Chapter 413: 38 Bloodstained Shelter_3

"Stop, that’s it." After running for twenty minutes, Dantai shouted to halt, counted the remaining people, realized that seven teenagers were missing. The remaining ones didn’t want to stay here either, they tried to push forward. After getting a stern look from him, they calmed down.

Tang Zheng released Lu Fan and put down the female model he was carrying on his back. Little Lolita immediately directed the flashlight onto them.

"She’s gone." Gao Yu checked her neck and sighed. The unnamed female model’s eyes were cloudy, her pulse had stopped.

Tang Zheng pushed Gao Yu aside, squatted down, ripped off the woman’s shirt, and began doing chest compressions through her protective clothing on, pressing hard on her moderately full chest.

"She was hit in the chest by a stray bullet and killed," Li Meilian considered her to be foolish. In that kind of situation, she should have ducked down right away and increased her chances of survival by at least twenty percent.

Tang Zheng could feel the female model’s body temperature rapidly dissipating. But nothing could be done, as her heartbeat had stopped.

"Grigory is dead," Little Pavel murmured somberly in front of his father. "Pavel’s right arm is injured, and only fifty-two of the junior soldiers are left."

"The ghouls have adapted to the darkness, but humans can’t. Add in the lack of lighting and crowded space, such casualties are not surprising." Old Pavel suggested to Tang Zheng. "Let’s get out of here, more people will die if we continue."

The junior soldiers felt dispirited too.

"Whatever supplies we find, we only take twenty percent, the rest you can divide equally among yourselves," Tang Zheng placed the corpse of the dead female model to one side and addressed the Wastelanders. "Isn’t it for a mouthful of food that you’re struggling? If this haul turns out good, you can enjoy the rest of your life."

The Wastelanders hesitated, while Li Meilian and Liu Qian tugged at Tang Zheng’s arm, "If you leave her here, she will be devoured."

"What’s the use of showing kindness to the dead? You might as well carry her." Tan Hui’s comment left the two female models speechless, not daring to retort.

"We’re in," The Wastelanders made their decision quickly, especially the junior soldiers who only had their lives at stake, they agreed straight away.

"Let’s go." No sooner had Tang Zheng finished speaking than light footsteps sounded behind him in the passageway. The ghouls were in pursuit once again.

"These persistent monsters," Gao Yu cursed and urged everyone to speed up.

Everyone followed the team closely, fearing that if they slow down for a moment, they’ll be left behind. As they went deeper, the air became increasingly turbid, and the dust stirred by their footsteps made it hard not to cough or sneeze.

Upon seeing the gate in front of them, the vanguard instinctively stopped. After suffering so many casualties, anyone would inevitably have second thoughts about rushing headlong into danger.

Tang Zheng didn’t force the junior soldiers, he was the first to enter the gate, followed closely by Lu Fan.

"Hmph, if you perform well, maybe uncle will give you some supplies. If you keep being cowards, even Dantai might start killing people," The little Lolita noticed that the remaining seventeen adult Wastelanders, led by Old Pavel, had started to become evasive.

After entering the gate, a passageway appeared in sight, wide enough for five T-90 tanks to drive side by side. On either side were evenly spaced oval plastic doors, which appeared intact despite not having been maintained for several decades.

"This is the warehouse, right?" Pavel whistled and ran up to one of the large doors. Through the bulletproof glass window above, he saw the supplies stored inside.

The room was large, filled with many wooden boxes covered with green canvas. Pavel couldn’t wait, he hit the door with his shoulder. Other Wastelanders were visibly elated as well. Groups of well acquainted ones gathered around the door, forcefully hitting it, trying to lay claim to it before anyone else.

For a while, the quiet warehouse was filled with the banging noises. Some even fired guns at the plastic doors. Tang Zheng was furious, he walked over and knocked Pavel off his feet.

"Are you trying to bring all the ghouls here? Be quiet!" Tang Zheng growled, finally silencing everyone’s complaints.

"There’s a numeric keypad on the wall. Clearly, you need a password to open the warehouse doors." Gao Yu mocked as he randomly pressed the keys. "Oh, it’s out of power."

"Are you looking for a fight?" One of the Wastelanders stared angrily at Gao Yu, ready to beat him because he was getting anxious about the inaccessible supplies.

"Enough, I’ll say it one more time, I’ll kill anyone who causes trouble. Don’t act without my orders," Tang Zheng walked over to one of the doors and inspected its thickness.

"Group leader, where is your power armor? Help us open it," Sholokhov pleaded with Tang Zheng. "With spoils in sight, everyone will be motivated to fight harder."

"Wait," Tang Zheng stepped out of the gate and when he returned, he had donned the Hellfire. He delivered two punches at a door. It didn’t budge apart from shedding some dust.

"Use the rocket launcher," Gao Yu said eying the armor on Tang Zheng, his jealousy apparent. "Where did you get this from? I haven’t seen it on the Trojan List."

"Shut up," Lu Fan scolded and kicked him, for speaking without thinking.

"Stand back," not wanting to waste time, Tang Zheng used his chest-mounted energy beam cannon on the door. The sturdy plastic door didn’t fly off, but it did melt into a small hole, it was the breakthrough they needed.

Pavel didn’t wait for the opening to cool, dug his way in, and promptly pulled off the canvas revealing stacks of ammunition boxes.

"We’ve hit the jackpot. These are AN94 rifles," Pavel glanced at the Russian words on the crate and a grin spread on his face. He couldn’t find a crowbar to pry it open, so he simply started peeling it off with his hands.

Tang Zheng grabbed a box and ripped the lid off with brute force. Five firearms wrapped in wax paper lay silently inside. Old Pavel couldn’t wait, he grabbed a gun and tore off the wrapping, the yellow oil stuck to his hands didn’t bother him as he worked the charging handle of the gun, inspecting the firearm gleefully.

"Group leader, this crate has bullets," a junior soldier brought a box and pointed at the Russian words on it, hoping Tang Zheng could help him open it.

Tang Zheng smashed the top of the box with his fist, causing it to crumble. He grabbed a pack of bullets wrapped in parchment, shook it open and the shiny bullets fell onto the ground with a clink.

"After all these years, can these still be used?" Dantai picked up a bullet, laughing. "Hah! There’s no ballooning or rusting, it has been stored well!"

"Considering how dry the environment is, the gunpowder should be fine. But there’s bound to be some duds," Gao Yu searched around, he didn’t understand Russian and was now agitated. "What guns are kept here? Lu Fan, help me find a machine gun."
