The beastmen were quite stubborn. They were clearly at a disadvantage yet they did not give up. They clung onto the fleet like poisonous snakes, ready to strike at any given opportunity.

"It’s annoying. Uncle, let’s stop and get rid of them," Lu Fan and the rest could not do much against the armored vehicles due to the lack of heavy firepower. Engaging in close combat was a good idea, but the entire fleet would not follow such a command.

"There are two Hummers manned by native soldiers. Will they divulge Tang Zheng’s tactic of using a ’combat mate’ as bait?" Xu Biyun was more worried about this. After reaching the base, they would need a place to stay for sure. However, Tang Zheng’s actions could evidently get him court-martialed.

"Might as well kill them. If they repeat their usual technique, the beastmen might stop in order to attack them," Lu Fan suggested and immediately shook his head, "No, the civilians also saw it."

"These people are all deserters. They wouldn’t dare blabber, right?" Liu Yue didn’t want to simply echo others’ thoughts and was trying to integrate into the group.

"It’s troublesome if anyone speaks out. So, it’s still better if they die," Dantai gave Tang Zheng a glance and said, "If you are unable to do it, I will."

"What about the four truck drivers? Kill them too?" Tang Zheng’s retort left everyone speechless. There were too many people to kill. Although it wouldn’t be difficult, it would be too cruel. Memory erasers could be used, but then Tang Zheng’s achievements would be erased.

"Check your weapons, prepare for battle, and stop the car," Tang Zheng’s command vehicle was at the front. When he stopped, all the other vehicles were startled. The two beastman chariots didn’t expect them to have the guts to stop and counterattack, so they rushed within a ten-meter range before stopping. This combat strategy was familiar to the beastmen, who were stronger in close combat than humans. Grenades were thrown, followed by a ruthless attack.

In the next moment, they faced a severe blow. The last beastman to step out of the carriage was instantly killed by Tang Zheng, who crushed half of his body. If not for fear of scaring away the beastmen with excessive firepower, the first beastman would have had his head blown off. Lu Fan and others opened fire and the battle became intense.

The explosion of hand grenades raised dust and smoke, affecting the humans’ aim. After losing three of their own, the beastmen managed to close in, holding up their heavy rifles adorned with sharp bayonets and aiming at Tang Zheng’s chest.

Tang Zheng turned on the power, and the sharp chainsaw started whirring. It clashed with the beastman’s rifle. In a moment’s time, the beastman couldn’t withstand Tang Zheng’s strength. The bayonet was parried and the chainsaw cut through the bulletproof vest and into the beastman’s abdomen.

The second beastman wielded a dagger at Tang Zheng’s head and was killed by Qin Yan. Tang Zheng dodged, and the third beastman missed.

Tang Zheng took the opportunity to sever its right arm with the chainsaw, and then with a horizontal cut, he minced the beastman’s kidneys.

Gunshots echoed in the wilderness. Tang Zheng was hit. Although he wasn’t injured, the impact of the bullet caused some pain. Seeing that they couldn’t kill him, the beastmen decided to engage in hand-to-hand combat, targeting Tang Zheng’s head with their bayonets.

The beastman commander, carrying an ammunition box, hopped off and started shooting at Lu Fan and others with his three-barreled Gatling machine gun. This created a blockade on the battlefield, plunging Tang Zheng into the middle of eight beastmen alone.

Tang Zheng had no time to replace the empty ammunition clip. After killing one beastman with his chainsaw, three bayonets were thrust towards him, trapping him next to the corpses. He let go of the chainsaw and picked up the Dragonbone Curved Blade tied to his back, slashing it at a beastman’s waist. With a splatter of blood, the beastman was sliced into two halves. As soon as the two halves of the body fell to the ground, three more beastmen fell under his blade.

Thanks to these beastmen, the commander didn’t aim his gunfire at Tang Zheng. However, when Tang Zheng killed the last beastman, the Gatling gun started targeting him.

Tang Zheng rushed to the back of the command vehicle and found Lu Fan, Qin Yan and others crouching in a line. They were unable to raise their heads due to the enemy’s overwhelming firepower.

"Thank goodness the armor is thick enough," Lu Fan quipped. He glanced at Xu Biyun and the rest. "Use your powers then."

Xu Biyun placed her right hand on the ground, and as her life energy surged out, a stone giant three meters tall emerged. After shaking its head, it ran towards the commander with great momentum. However, before it could approach, its head and right arm were shot off, followed by half of its chest.

"Your summoned creature isn’t capable. Even as a meat shield, it’s not up to standard," Lu Fan was disappointed. This monster was simply for show; it was too fragile.

"The materials... Yes, the materials are not up to standard," Xu Biyun’s cheeks reddened as she finally found a suitable excuse.

"The bullets in this world should be specially made. If we switch to weapons from our world, it should be fine," Qin Yan couldn’t bear to see Xu Biyun in an awkward situation and spoke up for her.

"Hey, can we save the chit-chat for when we’re safe?" Dantai gave them a glance. Even though only one beastman commander remained, they should not be too relaxed.

"Have sympathy for them. We’ve been in the game for half a day and it’s the first time they feel they can control their own destiny," Tang Zheng took a piece of chocolate out of his pocket, unwrapped it, and, while listening to the sounds of the machine gun, put it in his mouth and started chewing it slowly. "Bi Yun, Liu Yue, it’s up to you two now."

The two girls nodded, aware that this was a test. Xu Biyun summoned her ’meat shield’ again to initiate an attack, while Liu Yue held the chainsaw gun, her eyes reddened, staring at the commander. Bang, Bang, she fired. The bullet went through the commander’s nose and came out from the back of his skull.

The gunshots abruptly halted, leaving silence on the wilderness highway, with only the lingering mist of blood and gunpowder in the air.

"Time to clean the battlefield." Lu Fan ran out with his arms spread wide, looking for corpses to loot.

"The driver’s seat is shot." Pang Meiqin looked at the ruined steering wheel, a little dismayed. The armored vehicle didn’t explode, but it was damaged.

"Let’s use the Beastman’s command vehicle." Tang Zheng didn’t see Li Muqing at first, but when he climbed into the carriage, he found the woman crouched in the corner, murmuring something to herself.

"Hey you, come out, we’re leaving." Upon hearing Tang Zheng’s shout, the professional woman finally came to her senses, hurriedly coming out and following him.

The fleet slowed down, waiting for Tang Zheng to catch up. When they saw a Beastman command vehicle, they sped up like frightened rabbits. It wasn’t until after they had darted a kilometer away that some of them realized there was a Hummer following them, apparently driven by a human.

Twenty armed soldiers stood by, watching the civilians. An officer in knee-high combat boots walked in front of them. Behind him were two soldiers carrying boxes. They shouted, ordering everyone to throw their items inside.

"After entering the camp, you are soldiers, so what you have to do is obey. This is the first thing you need to remember." The officer’s expression was serious, sternly admonishing the civilians.

"Other than clothes, watches, necklaces, mobile phones, and any metal items are not necessary to be kept."

"Why?" A civilian who had his ring taken away was discontented. "That’s my wedding ring."

"There is no why, only obedience, no questioning." The officer shouted angrily, giving him a cold glance. "This time, I’ll break routine and tell you why. It’s because the training is tough, and the army is afraid that you might swallow your gold and commit suicide."

"Bullshit, one can die by cutting wrists too." Being scolded like a dog, Lu Fan was quite upset, aimlessly doodling on the ground with his foot and muttered a complaint.

"Who’s talking? You?" The officer didn’t lower his voice because Lu Fan was a child. "The next time you interrupt, you must request permission."

Including the civilians from the other fleet, there were over six hundred people standing at the checkpoint, many of them women and children. At the sound of this harsh scolding, several of them burst into tears.

"Whoever’s crying does not eat tonight." The officer loosened the wind discipline mouthpiece around his neck and snuck a glance at the items in the box, a smirk appearing at the corner of his mouth. There were some valuable things.

"I’d like to give that guy a beating." Gao Yu only ran his mouth but did nothing.

"Name, age!" The officer walked in front of Qin Yan, looked her over, and imperiously asked while holding his chin high.

Qin Yan ignored him, which greatly infuriated him. Pointing at her firearms, he shouted, "Think just because you’ve got some power, you can be complacent? Every soldier here has killed more Beastmen than you have. You need training, lots more training."

"Now, hand over your rifle and run three laps around the base." The officer reprimanded Qin Yan, but when he saw her remain indifferent, he reached out to grab her arm, intending to yank her out of the line.

"Enough’s enough!" Tang Zheng leaned over and grabbed the officer’s wrist.

"Let go." Seeing another person challenging his authority, the officer became completely enraged. "You, step out, run ten laps and no food tomorrow."

"Who do you think you are?" Tang Zheng scoffed. If the entire camp’s ethos was like that, they might as well leave.

"Humph, I’m the captain of the military police team here, all camp discipline is under my jurisdiction." The officer arrogantly pointed to the rank insignia on his shoulder. He tried to look down on Tang Zheng but realized the man was actually taller than him, which only inflamed his ire. He lifted his leg and kicked out at Tang Zheng.

But Tang Zheng moved quicker. He viciously lifted his right foot and kicked the military police Team Leader squarely in the stomach. The officer screamed in pain and was flung away like a dirty rag.
