Chapter 306: Chapter 7 Difficult Start_2

"Heh heh, Uncle, aren’t you going to give them water?" Lu Fan tilted back his head, letting the chocolate fall into his mouth. After chewing it a few times, he said, "David and his group really are quite selfish."

"Perhaps there’s not enough supplies," Jack replied. He didn’t complain about the comment, and instead defended David, with a look on his face that suggested we should be understanding of others and not think the worst of them.

Tang Zheng and Lu Fan looked astonished at Jack’s calm expression. After confirming he wasn’t being sarcastic, both of them could feel a twitch at the corners of their mouths. Were they supposed to say this man was too straightforward? Or was he just stupid?

Nicole felt embarrassed at her father’s ’idiotic behavior’, burying her face in her hands.

"Chivalry is a disease that needs to be cured," Lu Fan nodded. He wondered whether he should advise his uncle to stay away from Jack. What if Jack’s ’disease’ was contagious?

"It’s not the right time to give water yet," Tang Zheng returned to the topic at hand. If David and his team couldn’t even take care of their own, it wasn’t Tang Zheng’s place to speak up. He didn’t think that giving a few things could bribe people. And, what would David and his group think of him if he gave them water? Slapping them in the face? It would be better to stand with the Conquerors. The newbies had no value.

"Mom, I’m thirsty." The blonde loli woke up after squinting her eyes for a while. Seeing others drinking water made her unable to resist.

"Sweetie, you’ll be able to drink in a little bit," Julia comforted her daughter, her first instinct was to look at David, as they were from the same country, and thus naturally had a kinship.

"Sorry, my supplies are also limited. When we reach the river later, let’s look for water and food together." David wanted to stand up, but Leonard sitting behind him pushed him back down. He reluctantly declined with a forced smile.

"Uncle, she looks so pitiful." Lu Fan resisted for a few minutes, but couldn’t hold back any longer. Children’s sympathies often overflow, and if she was an adult, Lu Fan wouldn’t spare her a glance.

Tang Zheng gave an imperceptibly small nod. He wouldn’t do something as thankless as giving water to one person alone, it would only provoke more resentment from others. But giving it to little Lolita wouldn’t be problem, no one would be petty with a child.

"Uncle is the best." Lu Fan, of course, understood the implication behind Tang Zheng’s nod - that he agreed to give her water. He therefore stood up, planted a kiss on Tang Zheng’s face, and quickly ran out.

Lu Fan wasn’t lacking water. After their last encounter in the demonic dungeon, he ended up with quite a bit of supplies in his Space Wristwatch, half being foodstuffs.

"You should drink too," Tang Zheng tossed Jack a bottle of water. He couldn’t allow his new friend to be thirsty.

"Do you have enough water in your reserves?" Jack’s chivalry kicked in again, rather than drinking it, he asked Tang Zheng if he had enough. From the look of it, he was ready to return it if Tang Zheng said he didn’t have enough.

"Not enough." With so many eyes on him, even if Tang Zheng were a fool, he’d say he didn’t have enough.

As expected, Jack tossed the water bottle back, "I will find a water source, just hold out a little longer."

Seeing this, everyone around them was dumbfounded, dropping one eyeball to the ground after another. This guy was truly a rare gem.

"Drink it, I have a few bottles left." Tang Zheng handed the water to Nicole.

The girl didn’t mind her father, reached out for her right leg, bent over and took it.

"You shouldn’t accept gifts from others," Jack didn’t realize what going on and continued lecturing his daughter.

Nicole ignored her father, instead giving Tang Zheng a glance full of infinite charm.

"This isn’t fair?" A hooligan who couldn’t take his thirst anymore called out, "Why don’t you share some with us? Aren’t we all in the same boat? Shouldn’t we help each other in times of difficulty?"

"Want water? Heh, here, take this and fill it with your urine!" Leonard tossed his empty mineral water bottle at him, full of mockery, said, "When you’ve contributed for the team, then ask for water.""Does anyone still have water? Can we buy some from you?" The hip-hop youth chimed in, pulling out a wad of US dollars from his pocket.

"You can buy from the supermarket, that’s if, of course, the Cretaceous period has those structures." Danny chuckled at his own sarcasm, hoping to amuse Natalie, but she just gave a noncommittal smile.

"Danny." Jenny called out, attempting to use their friendship to her advantage, recalling that they had just rolled in the sheets together not too long ago.

"What do you want?" Danny looked at Jenny warily, not wanting this sort of woman to ruin his plans of pursuing a movie star.

"Could you possibly sell me a bottle of water? I know Danny is the kindest and most generous." Seeing Danny’s distant expression, Jenny knew he wouldn’t be swayed by their friendship and decided to switch tactics, not that she was fooled — she knew he was after Natalie.

Danny was about to refuse when he noticed that Jenny had licked her lips while staring at him. "I also want Miss Natalie’s autograph," she added.

"This cunning woman, I can’t let her expose what happened earlier." Danny was mindful of his image and comprehended that this was a form of threat, so he relented.

"Danny, you really are a good guy." Jenny gave Danny a quick peck on the cheek, said thanks, and walked away with the water bottle.

Miranda had fully awoken, feeling awkward in her evening gown, which was unsuitable for long-distance travel. She tore off the part below her thighs and looked at the men who had water, contemplating how to get some to drink. Just then, the command to start was issued.

"Alright, let’s move." Just as the ten minutes were up, David stood up and called everyone to proceed.

The newbies were all weak and exhausted. Julia was nothing but a pile of worries; she didn’t want her daughter to suffer, but she herself hardly had the energy to carry her, let alone the over forty-pound backpack and the M4A1. She had no idea how she managed to hold on for the past several minutes, and as such, started contemplating whether to discard her excessive load.

She wasn’t the only one having this thought. The other women too didn’t want to carry their load anymore, even the fat driver was the same.

"I’ll warn you guys, don’t throw away the firearms and bullets, otherwise, no one will save you when it’s time to fight." Leonard still played the ’bad cop’, aware of the fact that some unlucky newbies might die even before they use up a single ammo clip. In a way, they were just carrying supplies for others.

"You two, over here." The policeman who Tang Zheng had beaten up before beckoned the two hooligans and kicked a backpack lying on the ground, "Carry this for us."

The two hoodlums were dumbfounded. Having spent years being disciplined by the police, they instinctively never thought about resisting; their only reaction was to run.

"Are you stupid?" The scar-faced man scoffed, looking at the policeman with disdain while patting the rifle in his hands, "It is uncertain whether we can survive or not."

Only then the two hoodlums gathered their wits and straightened up.

"Hmm, don’t you guys have criminal records? When you guys are thrown into the prison, don’t blame your prison buddies for not backing you up." Strom, the white police officer, was frustrated and was about to load his gun when another person named Mars restrained him.

"Forget it." Mars didn’t want to cause more trouble, nor did he wish to be killed in his sleep.

"What are you guys doing? If anyone provokes another conflict, get out of this team immediately." For once, David fumed, although no one paid him any mind.

"Uncle, should we help Julia and her daughter? They are falling behind!" After walking for about five minutes, Julia indeed began to fall behind, but nobody bothered.

"Did David notice it?" Tang Zheng couldn’t understand the intentions of these people.

"Leonard did glance back once, but acted as if nothing had happened." Lu Fan rested his chin on Tang Zheng’s shoulder and replied, "I guess they think the mother and daughter are a burden, not worth helping."
