Chapter 400: Chapter 34: Hellfire versus Iron Tyrant_2
The wasteland dwellers observing from a distance were dumbstruck at the audacity the pair showed.
Having noticed the mercenaries’ faltering combat will, Tang Zheng guessed he might have hit the jackpot and quickly tried to sow discord among them.
"Is your life worth as much as a bar that isn’t yours?" Tang Zheng shouted and threw a hand grenade. There was a thunderous explosion, and the area was soon filled with smoke.
Some of the mercenaries scattered while others stood their ground. But after a minute, they too broke ranks, because the juvenile soldiers had regrouped at point B1 and were cutting them off from retreat.
Street gunfire soon ceased, and Tang Zheng had the situation under control. Lu Fan led a group of young soldiers, blocking the bar entrance without chasing the fleeing mercenaries and setting up a machine gun.
"Come out, or we will kill all those inside in three minutes." Lu Fan yelled into a borrowed megaphone at the bar, tossing a hand grenade inside for added intimidation.
"Uncle, seventeen children died." Lu Fan’s face fell at the thought of the kids she’d just had dinner with now lying dead.
"You six, bring back the bodies of our fallen for burial." Tang Zheng delegated, as he had a lot of things to handle.
"Is something wrong?" Lu Fan noticed a change in Tang Zheng’s expression.
"Why hasn’t the Steel Council arrived even after the fighting has stopped?" Tang Zheng was puzzled. "If not now, when will they seize the opportunity?"
"Have they not arrived because they believe we haven’t yet taken control of the situation?" Lu Fan tried to guess, but her words were drowned out by gasps of surprise from the wasteland inhabitants. The juvenile soldiers were also shouting and anxiously waving their guns.
"Look at the sky, what’s that?" cried a juvenile soldier. The team leader slapped him and glared fiercely.
A power armor was hovering mid-air propelled by thrusters and then landed with a thud. The Gatling gun on its shoulder was already spinning and taking aim.
"Did you kill my father?" asked the gravelly voice through a speaker, evidencing murderous intent.
Tang Zheng did not reply but studied the power armor. He heard some wasteland people referring to it as the "Iron Tyrant".
"I wondered why the ’Trojan Horse Game’ seemed easy this time, turns out they were waiting for us here. Damn Trojan!" Lu Fan complained, her wide eyes darting around nervously for a place to take cover.
The Iron Tyrant was three meters tall and had a waist circumference of over a meter. Its rough, unpolished iron surface looked unpleasant, but onlookers were drooling over it, wishing to own it.
The rough metal body, the thick rivets, the steel color - all combined to make an intimidating killing machine.
"This armor looks factory-made." Not finding any handmade traces on the armor, Lu Fan was unnerved. She knew that even if the Iron Tyrant was of poor quality, enough poor quality items could form a dangerous swarm.
"Are you disrespecting my authority?" The Broken Steel Leader’s son, who was biding his time to utilize Tang Zheng’s leftover value, now began to agitate. He waited for five years to get this Iron Tyrant, a secret among the Steel Council, a definite weapon of mass destruction.
"We might be annihilated if we fight this thing," said Lu Fan, shuddering at the thought. She was suddenly very glad that Tang Zheng had exchanged for the Iron Hellfire. Otherwise, she was sure they’d have to flee now.
"What do you want?" Tang Zheng tried to buy time for Lu Fan to escape, realizing that the secret of his power armor might be exposed.
"Where did you get all these resources from?" The man asked, his mood lifting upon hearing Tang Zheng’s inquiry.
"I found an ammunition depot, it’s at....." Taking advantage of Tang Zheng’s bluff, Lu Fan escaped. The juvenile soldiers hesitated for a moment and ultimately decided not to abandon their post.
The Iron Tyrant did not attack; for they just regarded Tang Zheng as the most valuable asset.
"The Steel Council is coming!" Tang Zheng pointed behind himself and fled into the cave without bothering to see if others believed him. Metals began to stream from his wristwatch and swiftly coated his body.
The juvenile soldiers took cover without command.
The son of Broken Steel Leader was enraged. The Iron Tyrant’s Gatling gun fired a barrage that collapsed the cave wall in a span of one second.
"He’s done for." The wasteland dwellers didn’t expect this unforeseen turn of events. Yet, no one had hope for Tang Zheng’s survival. But in the next moment, a figure in a dazzling red-gold armor broke through the smoke and flames, soaring toward the sky.
Compared to the crass Iron Tyrant piloted by the Broken Steel Leader’s son, Tang Zheng’s intricate armor was a spectacle.
Tang Zheng fired three shells from the rocket nest on his shoulder at the Iron Tyrant while suspended mid-air. It only took down three before the rest hit; however, thanks to its heavy armor, the Iron Tyrant remained unharmed.
Emerging from the smoke and flame of the explosion, Iron Tyrant’s back-mounted Katyusha rocket nest rose, releasing sixteen rocket shells trailing flames and smoke toward Tang Zheng.
