Chapter 451: Chapter 10: Escape from Death
The beastman army is organized in multiples of ten, with ten per squad and two hundred per platoon, these grenadiers were fiercely brave. Once they met, they used the ruins on either side as a cover and charged up fearlessly. Their arms were strong, a hand grenade could even be thrown over a distance of fifty meters, thus the fleet was suppressed.
"Luckily their aim isn’t good." The bullets whistled, hitting the vehicles’ armor, sparking many sparks. Tang Zheng realized that both beastman civilians and professional soldiers disliked aiming.
Tang Zheng guessed right, except for beastman snipers, common beastmen wouldn’t bother with a sight, not even mechanical sighting. Their combat style was to hold the rifles, while spraying bullets and charging, supplemented by grenade attacks. After approaching the enemy, they used daggers to pierce human hearts.
The dispersal charge of the grenadiers left the human tanks useless. Each cannon shot achieved marginal effects. Before they hit the ground, the beastmen had already charged past at great speed.
"Idiots, bombard the roadblocks, break out at full speed." Tang Zheng grabbed the sound pickup and roared, as the humans ended up being at an absolute disadvantage in terms of manpower. The human soldiers panicked and due to the vehicles being stuck in a queue, if the front was hindered, the rear would inevitably be dragged down, and the fleet’s speed immediately decreased.
Qin Yan’s Hummer was located at the tail end of the fleet. She was fortunate not to be trapped in the ambush circle. She watched the enemy with a telescope. They were two types of soldiers she had never seen before.
Suicide bomber slaves are a type of beastman dwarf less than one meter tall. They are good at crawling, some elites can even walk on vertical walls, however, they are also disposable items, because their attack method is to strap collision bombs to their bodies and launch suicide charges at enemies.
The fertility of beastmen is very high, but half of them are babies with low intelligence. To utilize waste, they can only train them as suicide bomber slaves or send them to mine. It’s thanks to these guys that if all beastmen were strong soldiers, humans wouldn’t need to resist. What’s the point of living without the advantage in single combat and outnumbering them?
The number of suicide bombing slaves is high, they are not even counted in the number of beastman armies. Each squad that goes on a mission, can’t say hello to humans without bringing three hundred for backup.
So when suicide bombing slaves launched a suicide charge that covered the sky and the earth, aside from Tang Zheng and his group, others weren’t surprised at all. What they could do was to sweep, keep sweeping, and try to blow them up as much as possible before getting close.
Boom, boom, boom, suicide bombing slaves were hit, immediately triggering the explosives full of their bodies, and immediately blew into a fireball. For a time, the hot waves rolled over the entire street and dust scattered everywhere.
Da-da-da, Dantai sprayed the suicide bombing slaves, doubting his certainty. These are all targets, the suicide bombing slaves are unsatisfactory, but their IQ is too low and they basically won’t dodge.
"Are all beastmen stupid? Even if the suicide bomber slaves are cannon fodder soldiers, they can’t be wasted like this, can they?" After hearing the driver’s temporary introduction, Tang Zheng felt sympathetic for the other party. Slaves should launch assaults, which would make the best use of their strengths and avoid their weakness.
"Hey, hey, which side are you on?" Dantai mocked and laughed, "Guess it’s probably because the intelligence of the beastmen isn’t enough or they would have beaten humans a long time ago."
"These guys remind me of those soldiers who charge with explosive packs, too fearless." Tang Zheng didn’t just mean suicide bomber slaves. But those howling and charging grenadiers. Their equipment was simple, they didn’t even have a set of bulletproof vests, they just wore short pants, exposing their bodies in combat, launching wave after wave of charges.
The standard weapon of a beastman grenadier is a shotgun and a large number of grenades. They are usually sent to the battlefield, dealing with fortresses, shelters and all kinds of armored vehicles. Compared with them, they at least learned to dodge. So, the grenades kept being tossed out from various ruins and thrown into the middle of the fleet, and the position was shifted before the human attack.
"I think of the suicide attacks by the Kamikaze Dare to Die Team." Dantai’s machine-gun was large-caliber. It effortlessly penetrated those walls and killed the grenadiers hidden behind them. Now, in the entire fleet, Dantai was the only one bold enough to show his head operating vehicle-mounted machine guns. The other gunmen on the Hummers either died or pulled back. No matter how much the soldiers cursed, they just held their heads and didn’t come out.
Tang Zheng was also shooting through the shot holes, he was getting more and more adept at using the chainsaw gun. Three minutes into the battle, the lead fleet finally crossed the roadblocks and broke through the ambush circle of beastman soldiers.
Seeing that she was nearly reached by the grenadiers, Pang Meiqin demonstrated her excellent driving skills this time. Turning the steering wheel sharply, she sprang out of the right side where there were fewer grenadiers. During the bumps, she surpassed the three Hummers in front and used them as a shield.
Xu Biyun bit her lip, not wanting to be a burden. She stood up and prepared to operate the machine gun, but was grabbed by Qin Yan.
"Shoot from the car window." Qin Yan reminded her, her hands already on thevehicle-mounted machine gun, beginning to shoot. Her body shook with the Hummer, but her hands steadily controlled the muzzle, killing the grenadiers and hard labor on the right side.
After familiarizing themselves with the opponent’s attack method, Lu Fan decisively lowered the half-piece of glass window, shot out the muzzle, and hit those fish that slipped through the net, which the machine gun could not ’care’ about. Xu Biyun and Liu Yue also joined the battle, so the Hummer demonstrated a strong combat power, fighting all the way through, and breaking a road hard, rushing towards Tang Zheng’s command vehicle.
Whether it was the civilians on the trucks or the soldiers in the Hummers, seeing the amazing performance of Qin Yan and the others, they were so surprised they couldn’t close their mouths. Especially when they discovered a little Lolita holding a chainsaw gun weighing more than twenty kilograms and shooting calmly and methodically, their eyeballs almost fell out.
"Follow them." Seeing this, Marcus quickly grabbed the sound pickup and ordered. The three Hummers that had just joined the fleet immediately broke away from the tail of the team and caught up with Qin Yan.
"The Hummer up front, you’ve been conscripted, do not enter the convoy, continue forward. I repeat, do not enter the convoy, keep moving." Marcus switched his radio to the public channel and began yelling orders.
"Are they talking about us?" Pang Meiqin glanced at the rearview mirror, "Who do they think they are?"
"Who cares?" Lu Fan changed his ammo clip, "These soldiers are a letdown, unbelievable."
"Sorry, I only take orders from Tang Zheng. You may request from my Group Leader." Pang Meiqin responded via sound pickup. At a time like this, she did not forget to cultivate a good impression.
"Ah, the captain got shut down." Dom, his arm wounded, shot single-handedly while mocking the captain.
"Who is Tang Zheng? Your subordinate has been conscripted by me." Marcus didn’t care about his friend’s mockery and yelled even more ferociously.
"Group Leader, they’re specifically asking for you." Gao Wei handed the sound pickup to Tang Zheng, who was shooting, "Sounds quite assertive."
"Are you planning to leave on your own? I’m sorry, but I’m not going to abandon these civilians and my subordinates." Tang Zheng spotted the four Hummers charging from the side, and understood their intentions. They wanted to use the fleet as bait to facilitate their escape.
"Fuck off!" Various insults immediately arose on the public channel. The soldiers didn’t care who this person was, and Tang Zheng’s words griped their hearts.
"We are undertaking an important mission and require new troops, hence your subordinates have been conscripted. You have no right to resist. I repeat, no right to resist, or else you will be accused of treason." Marcus actually admired Tang Zheng’s words. However, this rescue operation was also a decoy. The real purpose was to protect the intelligence carried by the Marcus squad. If their unit was wiped out, the losses would outweigh the gains. However, Marcus could not explain this to Tang Zheng.
"Well, you just shouted treason, let’s see what happens now." Gao Wei laughed as the beastman soldiers’ offensive was thwarted, putting him in a good mood.
"I don’t care who you are, leave the convoy immediately." Tang Zheng couldn’t shake off a bad feeling that these people might attract Beastmen toward them. Also, he still had an execution to carry out. With these elite soldiers present, taking action would not be easy.
"Now, I’m taking over this convoy in the name of being the Major of a Special Assault Team...." Marcus attempted to suppress Tang Zheng with his rank, but was cut off by a loud crash from the speakers. It was obvious that Tang Zheng had thrown the sound pickup away.
"That bastard! I should give him a good thrashing." Marcus was livid.
"Boss, what now?" Carmine wanted to leave the city at all costs. The thought of countless beastman squads pouring out from the city to hunt them down sent shivers down his spine.
"We’re almost out of the city. Let’s stay with them for now." Seeing the beastman offensive had come to a halt, Marcus gave up his intentions to break away from the convoy. It was a three-day drive from here to the rear base, and he had to use every resource within his reach.
"They’re not leaving. Hand me that ammunition box." Dantai couldn’t help but marvel at the rifle, which remained functional after such a long stint of firing.
"Let them do what they want." Ten minutes later, as the convoy safely left the city and entered the barren highway, Tang Zheng took a count. Counting out the three or four vehicles that had joined them halfway, there were four trucks, seven Hummers and three forest tanks left. The forest tanks had exhausted their ammunition. Half of the convoy’s combat strength was lost.
About three hours into the drive, one of the forest tanks’ engines started to smoke and break down. Fuel was at a critical level for two others. Tang Zheng hesitated as to whether to halt the convoy for a comprehensive rest. After all, the beastmen could be hot on their tail.
"There’s trouble, alert the convoy to stop, stop now!" Dantai Zongqi yelled, his face somber as he clambered into the carriage.
"What happened?" Gao Wei gestured at Tang Zheng, seeking advice on dealing with their driver who had overheard too much.
"Something’s wrong with the truck carrying the Burmese. Fresh blood is flowing out, and there’s more, I’ve seen a corpse - wearing our country’s uniform." Dantai took out Tang Zheng’s handgun, racked the slide to load it, and pointed it at the driver’s head, "I suspect the Burmese newbies have had a conflict with our newbies." (To be continued.
