Chapter 504: Chapter 48 The Final Battle_2

"Oh, you’re saying you dispatched special forces to kill them? No need to worry, the ones who will die are others." Tang Zheng was totally unconcerned.

"But they are a team of over fifty elites?" One admiral thought Tang Zheng was overconfident.

"Even triple that number won’t help." As Tang Zheng had said, three minutes later, a lieutenant general received news that his subordinates’ entire team had been annihilated.

"Admiral, we must protect you at all times." Tang Zheng proposed an outrageous requirement, not caring about what others thought.

"Is this a threat?" The admirals frowned. Nobody liked an uncontrollable risk lurking around them.

"Don’t go too far." The big-breasted sister pulled Tang Zheng’s arm, advising him to restrain himself.

"Okay." Unexpectedly, Pang Tuoke agreed.

When they saw Qin Yan and the others again, everyone had faces filled with joy, and the team’s atmosphere had lightened considerably. They didn’t have to go to the frontline, and they could escape when the base was bombed. No development could be more perfect than this.

"I knew something was wrong as soon as I saw the sentries leave, so I set up an ambush. I didn’t let a single one go." Little Lolita was proud. She had one of Tang Zheng’s monitoring beetles in her hand, so she had full knowledge of the enemy’s actions.

In the following day, the beastmen continued to attack the base, but Tang Zheng and the others, acting as bodyguards, enjoyed the most relaxing time since they entered Trojan Horse Game. They didn’t have to worry about being killed at any moment.

"Be careful with the Punishment Squad." Tang Zheng’s words made everyone nervous again. Ruan Zhiming and the big-breasted sister felt like they were sitting on pins and needles. Being with the Central Warhammer team was no different from being in a wolf’s den. They felt utterly unsafe.

"We can’t hold out any longer. The beastmen’s offensive is fierce. The mad female orcs and the beastman guard team have repeatedly entered the battle, resulting in a lot of losses." The military department heads were in a meeting again. When these words reached Qin Yan’s ears, she felt uncomfortable. She knew what the lieutenant general meant by saying these words - they just wanted to leave and ignite the Yim energy as soon as possible.

"No, we must hold out for at least five more days, let the beastmen continue to gather here." Admiral Pang Tuoke stared at the beastman forces captured on satellite images, his face grave.

"Let’s wait a few more days. We will solve the problem once and for all. Now it seems that beastman civilians are also coming here under the call of the queen, being used as cannon fodder to enter the battlefield."

Under the decision of the generals, the fierce battle continued. This place had thoroughly turned into a battlefield meat grinder. In just four short days, humans had suffered over two million casualties, beastmen more than four million, and countless supplies were consumed.

When they first heard these numbers, everyone was dumbstruck. Especially after they had accompanied the admiral to inspect the frontline and saw the battlefield covered with fresh blood and pieces of flesh, they couldn’t eat for three meals straight.

On the sixth day of the war, both sides had gone crazy. Human professional soldiers had been exhausted, and civilians who had undergone basic training started to enter the battlefield. Due to their lack of experience, casualties increased, and if it wasn’t for their slight technological advantage, the base would have been breached entirely.

"Why hasn’t the Punishment Squad appeared these past few days?" Lu Fan was very frustrated. Not being able to release their accumulated stress was getting to everyone. Under the shadow of war, they all became a bit abnormal, with fights breaking out frequently. The military police were kept so busy they could hardly catch their breath. The base’s atmosphere had swung to two extremes: vast silence or constant fighting.

On the evening of the eighth day, the generals gathered together to execute their final plan.

"Let’s begin, for the victory of humanity!" Pang Tuoke leaned back in his chair, pinching his bridge of his nose. He had only slept seven hours in the past few days and was close to collapsing from fatigue.

"To achieve the maximum enemy casualty, we must feign defeat, allowing the beastmen into the base." One of the admirals spoke bitterly, imagining the damage that the invading beastmen would cause to the humans.

All the generals remained silent. The meeting room was filled with a suffocating silence.

"Proceed as planned. I will stay here to oversee the situation. You should all evacuate." Pang Tuoke took a deep breath and stood up, and the other generals immediately rose to their feet.

"I will fight alongside you until the last moment of my life!" A lieutenant colonel stood straight, saluting, his voice filled with determination. "Even if the beastmen enter the base, we will continue to lead the troops in resistance. Otherwise, they may sense something is amiss. Besides, we can’t let them easily take away every vehicle of supplies. We have to keep them all tied up within the base."

"I will fight with you until the last moment of my life!" Another lieutenant also stood up, snapped his heels together, and saluted promptly.

"I will fight with you until the last moment of life!" Bang, several generals stood up in unison, saluting, and gazing forward to express their intentions.

"It’s our honor to fight alongside you." Two admirals also saluted the highly respected General Pang Tuoke, an act of sincere respect, not just a perfunctory gesture.

The highest-ranking officials hesitated for a moment, but still reluctantly said the sentence.

Li Meilian and the others originally despised these higher-ranking officers who fled in face of battle, but now the scene unfolding shocked them.

"Am I wrong, or are they actually choosing to stay and face death?" Ruan Zhimin found it hard to accept, making him suspect that they didn’t fully understand the situation.

"I thought Allen was a good person, and Pang Tuoke was the villain. Who would have thought it would end like this?" Pang Meiqin pursed her lips, struggling with the revelation.

No need to argue further, the admirals and lieutenant generals didn’t give General Pang Tuoke the chance to rebuff. After their collective salute, they prepare to leave.

"Stop, don’t argue any further. I still need you to lead the humans to counterattack the beastmen and reclaim our lands." Pang Tuoke was deeply moved, resisting the tears welling in his eyes, he said, "I’m enough."

"Let’s decide who stays based on age. The future world belongs to the young." The bespectacled admiral smiled and said, "Don’t let us down."

"What should we do? If the admiral doesn’t leave, shouldn’t we stay too?" After her initial reverence for the generals, Li Meilian started to worry about herself.

Just as Tang Zheng was about to reply, he heard explosions and gunshots in the corridor. From the opposite side, six windows had elite soldiers rappelling down, sticking plastic explosives on the glass before continuing their descent.

Despite the conference room being made out of bulletproof glass, it couldn’t withstand the force of the explosion. It shattered instantly, then more soldiers rappelled down, aiming their muzzles into the room and initiating suppressing fire to capture the generals.

Tang Zheng fired without mercy, mowing down the soldiers. Gunshots in the corridor grew denser as dozens of chainsaw guns fired, drowning out even the sound of footsteps.

"It’s Lieutenant General Allen, he’s made his last-ditch effort." Pang Tuoke’s face turned grim, he couldn’t believe such a thing would happen at this final moment.

"Why didn’t you explain everything to him?" Pang Meiqin complained incessantly. This conflict was completely unnecessary.

"I did, but he thought we were trying to trick him again, forcing me to hand over command." Pang Tuoke sighed.

Allen’s stubbornness was well known, especially if his son had likely died for his ideals. Allen couldn’t step back, because if he agrees with and approves Pan Tuoke’s plan, it would mean denying the sacrifices made by the soldiers who died alongside him.

"I didn’t make any mistakes, I am fighting for the existence of humanity." Allen entered the building, his lips trembling. He had to capture the generals and take command as quickly as possible, to minimize the harm caused by this internal strife.

"Tang Zheng? Are you also doing this for selfish gains?" Marcus threw a bomb, leaving the security guards in a state of disarray.

"You’re mad, withdraw your subordinates immediately." The opposing firepower was intense, leaving no room for Tang Zheng to show mercy. It would be reckless to not act against such a threat to his team’s lives.

"We are fighting for the future of humanity!"

With Marcus’s shout, the assault soldiers screamed the same phrase while fearlessly charging forward.

"Damn it, they’re all maniacs." These guys are strapped with explosive, clearly prepared to lay down their lives if they don’t succeed.

The intensity of battle escalated immediately and there was no room for rational conversation. The only way to end this was for one side to fall. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, please vote and support at qidian.com. Your support is my biggest motivation.)
