Chapter 449: Chapter 8: Beastman Civilians and Power Seizure

"Haha, This is the machine gunner’s helmet, unfortunately, he was just killed by a beastman sniper, hope you’re luckier." The driver seemed to delight in his misfortune. He wanted to tell Tang Zheng, based on past casualty rates, to escape from the city, at least two machine gunners would normally die. Those two civilians were just substitutes, Gesang, who cared about every detail, would never allow his elite subordinates to be consumed in fleeing.

The soldiers responsible for guarding all gave a smug look at Tang Zheng, as if they were watching a dying catfish. Civilians couldn’t handle the position of machine gunner, it was either a waste of bullets since they couldn’t suppress the enemy, or a waste of elite soldiers. So, Tang Zheng, who had some military training, was just right.

Tang Zheng discarded the helmet with a bullet hole, walked towards the passenger side, suddenly reached into the half-open bulletproof glass window, grabbed the driver’s collar, and violently pulled him over.

Thud. The driver’s head hit the car wall, his vision blackened, and he passed out.

"Thanks for your helmet." Tang Zheng buckled the helmet on his head, casually jumped on the command vehicle, and started messing with the machine gun.

The soldiers stared at this arrogant civilian, shocked and speechless.

"Damn it, my driver passed out." Gesang raged, just about to blow his top, when he saw Tang Zheng back at the driver’s side. He grabbed his collar again, ferociously slapping him back and forth a dozen times.

A broken tooth buzzed out, hitting the bulletproof glass. The corner of the unfortunate driver’s mouth split open.

The six elite soldiers in the command vehicle stared at Tang Zheng beating the driver, completely dumbfounded. They had never seen such a fierce man before. But even if he didn’t die, Gesang would make life difficult for him, his future was ruined.

"Move." The driver woke up, still groggy. Gesang cursed irritably and ordered him to drive.

As the command vehicle moved, the entire fleet began to advance.

Tang Zheng held the machine gun, observing the surrounding buildings. He swept his gaze over every possible sniper hiding place. The bulletproof vest on his body probably weighed around thirty pounds. It had a few bullet marks on it, but none had penetrated, which somewhat reassured him.

The entire fleet consisted of nine trucks, twelve armored Humvees, and seven forest tanks. They seemed to want to leave the city as soon as possible, the speed was exceptionally fast. Tang Zheng noticed the gunmen on the vehicle-mounted machine guns were also temporarily recruited civilians. Their faces underneath their helmets were filled with fear.

Tang Zheng remembered the Hummer that Qin Yan was riding in.

Gao Wei and Dantai each held a chainsaw gun, getting familiar with its operation. It was the standard weapon of the United Government Army soldiers weighing twenty-five pounds, also a heavy weapon. The most notable feature was the removal of the bayonet at the bottom of the muzzle, replaced by a mobile carbon fiber chainsaw.

"There are obstacles ahead." After making a turn, the leading Humvee reported the road conditions via radio, "The Beastmen have blocked the retreat route."

"Have the tank bombard the roadblocks, quick." Gesang roars, grabbing the sound pickup to notify the entire fleet, "Enemy attack, all units be alert, enemy attack."

The fleet was retreating the same way they came. Since there were roadblocks, it implied that the Beastmen had set up an ambush here. With the humans’ retreat, the city was occupied by the Beastmen. Gesang’s fleet didn’t even have a military map of the city. He could only retreat the same way they came. If they got lost, it meant death.

Tang Zheng also considered this, so his focus was even more concentrated. As soon as he saw a Beastman with a gun appear on the rooftop to the right, he immediately aimed the gun muzzle and pulled the trigger.

The large-caliber bullets whistled past, scattering the concrete wall. The Beastman was blasted in half by the bullets.

The gunfire kicked off the start of the battle. The Beastmen appeared as if they came out from the ground, filling the view instantly, and attacking the fleet with various automatic weapons.

Whiz, the bullets swirled past Tang Zheng, filled with the scent of death, hitting the armor, making a tinkling sound.

Tang Zheng rotated the machine gun, sweeping gunfire across the buildings on both sides of the street. Other vehicle-mounted machine guns also started firing, but their accuracy was too poor, it didn’t help to relieve any pressure off Tang Zheng.

"Don’t panic, these are Beastman civilians, we can break through." Gesang tried to stabilize the fleet’s focus through the radio. The hum of the electric current and the noise from the loudspeaker made the tension even more intense.

The soldiers in the command vehicles pointed their gun barrels out of the muzzle and attacked the civilians. Tang Zheng saw a small beast child over a meter long carrying an RPG anti-tank missile appear at the street corner. He was shot and half of his upper body was blasted apart, with his viscera and blood strewn all over the place.

A beastwoman picked up the RPG, screaming in a language that humans could not understand. She was about to pull the trigger when she was shot and fell into a pool of blood.

As expected, they were civilians. Although they initially caused some panic to the fleet, they were quickly suppressed. However, casualties started to occur in the fleet, especially the nine trucks that only had simple reinforcements. Some bullets penetrated the roof, injuring the civilians inside.

"Dispose of the injured and the dead unlucky bastards." Gesang gave the order again. Apart from lightening the weight of the truck, throwing the bodies would delay the Beastmen. Besides, there weren’t enough medical supplies at the base behind. The injured people wouldn’t escape death even if they went back.

In front of the command vehicle were three trucks. Upon hearing the order, the civilians hesitated not at all, immediately throwing the bodies from either side. Indeed, upon sighting ’food’, some famished Beastmen rushed out from the buildings on either side direly heading to the bodies.

Tang Zheng fired; bullets pierced through the Beastmen, splattering mud pillars on the ground behind their bodies. It was no different from massacre. He wouldn’t miss these living targets.

Wherever the command vehicle passed, it completely cleared the streets on both sides. By every human corpse laid several Beastman bodies.

"Good shooting." Gesang complimented Tang Zheng. He didn’t expect the recruited cannon fodder to have such talent; it was a nice surprise.

Tang Zheng spat, barely suppressing the urge to shoot down Gesang. He glanced behind, some Beastmen who had obtained human corpses ceased their attack, settling down to consume their meals on the spot. The scene was unimaginably bloody.

Five Beastman civilians, each with a Molotov cocktail in hand, rushed out from the buildings on either side, headed straight to the tank at the front of the fleet. They instantly attracted attention from the entire firepower, quickly got shot down but during their feint attack, an RPG rocket was fired, hitting the tank’s tracks, successfully destroying it. The gunner just opened the hatch to escape when a bullet hit him in the chest, he fell. The driver and the captain also jumped out, helped him up, and they ran together.

"Don’t stop, bypass the tank." Gesang shouted, ordering the leading Humvee to move on, not caring about the left behind.

Ding, a bullet hit the armor next to Tang Zheng, sparking a streak of Mars. It was a sniper. In a chaotic environment, Tang Zheng couldn’t locate the enemy. He could only pray that the shooter would swiftly change his target, but this time, Lady Luck was not on his side.

With the vehicle-mounted machine gun, Tang Zheng suppressed most of the Beastman civilians. Naturally, he became a priority target. Bullets whizzed at him, making him unable to lift his head. He had no choice but to hide temporarily in the carriage.

"Are you hit?" Gesang was startled. Seeing Tang Zheng was okay, he instantly became enraged. He pulled out his pistol, pointing it at Tang Zheng’s temples, shouting severely, "Go out and shoot for me or you will die."

"There are too many snipers; we will fight back when the command vehicle has passed them." Tang Zheng checked the Beastman’s rifle to ensure it could fire at any time. The others also countered through bullet holes, but the angle was too small to attack the enemies in the buildings.

"No way. what if they shoot RPGs? Operate the machine gun immediately." Gesang didn’t give Tang Zheng a chance to explain, sprayed saliva, and stuck the muzzle to Tang Zheng’s head.

"Alright." Tang Zheng looked helpless as if to compromise. Just as the radio was calling Gesang again, the moment he removed the gun away intending to command the fleet, Tang Zheng counterattacked. He stretched out his left hand, grabbing Gesang’s wrist holding the gun, brutally breaking it. His right hand made a fist and hit hard on his temples.

Gesang’s right eyeball was burst open; his cheekbone was directly smashed; half of his face collapsed. Then Tang Zheng grabbed the clothes on his chest with his left hand, placing him directly in front, his right hand holding the gun aloft, firing at the six human soldiers in the carriage.

They never thought that Tang Zheng would attack Gesang. However, they reacted quickly. The moment Tang Zheng made a move, they withdrew their muzzles from the bullet holes, aiming at him. Seeing Captain Gesang being used as a meat shield, they dared not to shoot.

"Dodge." Tang Zheng had no worries; he swiped out all the bullets in the ammo clip. Gao Wei and Dantai reacted fast enough, sticking closely to the wall. They did not help unnecessarily as they knew Tang Zheng would handle them.

Being attacked at close range, even in bulletproof vests, couldn’t save these human soldiers’ lives. The entire carriage was covered with bodies, blood was everywhere.

The driver, who had been slapped by Tang Zheng, stomped on the brakes and rushed to pull out his pistol. However, he got his face smashed directly by the back of Tang Zheng’s gun; blood immediately flowed out from his nose.

"Drive." Tang Zheng would have killed him already, if not for the fact he was needed to drive.

"Don’t kill me." The driver was scared; his voice twisted into an eight-degree arc. He hit the accelerator pedal too hard, causing the command vehicle to jerk forward before stalling again.

The shutdown of the command vehicle caused the entire fleet to stop. It certainly provided Beastman civilians the opportunity to attack. In an instant, the injuries and death toll increased dramatically. A truck was hit by three RPG missiles. It exploded into a fireball, and the hundreds of people in the carriage instantly turned into flaming bodies. They were thrown into the sky and then fell to the ground with a thud; it was pitifully tragic.

"Old Gao, keep an eye on him." Tang Zheng wanted to operate the machine gun again, but Dantai took a step ahead and crawled up. The sound of the machine gun roaring restarted, and the bullet casings ejected making a tingling sound falling on the street.

"Move on." Tang Zheng picked up the sound pickup and shouted twice, "Don’t stop."

"Where’s the captain?" As soon as they heard the voice change, someone immediately raised a question.

"The captain was hit in the neck by a stray bullet and has passed out. I’m temporarily in command." Tang Zheng shouted, firmly suppressing them with his aura, "The first and second tank in the line, bombard all positions where enemies may be hiding." (To be continued.
