Chapter 379: Chapter 15: The Iron Fist Council, Killed in a Hail of Bullets!_2
Little Pavel secretly let out a sigh of relief. If this wanderers’ team captain proved to be a coward, then Ge’er would certainly seize the opportunity to become more aggressive. After all, preying on the weak was another unspoken rule of the wasteland. Even the children would pounce on a soft persimmon given the chance.
"Alright, we’ll cut you some slack, plus that machine gun, and these two women." Ge’er sneered sarcastically as he pointed at Qin Yan and Xu Biyun with one hand, his other hand already gripping the handgun at his waist. If Tang Zheng dared to object, he would blow his brains out.
The atmosphere on Long Street instantly froze. All the newbies were extremely nervous. Chu Baichuan held his watermelon knife, ready to lash out at any moment, while Old Gao gripped his rifle without changing his expression.
If it wasn’t for the need to gather information, Tang Zheng would not have played the good guy to these three wasteland residents. He didn’t want to start his time in the settlement by committing a murder and ruining his reputation; after all, people tend to let their guard down around someone they perceive as a good person. However, it now seemed that if he didn’t flex his muscles a bit, the survivors wouldn’t survive long in this wasteland world.
"Captain Ge’er, this is too much, there’s no such rule, ya know?" Old Pavel was taken aback. Wasn’t this exorbitant taxation just forcing people into rebellion?
"Rules? The Steel Council is the rule of this gathering place." Captain Ge’er looked at them out of the corner of his eye, a cold smirk on his lips. This was just testing the waters. More ruthless measures would follow. Of course, if they cowered, and his small team could devour them, Ge’er definitely wouldn’t pass up the opportunity.
"Can we maybe pay a bit less?" Tang Zheng glanced at his subordinates. Everyone thought he was seeking their opinion, but in reality, he was signalling to Yin Shangwu to prepare for a fight. Then he walked a few steps forward and asked, "Can’t we negotiate a bit?"
"Hmph, you don’t have a choice." Captain Ge’er scoffed. Looking at the women, he felt a surge of heat in his groin, "Showing off such high-quality equipment in public, aren’t you practically inviting others to rob you?"
Qin Yan was indifferent, while Xu Biyun was terrified, her gaze shifting to Tang Zheng. The other newbies didn’t know what to do either, with their courage rapidly ebbing away in the face of the grim-faced wasteland soldiers and their menacing gun muzzles.
"Fuck, let’s kill ’em." Chu Baichuan, with a fiery temper, couldn’t stand the pressure. He was ready to charge forward with his watermelon knife.
"Stay calm." Old Gao grabbed his arm, preventing him from his impulsive action. Dantai Zongqi was silent, waiting to see what Tang Zheng would do.
"What, you’re going to resist? You realize that means you’ll be hunted down by the entire Steel Council!" Ge’er yelled in anger. He couldn’t believe anyone would dare to cause trouble on the Steel Council’s turf and was already imagining how to enjoy his spoils of war. Seeing the current situation, he immediately drew his pistol, ready to kill them under any pretext, just to gauge the captain’s reaction.
"Reckless, but spirited."
Tang Zheng gave his verdict on Chu Baichuan. Noticing the malicious intent in Captain Ge’er’s eyes, he activated his Gravity Suppression and moved swiftly to his side. He grabbed the AK74M, aimed it at them and pulled the trigger.
Seeing Tang Zheng’s sudden explosion of action, the experienced soldiers instinctively reacted. Two of them tried to aim and shoot at him, while the others tried to intimidate the other wanderers. But in the next instant, they felt a strong gravitational pull, and they couldn’t keep their balance as they stumbled and knelt. Their rifles felt as if they weighed a ton. Two young soldiers even dropped their rifles with a clatter on the floor.
The clatter of gunfire erupted from three Steel Council soldiers, but their shots only hit the ground, harming no one. But their actions had brought the reaper’s summoning.
Captain Ge’er was suddenly affected by the Gravity Suppression, and he couldn’t control his body as he fell to his knees. Tang Zheng’s knee shot up, colliding with his nose due to his forward momentum and broke his nose in an explosion of blood and broken teeth. His arm propped up the rifle, delivering single shots at the most threatening targets.
Poor bastard was standing precisely in the center of Tang Zheng’s five-meter control radius. Who else to hit but him?
The rhythmic clatter of gunfire echoed throughout the abandoned city, the soldiers’ heads bursting open one after another before they even had the chance to fight back.
Qin Yan and the others wanted to help, but the Gravity Suppression was indiscriminate, and they too were forced to their knees in the sixfold gravity. Only Yin Shangwu could hold on, managing to leap out of the range of Tang Zheng’s control and open fire.
The Pavel father and son duo hadn’t even figured out what was going on before they fell to the ground. Sholokhov was outside the Gravity Suppression range and could resist, but seeing the heads of the Steel Council soldiers burst open, a chill ran from his feet to his throat, causing him to shudder involuntarily.
"Why did the fight break out all of a sudden?" Sholokhov picked up his SVD, but just as he readied it, the muzzle of Tang Zheng’s AK74M, outfitted with a circular muzzle brake, swung over to him.
"Don’t shoot?" Sholokhov threw up his hands, his voice straining with all the might he could muster. The East Asian youngster’s shooting accuracy was too precise; he was terrified at the prospect of being silenced with a single shot.
"Did you see anything?" Tang Zheng hesitated for a second before deciding to let him go.
"No, I saw nothing." Sholokhov shook his head fervently like a rattle drum. Sweat started to bead in large droplets on his forehead within seconds, leaving streaks across his dust-coated and grime-streaked face.
"Uncle, what are you up to?" Lu Fan frowned, calling for help with difficulty, "Fanfan feels awful."
When Tang Zheng saw Captain Ge’er raise his handgun, he held his gun in one hand and with a loud bang, blew Ge’er’s wrist to pieces. The severed hand, connected by skin, swayed for a few seconds before falling into the snow. Ge’er screamed painfully, his voice piercing.
Tang Zheng swiftly slammed his foot into Ge’er’s mouth, kicking out a mouthful of teeth. The scream abruptly ended. He deactivated the Gravity Suppression, and the survivors felt their bodies lighten, exhaling in relief. But in the next moment, the models began to scream.
Nine corpses were scattered haphazardly on the ground. Warm blood and brain pulp oozed from their shattered skulls, melting the snow on the ground and creating plumes of rapidly rising steam.
Groaning, three of the models bent over, vomiting violently. Killing wild wolves and killing people were fundamentally different experiences. Their legs trembled at the sight of the bloody carnage.
"Shut up, do you want to attract the enemy?" Tang Zheng growled. If they weren’t so far away, he would’ve kicked them.
"Creating chaos again, are you? Do you think crying and screaming will exhibit your frail feminine personality? No one here is going to sympathize with you!" Pang Meiqin snorted coldly. Not changing her expression, she walked over to the corpses and started inspecting each one.
"Tang Zheng, why were we made to kneel just now? That was your doing, wasn’t it?" Chu Baichuan looked perplexed as he helped his wife to her feet. He didn’t blame Tang Zheng’s for his actions, otherwise they would all have been doomed.
"Sorry, is your wife alright? As for what happened just now, I’ll tell you when we’re alone." Tang Zheng had a good impression of Chu Baichuan. As it wouldn’t be possible to hide the information about the Seed indefinitely, especially since there were people like Dantai Zongqi around, he didn’t want to be seen as a villain.
Chu Baichuan looked over at the three wasteland residents, indicating his understanding. He felt more and more that Tang Zheng was a good man — generous, confident, and composed. Interactions with him always left one feeling refreshed.
"What a good man!" Chu Baichuan sighed emotionally, earning a glance from his wife.
"Everyone, come help dispose of these corpses? We need to leave this place as quickly as possible." Dantai Zongqi was quite pleased with the current situation. He had also planned on using his Seed Ability to sweep these people away, but didn’t expect Tang Zheng to take care of it in less than ten seconds. He was decisively sharp.
"You guys, ah, we could still negotiate!" Old Pavel was extremely depressed. How had things escalated to this point? He was now inevitably implicated.
"Keep it quiet, then be our guide." Tang Zheng bent down, pulled the Y-shaped strap from Captain Ge’er’s torso, took a black, engineer-grade, thirty-round ammunition clip from Ge’er’s ammo pouch, and without checking the bullets, chucked it to Old Pavel.
"No problem." Old Pavel made light of the situation. It was a decent deal; he didn’t have any dirt on him and could still expose them if he wanted to. But the smile on his face froze in the next moment.
"Come, kill him." (To be continued. If you like this book, please go to qidian.com to vote or recommend it to others. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
