Chapter 428: Chapter 43 - Return (Happy New Year Everyone!)_3
Zhang Bingcheng saw things escalate and anxiously started to retreat. Gao Hui was hesitant to kill, but Tang Zheng had already drawn his M1911 from its holster strapped around his calf and shot through his leg.
Gunfire erupted, leading to utter chaos on the site. The wastelanders who were spectating, intending to fish in troubled waters, didn’t realize how out of control the situation would get. Within less than two minutes, the unfortunate souls at the front had fallen, all reduced to severed limbs as blood soaked the soil.
"Old Gao, get a meat shield." Tang Zheng held the strategist in front of him without stopping Yin Shangwu’s rampage. He didn’t have any particular sympathy for these hecklers.
"Tang Zheng, someone’s going to start the armored vehicle." Old Gao ducked and shot at the soldiers and adventurers trying to escape or fight back, but there were too many of them to handle.
Tang Zheng took a glance at the strategist in his grip, shot through both of his hands, then thrust him towards Gao Wei and set off to chase the fleeing soldiers.
Zhang Bingcheng’s face was deathly pale from the pain. He hadn’t crawled many paces when he saw a few pairs of children’s calves appear in front of his eyes. Before he could properly lift his head, a rock landed from nowhere and hit the back of his head. Blood splattered and rushed down his forehead, covering his eyes.
"Enough, take the things."
Zhang Bingcheng, steadily losing consciousness, heard the excited shouts of the children. It felt as if he was stripped bare, not even a piece of underwear left on him.
Gao Wei watched a group of seven- or eight-year-old children kill Zhang Bingcheng and run off with all his belongings towards the next wounded victim. He was terrified. The adults, fearing collateral damage, had all fled. Yet over a hundred children were fighting for their tomorrow’s meals. The soldiers’ discarded equipment was popular loot, which led to several brawls amongst the kids.
Seeing children getting their throats sliced open by shards of glass, and impaled by sharpened iron rods and wooden sticks caused Gao Wei to twitch at the corner of his mouth. It was unimaginable; these were children of elementary school age in the modern world, now caught in bloody fights with blood-shot eyes.
"Stop fretting, want to die?" Yin Shangwu, supporting Chu Baichuan’s wife with one hand, went after Tang Zheng. They needed a vehicle right now.
The combat readiness of these soldiers was not low, actually knowing how to coordinate a retreat. But up against Tang Zheng’s overwhelming firepower, it did little good.
After killing a soldier, Tang Zheng stood next to an elongated military Hummer that had added steel plating. Opening the door, he saw a black power armor lying inside. The design was similar to Hellfire, but it had a thicker armor and a more diverse array of weapons. Next to it was a pile of ammunition.
As the strategist naturally had a means to protect his own life. Unfortunately, he encountered Tang Zheng who played by unconventional rules and didn’t even give him the chance to put on his Iron Tyrant III suit.
"What the hell are you doing?" Chu Baichuan, who had been out hunting, saw the fleeing crowd. Fearing his wife would be in danger, he abandoned his work and ran back, just in time to see Tang Zheng and the others.
"Leave my wife alone." Chu Baichuan had hardly caught his breath when he pointed his rifle at Yin Shangwu. Seeing his wife wrapped in a thin coat, shivering from the cold, whilst the exposed skin on her arm bleeding profusely, he was furious.
"No, they saved me." She was so weak that she could hardly articulate, "It was... the council."
"Damn these bastards." Chu Baichuan cursed, immediately rushing to his wife’s side.
"The baby!" The woman, who had endured so many hardships and remained strong, suddenly broke down in tears once she saw her husband. "Our baby... our baby is gone."
"We can have another baby, as long as you’re alive." Chu Baichuan held his wife, comforting her, then suddenly turned to Tang Zheng, "Please, lend me just nine thousand bottle caps. I swear, I’ll give my life to repay."
"No need." Tang Zheng handed over twenty thousand bottle caps, "You guys go back to your room now, Trojan can heal her, including the baby."
After watching the deeply in love couple teleport away, Yin Shangwu sighed, "Let’s not mention the two hundred base points. If Trojan indeed heals her, how do you think she will survive in this game as a pregnant woman? Will there be repeated miscarriages and loss of the baby?"
Tang Zheng felt incredibly frustrated. Trojan was really an annoying thing.
"Stop wasting time, let’s go find Du Peng." Old Gao recently had been busy with assisting Tang Zheng that he hadn’t returned home for days and was unaware of Du Peng’s situation. He was very worried.
An armored car fleet was driving down the street, followed by a large number of fully armed infantrymen. The council had shown its hand after receiving the news.
"Seems our friends here don’t want us to leave." Yin Shangwu crawled into the driver’s seat of the Hummer. "Tang Zheng, you’re in charge of the vehicle-mounted machine gun."
"That’s a high-risk job." Although Tang Zheng complained, he swiftly opened the door and climbed up. He then leaned out from the roof, grabbed the M2 heavy machine gun mounted on the Hummer, pulled the cocking handle, and opened fire on the incoming fleet.
The muzzle flame of the gun over a meter long flared as .50 caliber bullets were scattered like a storm. The troop carrier was instantly hit, the infantry carried inside were mowed down like wheat stalks, and the inertia from the bullets sent bits of flesh and severed limbs flying.
The armored car fleet was pinned down, a few attempted to use vehicle-mounted machine guns to fight back, but were shot down by Gao Wei. As soon as replacements moved in, they were knocked down again.
Yin Shangwu swiftly reversed the car and swerved to change direction, planning to leave through another street.
"No need, just blast through." Tang Zheng was slightly rocked due to the movement of the car but his hands held fast to the M2 machine gun, firing at the council’s soldiers.
"RPG." Gao Wei took cover within the carriage, firing through the window. Bullets sizzled past him, and some even struck the bulletproof glass, spider webbing it and causing him to break out in a cold sweat. Especially when he saw two rocket-propelled grenades flying towards them, trailing flames. He immediately shouted out a warning.
Yin Shangwu jerked the steering wheel, narrowly avoiding the RPGs. The explosion occurred near their vehicle, causing a shock wave that kicked up the soil. Mud splatters hit the vehicle like raindrops.
"Iron Tyrants incoming." Gao Wei saw twelve Iron Tyrants soaring at low altitudes towards them. He didn’t feel any regret about choosing to stay back to find Du Peng. He stole a glance at Tang Zheng and Yin Shangwu’s faces. The two didn’t show any issue or complaint, which touched him deeply. (To be continued.
