, they heard a series of dense sounds which he recognized as a silenced submachine gun firing.
"On the second floor." Dantai quickly searched for cover without turning on the tactical flashlight, otherwise, he would have just told the enemy where he was.
The décor in the lobby was simple, both of them hid behind some typical English style furniture and waited for a few seconds. To ensure safety, Dantai lowered his voice, pointed to the second floor, "You stay and guard, I’ll go."
Dantai lept out from hiding, rushed to the second floor staircase, slightly bent like an agile cat, making only minimal sounds.
Tang Zheng’s eyesight had also been enhanced multiple times. Although there was no light, he could barely see everything with the white moonlight coming in through the window.
The gunshots lasted for about ten seconds then ceased. The driver was injured, shouting obscenities, but it immediately stopped, as if he had been slapped by the old soldier. The drunken guy was in silence. Tang Zheng guessed he was not dead. Otherwise, the old Lin would have used his abilities to annihilate the enemy in the first place.
Dantai’s sudden intrusion didn’t let the gun battle resume. Both parties began to negotiate. The old soldier also had language specialization and English was not a problem for him. Both sides were arguing fiercely, each asking the other’s origin and demanding they lay down their firearms.
"Looks like it’s humans, has Aima offended somebody?" Tang Zheng was hesitating whether to ambush the enemy from behind when a figure darted in through an open window and quickly hid by the fireplace.
Tang Zheng tried to hide in the shadow of the sofa, raised his muzzle and pointed it at her. Right as he was considering her next move, the orange-red gunshot inside the shadow appeared and bullets whizzed in his direction, hitting his sofa.
Using the gunshots as cover, the figure threw a hand grenade which rolled on the wooden floor, making only a slight rattle of reaction. If it hadn’t been for Tang Zheng’s excellent hearing, he would have been deceived.
Tang Zheng had no choice but to dodge, diving towards the sofa next to him. As if they had anticipated his actions, the enemy’s single-shot turned into a continuous shot, chasing him around, sweeping out a straight line of red.
"Fell into the trap." The hand grenade didn’t explode which made Tang Zheng extremely annoyed. He did not believe the thing was broken, it was obviously a trick by the enemy to force him out.
At this moment, Lv Beike also felt very shocked. This trick can completely test the enemy’s level. If they didn’t dodge, they will be served with a hand grenade with the pin pulled. No tricks were needed to deal with a fool. If they dodged, Lv Beike can shoot. There were only two places to dodge bullets in this living room. He had almost preemptively predicted Tang Zheng’s evasion route and coupled with his own superb marksmanship, it was enough to kill the opponent.
However, the enemy moved exactly according to Lv Beike’s expected route, but so fast that it was unbelievable. If it weren’t for the years of warfare that gave him an instinctive shooting reaction, he would have completely missed the opportunity just now.
After cursing, according to the rules of battlefield engagement, one should never give an enemy a chance. With his extensive experience, Lv Beike was on the move to make the next move. But the other side opened fire, and he heard a familiar metallic rolling sound.
"It’s a hand grenade." Lv Beike dared not to risk it. The other person’s throw was very accurate by the sound of it, the grenade was rolling towards him and he could only dodge.
Lv Beike jumped from the side of the fireplace and quickly moved towards the preselected home theater, while suppressing fire at the same time.
Further on, he would enter the guest rooms of the lobby. By that time, he would have numerous advantages. Lv Beike had already memorized the battlefield environment and even played the next battle process in his mind. But reality was cruel as his body barely leaped out and a flash of muzzle fire appeared from the darkness. He felt pain in his lower abdomen and ankle. Without a doubt, it was a gunshot.
"Expert." Lv Beike knew he had encountered a tough opponent. The kinetic energy of the bullet made his body deviate from the predetermined position. He was figuring out how to respond after the fall, when the bullet came over again, accurately hitting his other thigh.
Lv Beike turned pale. If he was still hopeful after the first gunshot, then these two clopped shots completely extinguished his hopes. Such strong accuracy under such a poor vision, not only indicates that the opponent has excellent reflexes, but his brain is also functioning well. This tactic is identical to his own.
"Nice tactic you got there." Tang Zheng started to apply pressure to his opponent.
Lv Beike was taken aback. The opponent’s ability to learn on the spot was too strong and even more perfect than him. But so far the opponent had not killed him, obviously wanting to keep hostages, this was an opportunity to survive.
"Don’t move, or I’ll kill you." Tang Zheng’s voice was cold, "Throw your gun, you only have three seconds to choose."
"One."
Lv Beike looked at the second floor, the arguments had ended and silence returned, it was clear that the negotiations had broken off.
"Two. My friend won’t lose. He’s not attacking, just wants hostages, but now it’s unnecessary." Tang Zheng continued to apply pressure, "Loss of blood can also kill you, you have no choice."
Lv Beike sighed. He knew he had no choice. If a fight broke out upstairs, and the others won, he would still be a captive. If they lost, he would definitely be the first one who got his brains blown out.
"I surrender." Lv Beike promptly threw away his rifle and pistol.
"Old Soldier, we have the hostage. He’s ours to deal with now."
Hearing Tang Zheng’s confident call, Lv Beike’s heart jumped into his throat, and then gunfire erupted from the second floor. It didn’t last a minute before the gunshots stopped.
"Impossible, they’re that strong? My team can’t take a street battle without three squads and heavy firepower." Lv Beike’s face was filled with disbelief, but there was no place for luck. The constant screams of his comrades reminded him of the grim reality of the battlefield.
Tang Zheng laughed secretly. After Lin Weiguo used his ability, he became a mini mobile fortress that couldn’t be penetrated by hand grenades. However, Dantai’s action would be even quicker. One mental impact went over, probably made everybody unconscious.
Ignoring the inevitable victory upstairs, Tang Zheng took out a rope and tied Lv Beike up. The latter didn’t struggle, otherwise his blood loss would accelerate.
A short while later, Old Soldier hobbled down the stairs, supporting the wounded driver. The drunken man was fine, and his gloomy face was gone. He strolled down with several rifles around his shoulder, and even greeted Tang Zheng, who was treating Lv Beike’s injuries.
"I’ve figured it out. I’ll do my best to earn my fortune and not let my wife look down on me anymore." The man, now past thirty, took off his cheap stained suit and was only wearing a shirt. His back, once bent by the pressures of life, straightened again. "This is an opportunity, and I won’t give it up."
"Help me, I’ve been shot." The truck driver clutched his thigh and moaned, desperately looking for pity. But he had lost some flesh. If it had hit an artery, he wouldn’t have the strength to jump around.
"Let Old Soldier treat you." Tang Zheng threw him a hemostatic spray and propped up Lv Beike. "Speak up. Why did you cause trouble for Aima? Satisfy me and you can live for a while longer."
Lv Beike hesitated. He glanced upstairs and then scrutinized Lin Weiguo, asking, "What about them?"
"Everyone’s been caught alive." Old Soldier simply admitted. Lv Beike’s pupils contracted violently, and he exclaimed, "Impossible."
"We can handle a dozen more like that." Dantai, who was already inspecting the living room, laughed. "Why don’t I do it? In ten minutes, I can get everything out of him, even if his mother was ever unfaithful or when he had wet dreams."
"Are you soldiers? No, special agents?" As a captain of the French Foreign Legion, Lv Beike had seen it all and didn’t falter easily. But the composition of this small team puzzled him. There was an old soldier, civilians, and seemingly even a student.
"No, we’re Aima’s personal bodyguards." Tang Zheng didn’t mind admitting it. This would make anyone think twice before messing with Aima.
"I was defeated by a student? You must be a special agent." Lv Beike stared at Tang Zheng, trying to see through him. He didn’t believe that his twenty years of war experience would be defeated by a college student.
"We’re mercenaries from the Blackwater Company." The driver gave a gasp of pain, clumsily familiarizing himself with a rifle, but he forgot to secure the safety. Old Soldier guided him a bit.
"Ha, if Blackwater had people like you, they would have gone bankrupt. But, you folks aren’t bad." Lv Beike was surprisingly fluent in Chinese, and he argued back smoothly.
"So, you’re from the French Foreign Legion?" Tang Zheng asked unexpectedly in French. Lv Beike’s eyelid twitched noticeably, it was a small gesture, but Tang Zheng caught it.
"Your purpose here." Tang Zheng gestured to the upstairs. "I do not wish to kill anyone, do not force me to."
"To capture Aima." Listening to Tang Zheng’s accurate French pronunciation, Lv Beike was stunned. This reinforced his belief that Tang Zheng was a special agent. Thinking about the ruthless interrogation techniques used by such people, he gave up resistance. After all, his men were still alive.
"Whose orders?" Aima rushed in angrily. Without Tang Zheng and the others, she would have been doomed.
"Sir Jasons." Lv Beike looked at the men and women entering the living room with a calm face. He was relieved. These were civilians who didn’t dare to kill.
"A billionaire? What does he want with me?" Aima frowned, feeling a huge amount of pressure. A mega-wealthy man was among the top ten richest men in the UK. He could easily crush her with his riches.
"Go check if your demon-exorcising prop is still there." Qin Yan was irritated, it seemed the mission was becoming more complicated.
"No need to look for it. It’s the Book of the Undead, isn’t it? We’ve already taken it." Lv Beike was frank. "Sir Jasons meant no harm, he just wants to find the real tomb of Ramses II. Your archaic grandfather had a lot of related materials, and the Sir believes you are more promising than your grandfather."
"Our teacher also happens to be a professor of archaeology." A student called Cai Nan pointed to the old man, his face glowing with excitement. "He has lots of research on the Egyptian pyramids as well."(To be continued. If you like this work, please come to qidian.com and vote for it. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
