Chapter 420: Chapter 41: Escape, Reduction of Staff and Ambush

After failing to pursue Qin Yan, Gao Yu shifted his focus to Li Meilian. However, he didn’t have time to take care of her either, being the first to run away, with Dantai and Tan Hui following closely behind.

With a lack of effective illumination, more than twenty young soldiers were all running in the darkness. Due to the extended distance, those at the rear couldn’t even use the light from others’ flashlights to see the path, and combined with the corpses of ghouls killed by Tang Zheng laying on the ground, they kept falling and injuring themselves. Although they persisted, the team was being increasingly stretched out.

The five remaining female models were not faring any better. Only Liu Yue, who was cared for by Tang Zheng, was a bit more comfortable. Watching them constantly trip and fall, Lu Fan sighed and took out three tactical flashlights, handing them to Li Meilian.

"That’s all we have." Little Lolita was also helpless, who would carry so many lights around when idle?

"Give me one." Liu Qian roared, seeing the light in Wang Yu’s hand, she tried to snatch it but was pushed away.

"What’s with the noise? Is the chaos not enough for you?" Tang Zheng had to multitask, running and firing back, he was almost worn out. These women were blocking his way, preventing him from increasing his speed.

Gunshots and screams of the young soldiers came from the front, as they too were under attack. The models slowed down, not wanting to run straight into the arms of the ghouls.

"If you don’t want to run, just wait here to die." Gao Wei saw a ghoul leader chasing from behind and didn’t want to play the hero. He cursed and pushed Liu Qian on the back, running frantically, after dashing about ten meters, he saw a young soldier wrestling with a ghoul.

Gao Wei directed his gun muzzle, but didn’t pull the trigger, he ran past. Under the impact of fast-paced running and poor visibility, he was not sure of his shot. He might end up shooting a young soldier, and regarding stopping to help, the old soldier wasn’t prepared to sacrifice for these foreigners.

As the female models grit their teeth and ran, it was Han Mei’s turn when, crazily enough, the ghoul left the young soldier and pounced on her. The woman was scared pale, instinctively hiding close to a frosted glass wall, and crashed into it with a hard thud.

"Save me." Han Mei’s plea immediately turned into a hysterical scream as the ghoul successfully latched onto her head.

Tang Zheng abruptly stopped, drawing the M1911A1 from the holster on his leg with his left hand and raising it. As Lu Fan’s flashlight pointed towards them, he fired.

With a bang, the bullet blew up the ghoul’s head, with the foul-smelling blood and brain pulp splattering over half of Han Mei’s body, covering her face.

"Run!" Tang Zheng’s right hand held the mighty Thunderstorm rifle. If he fired that, Han Mei would be shot dead too.

Suppressing her nausea, Han Mei continued running. Hearing the roar from behind, she maliciously grabbed her chest-slung rifle, aiming at the leg of a young soldier, and pulled the trigger. She needed a scapegoat to buy her some time.

Half of Hae Mei’s ammo wasn’t wasted, the young soldiers never expected an attack from their own side. The pain from the broken leg instantly spread up the spine to the brain and he fell to the ground screaming.

"Are you crazy, uncle?" Lu Fan, who had been watching the back, saw this scene and quickly alerted Tang Zheng.

As soon as Tang Zheng heard the gunshots, he had a rough idea, half-turned back, and took a shot at the young soldiers. He originally aimed at his shoulder, but with an awkward position and a dark environment, he could only take the most reliable approach, killing him outright.

The young soldier tried to aim his AN94 at Han Mei, but before he could pull the trigger, he was shot dead by Tang Zheng.

"Why did you kill him?" Han Mei stepped into the blood-soaked path and hastily questioned, ghouls didn’t care about the dead scapegoat.

"Nonsense. If he didn’t die, you would. Please think before you act next time." Lu Fan was about to explode. Shooting an unarmed person as cannon fodder? Wasn’t this a death wish?

"We have to leave quickly!" Tang Zheng estimated that some of the ghouls had now become intelligent. They couldn’t deal with the radiation scorpions, so they baited them into the warehouse. After both sides suffered losses, they swooped in to reap the rewards, which was confirmed by the ghoul that pounced and killed the last person in their group.

Lu Fan pulled out over a dozen hand grenades, pulled the pins and threw them on the ground. Hence, explosions echoed through the corridor behind them, causing numerous glass walls to shatter from the explosive force.

The ghouls were protecting their offspring, so they attacked frenziedly, intending to drive Tang Zheng and his party away. The young soldiers didn’t collaborate, and if they were caught by the ghouls, death was their only option. After losing another dozen or so men, they finally banded together, or none of them would be able to escape.

Gao Yu led the run, praying to all the deities. The young man had good reflexes and managed to skilfully dodge the ghouls’ attack. Thanks to Dantai’s superb shooting support, he had actually held on for five minutes. However, his good luck had just about run out.

After passing through a corridor washed with blood and flesh, Gao Yu suddenly found more than twenty ghouls lying in wait outside. Just as he was about to open fire, he was overwhelmed by them.

When Dantai, dragging a panting Tan Hui, caught up, they saw Gao Yu curling up on the ground, his hands on his head, struggling to shake off the ghouls. Dantai immediately opened fire.
