Chapter 354: Chapter 45: Tyrant’s Predation
Most of the javelins were blocked by the bus walls, but a few punctured the glass and entered the carriage. Jenny’s hiding spot was not good, she was poked in the buttocks. Luckily, the javelin had lost its momentum, and with the protective clothing blocking, she hadn’t been injured much. Still, this had frightened her.
"I’m injured!" Jenny kept touching her buttocks, yelling loudly, adding to the chaos inside the carriage.
"Shut up, the natives are catching up, counterattack quickly." Tang Zheng leaned out of the window and started shooting back.
The smoke from the explosion had not dissipated, and squads of Dragon Bone Natives kept springing out, screaming their unique war songs, so loud they echoed in the sky.
"We’re doomed, there are more than a hundred of them." Mars’ face suddenly lost all color, looking utterly defeated. The other newbies were not doing much better.
One of the Natives, the most robust one and likely their captain, shouted a monosyllabic word. The Natives all took out their javelins in unison, stood up on their saddles, twisted their waists and threw their javelins.
The javelins, like a forest, fell from the sky in parabolic arcs, stuck into the side of the bus, making a dense clanging sound.
"No problem, we only need to escape into the teleportation gate." David was still encouraging everyone, they couldn’t let up at this moment, or all would be lost.
"Natalie, full speed ahead." Tang Zheng blasted a native’s head open, glanced at the chaotic carriage, and yelled, "Everyone stay calm, throw hand grenades at the right moment, you won’t die."
"You’ve all ridden Raptors, you should know its top speed, we can escape." Tang Zheng knew his advantages, these metal bus walls were the best defense, and not to mention the Natives’ Raptors were easily frightened, they couldn’t outlast a mechanical bus no matter what.
Lu Fan picked up a hand grenade and kept throwing it onto the road behind the bus, creating a series of explosions in front of the dinosaur group. Even though the lethality was insufficient, the smoke and debris from the explosions were enough to hinder them for a bit.
Robert didn’t spare any bullets either, taking advantage of this time to fire wildly. His seed ability seemed to be related to shooting, as he managed to make every bullet count under these circumstances, each taking down a native cavalryman.
Tang Zheng watched Robert, with some admiration. Having another powerful sniper in the team really boosted their strength quite a bit.
This active duty ranger muscled man knelt down on one knee, rested the Gauss sniper rifle on his shoulder. After slightly tilting his head to lock onto his target through the infrared sights, he would pull the trigger, then pull back on the bolt. A crisp, rhythmic metallic sound rang out as the heated shell ejected, followed by another bullet being loaded, followed by the trigger being pulled again, and then the same action repeated.
Tang Zheng noticed that even in the jolting bus carriage, every one of Robert’s shooting poses was extremely standard, not off by a millimeter, and the intervals between each gunshot were even, rhythmical, like an impassioned symphony played by a piano master.
Kada, Robert ejected the empty ammo clip, replaced it with a large one, and began another round of shooting.
The newbies were dumbfounded, all entranced by his performance. There was no way around it, every gunshot would be followed by a Native cavalryman exploding and falling onto the road. In just two short minutes, Robert single-handedly fired a barrage, suppressing the over a hundred cavalrymen pursuing them.
"HERO, long live the rangers!" Jenny cheered loudly, lifting her arms high. The feeling of safety seemed to have returned to her heart.
No matter how strong Tang Zheng was, the newbies felt a sense of alienation towards him, due to his skin color and nationality which made them less secure. But Robert was a soldier, thus he could get their approval better.
At this moment, the newbies selectively forgot about the fact that Robert had once forced them to be cannon fodder.
"I can’t hold on any longer, you guys start firing." Robert growled, sat down on the floor of the car, leaning against his mount and gasping for breath. His eyes were still red, filled with bloodshot strands, obviously his seed ability was related to his eyes.
"Three minutes, killed ninety-two natives, average two seconds per one, Robert, you’re really good." Tang Zheng sincerely complimented, it would be great if he belonged to his team.
"Wow!" Jenny whistled, eagerly ran to Robert’s side, there was no reason to blame her for towel.
"You’re good too, at least the speed hasn’t dropped so far, all thanks to you." Robert responded with a grin, he could see that David had been relegated to a minor role, he really couldn’t deal with this terrible shooting environment.
The newbies were excited, with Tang and Robert here, everyone was sure they would get back alive.
"Tang is indeed good, he even clearly remembered that 92 natives were killed." Miranda gave Tang Zheng a disdainful glance, thinking that he was still reserving his strength. Everyone was panicking, yet he could comfortably remember the number of enemies Robert killed.
The newbies stared at Tang Zheng as if looking at a ghost, Jenny asked incredulously, "Really, 92?"
"Yes." Robert admitted, asking curiously, "How did you remember?"
"Every shot hit the mark. Of course, I counted based on the gunshots," Danny complained, annoyed that Tang Zheng had stolen his thunder.
"No, Robert actually fired 90 bullets. There were two shots that killed two birds with one stone." Tang Zheng casually changed his ammo clip and shrugged, he didn’t really keep count, it was just that he didn’t trust their abilities. He intended to escape at the first sign of the Native Cavalry catching up, so he always had half his attention on the movements behind them. Besides, there was also the undercover Little Lolita to consider.
"Keep up the good work, quickly finish off the remaining twenty or so." Tang Zheng encouraged Robert, "Let everyone marvel at your excellent shooting again."
"Do you think I’m made of iron? Each activation of my ability doesn’t deplete much physical strength, but my eyes hurt too much." Robert’s eyes were still red and teary at this point.
"More than a hundred Natives could be exchanged for quite a few points." Little Lolita more cunningly presented a different reason. However, she didn’t entirely rely on Robert. Proving her point, she started tossing hand grenades on the ground again to obstruct the approaching cavalry when they were within thirty meters.
"Natalie, how much more distance do we have to travel?" Tang Zheng asked, somewhat worried, What should they do if they reached the Teleportation Gate and the Tyrant hadn’t shown up? Should they just wait there? As for those who hadn’t collected all the golden single horns, that was not his problem.
"We have a little more than one-third of the way left to go." Natalie checked the map and relaxed somewhat. There weren’t many dinosaurs in front of them, and they’d be killed before getting close to the bus.
After Robert shot down another dozen or so Natives, the atmosphere within the carriage lightened, and the newbies started talking and laughing. However, their moment of tranquillity was exceptionally short-lived - it lasted less than a minute. After passing a crossroad, they felt the pendulum of fear and death swing towards them again.
This was a giant Native, three meters tall, with red and black skin. He was almost naked, wearing only a skirt made of leaves and feathers around his waist. A big string of bone and stone ornaments were hanging from his neck, clattering loudly.
Their facial features were obscured by the multicolored paint smeared all over their faces. The long hair he kept was all braided into tiny plaits, the top of his head decorated with a clump of feathers swaying with the wind.
In his right hand, he held a curved knife, two meters in length. The blade was made from the bones of an Armed Tyrannosaurus, mixed with rare metals and pharmaceutical concoctions, not only making it sturdy but also extremely sharp. A single slash from him could slice a police car into half. He casually grabbed the neck of the panicked policeman hiding inside.
The policeman opened fire, but to no effect, the Native’s skin was as hard as steel. He crushed the policeman’s throat bone with a squeeze, then discarded the body like a piece of rag.
An Armed Velociraptor by his side swiftly darted out, bit him and began feasting on the corpse on the ground.
"It’s the Tyrant." Lu Fan scanned him with his electronic stick and was terrified by the copious amount of information displayed on the screen.
Even without Lu Fan explaining, the survivors guessed it was the Tyrant. The blazing street behind him served as the most brutal footnote to his presence. A short distance away from him were twenty or so wrecked police cars and dozens of mangled bodies lying amid the rubble, dying a gruesome death.
"Everybody, get down." Tang Zheng shouted, attempting to slip past unnoticed.
"Don’t be detected." Jenny murmured, drawing a cross over her chest and folding her trembling hands in prayer. Unfortunately, God didn’t answer.
The Tyrant locked his eyes on the moving bus. He froze momentarily, then saw the people inside and began charging. His huge feet pounded on the ground, causing a loud clapping sound.
The Tyrant’s towering height and long legs made him as fast as a cheetah when he ran. As he was not wearing any clothes, every muscle on his body could be seen bulging, exploding with incredible power. In a flash, he had closed the gap to within thirty meters of the bus.
"Faster." Jenny was scared by the Tyrant’s explosive speed. She screamed and took aim at him, emptying her ammo clip.
Tang Zheng quickly abandoned his Thunderstorm rifle, took out an AT4, half of his body popped out from the carriage, took aim at the Tyrant, and pulled the trigger.
Boom, the AT4 spat out a jet of hot flame, instantly igniting and melting the rearview mirror, giving Natalie quite a scare, but Tang Zheng didn’t have time to worry about that. He took aim with another one.
The high-explosive grenade whizzed towards the Tyrant with a tail of fire behind it. The Tyrant leaned to one side and evaded the missile with an arched run. The grenade hit the road and exploded, shooting debris everywhere, but didn’t cause any damage.
The second high-explosive grenade was likewise dodged by the Tyrant. However, two Native Cavalrymen following him were unfortunate enough to be blown into the sky.
Robert couldn’t afford to rest. He reloaded with high-power shock bullets, aimed at the Tyrant, and started shooting.
The first shot directly hit the Tyrant’s chest and set off a cloud of smoke. However, the only effect was that the Tyrant’s skin turned slightly red at the spot where he was hit and showed no signs of injury. Even the impact of the bullet only slowed him down slightly, he soon continued chasing after the bus. (To be continued. If you like this work, please come to qidian.com to vote & comment.
