Chapter 461: Chapter 19 No Human Rights for the Failures

The foreman was thrown to the ground, feeling as if his insides were shifting. He spits out blood, gritting his teeth against the pain, and closes his eyes to pretend he’s dead. But Tang Zheng saw through him, he straightaway kicked him in the face. The foreman lost a few teeth, his nose was broken. His crimson blood flowed incessantly like a faucet without a stopper.

"Please, no more," the foreman begged, fear permeating his face as he clutched his bleeding nose.

"Round up the other foremen for me, or I’ll beat you up," Tang Zheng was intent on creating conflict within their group.

The unlucky foreman didn’t want to get beaten up, so he immediately yelled at the workers he was in charge of and signaled his loyal followers to bring the other foremen over.

Being foremen, they were used to demonstrating their authority and they were familiar figures on the worksite. In less than a minute, sixteen unfortunate fellows were dragged over and tossed to the ground. They were all injured, their fractured bones caused them to scream and howl in agony, hoping to get attention from the patrolling soldiers to save them.

Tang Zheng found it strange that despite creating such chaos, no military personnel came over to clean up the mess. This was highly unusual.

Meanwhile, a general who had been watching the fight had a dark expression. He shouted orders to execute the troublemakers, but after his aide whispered something to him, he composed himself and left with his subordinates.

Reinforcing the defensive line, managing the workers, and distributing food – these were all benefits. Previously, these were the ’soup and water’ of Base 3’s personnel. Now that they had been displaced, the generals were eager for a redistribution. The foremen, who had already drawn their lines, naturally had to be dealt with. Tang Zheng was willing to do the dirty work and take the blame, which suited their intentions.

Once this was sorted out, they would also have to deal with Tang Zheng and the other newbies. They were too provocative. Lieutenant General Daipu detested them. After hearing the reports from his aides, he decided on their fate with just a single sentence.

"Find an excuse, get all the civilians who came yesterday transferred to the frontline to die. As for the women and children, deal with them similarly."

"Yes." The aide noted down the decision. For a general, getting rid of a few hundred civilians was simpler than squashing ants. For instance, making the women and children do the most strenuous work – they would all have run off within a few days, and then, you execute them as deserters. Then no one can find faults.

"Human rights? It’s wartime now, everything is for the survival of human beings!" Lieutenant General Daipu glanced at his aide was very satisfied with his attitude, then chuckled looking at the door, "Fortunately, nothing happened. Let’s enjoy ourselves."

The originally male aide suddenly behaved femininely; flying a seductive glance at Daipu, he swayed his hips and walked over.

Although Tang Zheng didn’t know why no one had come, it didn’t prevent him from defending his authority.

"Seven foremen are still missing. Your group is unreliable." Tang Zheng lifted his leg and aimed another kick at the foreman’s lungs. The guy immediately gasped for breath, coughed a few times, and cursed Tang Zheng for being crafty. He was adamant about putting him and others at odds.

"Right, bring out the rest of the foremen." Chu Baichuan didn’t bother to treat his wounds due to lack of medicine and bandages. He just stood drenched in blood beside the foreman who had once harassed him, crushing the man’s head under his foot. Being ’harassed’ by a man for the first time in his life made him feel disgusted as if he had swallowed a fly.

Blood-covered Gao Yu got up and charged over, grabbing the foreman who had started the trouble and started to beat him. He was still a bit dizzy. If not for his protective clothing, he would definitely be dead by now. Thinking about being stepped on by dozens of people made Gao Yu furious.

"I’ll show you what it’s like to be arrogant," the foreman initially managed to scream a few times. But after Gao Yu landed his fists on him repeatedly, blood flowed from the corners of his mouth and his head drooped to one side.

"Hey, he’s dead," Gao Wei managed to walk over, holding his pain, and patted Gao Yu’s shoulder, but Gao Yu pushed him away.

"Stop bothering me," Gao Yu glared with his red eyes, panting heavily. Discarding the dead body, he went to grab another foreman.

"Don’t kill me, I’ll do as you say," the foreman was terrified. He bellowed, ordering his followers to go catch the other foremen.

"Someone’s already dead," Dantai spat out a mouthful of blood. He swept a look across the construction site, where those with minor injuries had gotten up and hidden elsewhere. However, four to five hundred workers with serious injuries were still lying there. Over forty of them were completely motionless, even their chests were not heaving, clearly dead.

A mass beating only becomes more violent with time, it would be weird if it didn’t cost lives. Moreover, those seriously injured may not survive. The base was even running low on food, let alone medical supplies. No one would treat them for free.

"Those who can’t be caught now and those who don’t run are fools." One foreman was crying, his backer hadn’t appeared for so long, indicating something had gone wrong.

"I don’t care," Gao Yu grabbed the foreman’s clothes and dragged him over to the knocked-over soup. He spat blood on the ground and commanded, "Lick it. If you can’t finish it, you die."

The foreman hesitated for a moment, and was immediately met with more beatings. Gao Yu laughed maliciously as he watched the other foremen, dragging them over one by one.

In less than a minute, they all gave in. They stuck out their tongues to lick the soup that had already seeped into the ground, resulting in a mouthful of earthy taste. They didn’t dare to complain. The moment they frowned, Gao Yu beat them up again, so they all had to swallow the dirt and grit.

"Swallow it."

Tang Zheng had no interest in watching Gao Yu’s violence, nor did he prevent it. It was clear they couldn’t stay here anymore, so it was better to leave early and avoid any retaliation.

"Can you guys stop causing trouble? Every time we’re with you, our luck turns for the worse." A group of newbies helped each other walk past Tang Zheng. Zhang Hongtao complained with a troubled expression before leaving with the others.

"This guy is trying to sow discord between us and the newbies. After this, we’ll be ostracized." Dantai stared at Sun Bowen’s retreating figure with a cold smirk. Did he think he could survive just because he was the group leader? He must be dreaming.

"Who cares about a bunch of newbies who’ll die sooner or later?" Chu Baichuan also resented these folks. If he had seen a fellow townsman getting hit, he would have stepped in. However, these guys just stood by and made snide comments, it’s preferable to part ways and look out for ourselves.

With the turmoil, there was no way to have lunch. When Tang Zheng left, Gao Wei and the others were also quick to follow. Gao Yu grumpily pulled out a yellow stick from the foreman’s pocket, spat on his face, and chased after the others.

Once Tang Zheng had disappeared beyond the checkpoint, the taut atmosphere on the site suddenly relaxed. There was no choice - Tang Zheng’s bravado of single-handedly bulldozing his way threw was daunting. After all, as the ’Arrowhead’, he took on most offensive duties, with the others merely protecting his flanks. Except for Dantai’s psychic storm at the end, Tang Zheng alone had floored at least five hundred men. The soaked sleeves of his tracksuit attested to his fierceness.

Yet, what was most horrifying was that he remained unscathed. Given his current state, he could easily take on another thousand men. Executive workers who were merely there for the spectacle, however, hadn’t thought that far. They lunged at the yellow sticks scattered across the ground, resulting in another skirmish.

"A one-man massacre." A lieutenant put his telescope down, admiring genuinely. He had seen clearly - Tang Zheng had taken on at least a thousand men, none of whom had withstood more than a couple of hits from him, all thoroughly defeated.

The barracks were unsafe, so Tang Zheng and his team found a secluded spot, dug a hole, and buried their weapons. However, when they went back, they found that it had been robbed.

Gao Yu was cursing vehemently but helpless. Thankfully, they had their backpacks with them. If these were lost too, he was certain he would go mad.

"When can we use these again?" The use of the backpacks was restricted - Gao Yu took out a pack of ramen and couldn’t use it any further. But how was he supposed to get full with this little food?

"Tang Zheng, how come you got more than me?" Gao Yu, spotting Tang Zheng taking out two cans of beef, swallowed his saliva and chuckled, "Share some with me."

"Probably because I’ve survived more games." Tang Zheng tossed one of the cans to Chu Baichuan, "Give this to your wife."

An Ning, tugging at An Ping’s sleeve, was eyeing the canned beef eagerly. Being a growing child, two buns the size of baseballs were not nearly enough.

"Catch." Tang Zheng tossed the can to An Ning. Lu Fan and Qin Yan should still have plenty food left.

"Thank you, brother." An Ning snorted back some snot, grinning at Tang Zheng in gratitude. She then stuffed the can into her backpack, "I will save two-thirds for Lu Fan."

An Ning was a good kid.

An Ping stroked his younger brother’s head, very grateful for Tang Zheng’s generosity.

The base didn’t tolerate idlers. If they couldn’t work, they had to join the army. But Gao Yu opposed this and urged everyone to leave, not wanting to become cannon fodder.

"We don’t know what the mission target is this time, but it should have to do with killing a Beastman. Therefore, it would be easier to operate from within the military camp." Dantai guessed that the mission would probably involve killing a high-ranking Beastman or the queen. They had asked the local natives yesterday, and found out that the highest commander of the Beastman army was General Lamb, and the highest authority in Beastman society was the queen.

The survivors had no say in this matter - five minutes later, a lieutenant with some soldiers came to the barracks, informing them that they had been drafted.

"Go and see if Marcus can help." Gao Yu was very anxious. This was clearly a trap, and so he urged Tang Zheng to seek help.

Tang Zheng’s refusal was decisive. He didn’t like asking others for help. Besides, at the newbie registration point, he saw Kaia rushing in with her Hummer.

"I’m sorry, the colonel did not approve of the plan to add you to squad D." Kaia looked guilt-ridden. After delivering her message, she drove off, seemingly heavily preoccupied.

"Well, our last resort is also cut off." Gao Yu shrugged. If this wasn’t a conspiracy, he would be surprised. Just look here; many of them were seen in the fleet yesterday.

Shortly afterwards, four army trucks stopped at the registration point. When more than two hundred men and women got off the truck, Chu Baichuan gave a silently joyful growl.

"Look, it’s the Vietnamese monkeys." (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit qidian.com to vote for it. Your support means the world to me).
