Chapter 453: Chapter 12 Massacre of the Newbie
Looking at the new Burmese recruits, their faces filled with panic, their hands held high in surrender, Gao Wei furrowed his brows, tossing this dilemma to Tang Zheng. After all, his decade-long military career had ingrained in him the noble rules of not killing those who had surrendered their weapons and treating captives well. Even though he had participated in the Trojan Horse Game, he still wasn’t capable of torturing or executing prisoners.
Pang Meiqin and Xu Biyun, holding their rifles, corralled the Burmese newbies together, ordering them all to squat down. Gao Yu, seeing an opportunity to vent his pent-up frustrations from being beaten up several times since the start of the game, immediately jumped in. Showing no restraint, he used the butt of his gun to whack any who didn’t obey, which soon got cries of pain echoing everywhere.
"Enough," Tang Zheng knew he had to eliminate these newbies since that’s the way in team battles. But upon seeing these bewildered individuals, who hadn’t even figured out what was going on before becoming captives, he found it hard to give the command. Among them were not only men but also a fair number of women and children, shaking in terror like frightened quails, also victims of Gao Yu’s brutal punishment.
"You’re the group leader, it’s your call," Dantai said, a faint smile playing on his lips. As expected, ordinary, untrained people were like this, unable to remain indifferent in the face of such slaughter.
"That bastard Trojan, if we keep playing this way, we’ll eventually turn into cold-blooded executioners," Qin Yan said, frustrated. She let the matter slide, leaving the difficult decisions to Tang Zheng.
"Hey, isn’t it great to have team battles full of newbies? So easy." Gao Yu glanced over the captives, disappointed that he couldn’t even pick out a single attractive woman.
"Don’t be foolish. If we lose, we’ll be the ones kneeling and suffering mistreatment," Pang Meiqin had long discarded her sympathy. As long as she could survive, killing women and children from other countries meant nothing to her.
"Mercy is a privilege only the victors can afford. Morality? Can you eat it?" Chu Baichuan said, patting Tang Zheng’s shoulder. "Being merciful to your enemies is being cruel to yourself. Even children can pull triggers."
"Dantai, you handle this. Try not to let them suffer too much," Tang Zheng handed the smart translator to Dantai. Marcus approached after seeing the conflict come to an end.
"Under the authority of the Special Assault Team Group Leader, I demand two Hummers and ten soldiers. Yes, those," Marcus said, pointing directly at Qin Yan and others, without bothering with small talk.
"Hey, get your hand off or I’ll break it," Xu Biyun threatened Marcus with her gun. She was now a loyal follower of Tang Zheng and wouldn’t let anyone challenge his authority.
Even though Chu Baichuan, the An brothers, and Gao Wei didn’t say anything, their hostile stares and fingers resting on their triggers made their stance clear.
"We don’t have any Hummers, but we do have people. However, you’ll need to pay with fuel," Tang Zheng said, eager to get rid of these guys. "Also, give me a map to the base."
"You’re just a civilian. Don’t overstep." Carmine, hot-tempered, pointed at Tang Zheng in fury. "There’s a large group of Beastman soldiers following us. We can’t waste time here."
His words caused an uproar among those civilians who had been eavesdropping. The atmosphere instantly tensed.
"If you disagree, then beat it. There’s no room for negotiation," Tang Zheng said, his gaze scanning over the civilians resting beside the roadbed whose clothes bore the style of local natives. It seemed only the Burmese were enemies here.
"We have no fuel, but we can give you a map," Dom halted Marcus, who was ready to start a fight. He pulled out a palm-sized electronic map from his chest and handed it to Tang Zheng.
"Just a civilian, do you even know how to use it?" Carmine mocked Tang Zheng, directing her disdain toward everyone.
"Thank you for confirming that this is the real deal," Tang Zheng said, tapping the touchscreen a few times to zoom in the view. Seeing the distances, he could roughly figure out the locations.
"What do you mean?" Carmine didn’t understand.
"It’s a military map, dummy," a female soldier walked over and extended her hand towards Tang Zheng. "I’m Kaia. I apologize for their rudeness. The red spots are Beastman bases, the green ones are human bases."
"Tang Zheng. Thank you," Tang Zheng shook Kaia’s hand lightly, then let go. "Two Hummers. Ten soldiers."
Realizing that the soldiers would probably refuse to obey him, Tang Zheng decided to send them away quickly instead. While he and Marcus were negotiating, Dantai and Zongqi had already begun communicating with the Burmese newbies through the translator, leading them toward the wilderness at the roadside.
Always one for nasty thrills, Gao Yu, wouldn’t miss out on such a spectacle. He even took out his mobile phone, preparing to record everything that was about to happen. Pang Meiqin followed, hoping that killing some newbies might grant her extra points.
"We won’t take care of you. Leave the fleet and fend for yourselves," Dantai said, his chainsaw gun held across his chest. He took off his backpack and pulled out three packs of cigarettes and a few bars of chocolate, all the supplies he could spare for the day.
"Don’t blame us. You struck first. Though I didn’t see it, our people who were in the car with you are dead, right?" Tang Zheng unwrapped the cigarettes and handed them out one by one to the huddled Burmese folks.
"It wasn’t us. It was those who fought you just now," a sly-looking man hastily clarified after accepting Dantai’s cigarettes, a smile plastered on his face. His statement was echoed by the others.
The Burmese newcomers found themselves at the mercy of the gunpoint, trapped in a vulnerable position. They had to handle the situation carefully, fearing to anger them.
"I get it." Dantai nodded, squatting in front of a little boy and stuffing a piece of chocolate into his hand. "Hungry, right?"
"Thank you." The boy’s mother was full of gratitude, thinking Dantai was a decent man, at least better than Tang Zheng, who had shot at them just moments ago.
"Adults and children, seventy-six in total." After distributing the supplies, Dantai lit up a cigarette for himself. A Burmese man quickly stepped forward, took out a lighter from his pocket. "Let me do that for you."
"Thanks." Dantai moved his cigarette closer, lit it, took a deep puff, and then exhaled a ring of smoke. "What are you guys planning to do?"
"We’re not sure, we’ll just take one step at a time."
"Wasn’t it supposed to be an execution? Dantai, are you planning to let them go?" Gao Yu muttered beside Pang Meiqin, his face full of discontent. "Boring."
Pang Meiqin held her rifle, she decided that no matter what Dantai did, she’d have to shoot some of these Burmese newbies— Xu Biyun had actually activated her Seed Ability, which was way too annoying.
"Well then, goodbye." Dantai threw the cigarette butt on the ground, crushed it a few times with his military boots. As he lifted his head, he had already pointed his chainsaw gun.
"Nice guy, goodbye..." The Burmese man began to express his admiration, but before he could bid farewell, he saw a dark hole of a muzzle pointed at him. As he realized he had been tricked, a bullet had already pierced his body and hit others behind him.
In the rapid-fire series of gunshots, bullets whistled and tore through the bodies of these Burmese civilians. Blood spattered and flesh flew. Due to the large number of people, a few lucky ones managed to escape, but they fell to the ground, turned into mangled corpses before making five steps, shot by Pang Meiqin.
Gao Yu was late in reacting. By the time he realized what was happening and fired his gun, there were only a dozen or so gasping newcomers groaning in a pool of blood.
"What the hell? Where’s my share?" Gao Yu complained and furiously fired at the corpses, filled with frustration.
Paying no attention to this guy’s corpse abuse, Dantai Zongqi slung his rifle over his shoulder and walked toward Tang Zheng. His steps over a severed arm left a trail of crimson bloody footprints on the ground.
The moment the gunshots sounded, the civilians reacted like terrified rabbits. They sprawled on the ground, their bodies couldn’t help but jerk when they saw it was Dantai who had opened fire and was massacring prisoners. The sight of that pool of blood and various body parts was too shocking. The wind of the wilderness blew, bringing with it a thin scent of blood that drifted into their nostrils, making them nauseous.
"This guy was giving candy to a kid just now, looking like a nice person, but I didn’t expect him to be so hard-hearted when he started his deed." Liu Qian mumbled, shocked by Dantai’s ruthlessness. The other newcomers also felt it was better to follow Tang Zheng. This guy was too cold-blooded.
"What are you doing? Slaughtering civilians?" Kaia couldn’t believe her eyes and quickly pulled out her handgun, pointing it at Dantai. "Don’t move."
As Kaia’s words fell, she discovered that the man named Tang Zheng had his gun pointed at her head. Marcus, Dom, and Carmine raised their rifles and aimed at Tang Zheng. At this close proximity, they could definitely blow his head off. Yet, everyone noticed that this young man did not have a shred of fear, and he even wore a smirk on the corner of his mouth.
"What do you plan to do with my subordinates?" Tang Zheng licked his dry lips.
Qin Yan and others also raised their muzzles, confronting Marcus and his group with no sign of backing down. The An siblings were no different.
"What kind of people are they?" Marcus and his men were given a shock. Especially when they saw that An Ning and Lu Fan were exceedingly fierce children, they could not help but feel a little discouraged. They could not suppress these people with their military ranks, and they were equally matched in terms of firepower.
"They started it first. If you don’t believe us, you can check. There are definitely bodies of our companions in that truck." Dantai explained indifferently, and gave Tang Zheng a signal, asking whether to exterminate them together.
At this point, the newcomers fled as far as they could. Tang Zheng’s group was too frightening; they dared to provoke anyone.
"Seeing is believing." Tang Zheng lowered his handgun. His decisive actions left Kaia speechless. She involuntarily turned her head to scrutinize this man.
Unlike Marcus’s tall, large and physically impressive build, his figure was tall and straight; his facial features were strong, full of Eastern restraint. But this man was certainly not harmless. Kaia believes that she would be subdued by him at the first sight of any resistance.
As Dantai said, there were over twenty corpses in the carriage the Burmese had passed. All of them were newcomers on Tang Zheng’s side. Their cause of death was not stray bullets because their death poses were bizarre. Some had crushing injuries on their heads due to blunt force trauma while others were stabbed to death. Overall, there was not a single intact place on these newcomers. It was clear that they had been tortured before they died. (To be continued.
