Chapter 304: Chapter 6: This is the Cretaceous Period

The young woman Julia braced herself on the ground and grabbed Tang Zheng’s arm, finally stabilizing herself. She quickly sat up, realizing that it was an irresistible force, and since it was her daughter pushing her, she couldn’t even blame anyone else.

The survivors heard the blonde loli’s cry and thought something had happened. When they turned to look, they saw Julia with Tang Zheng. Apart from Danny feeling envious, the others began to check their equipment again. There was nothing surprising about this for them; they would calmly walk away even if they saw someone rolling in a bedsheet.

"Americans really are open-minded. If this happened in China, Tang Zheng might have been slapped by a rude girl and then blackmailed for a few hundred dollars," commented the disappointed Lu Fan after seeing their plan fail.

To avoid any suspicion, Tang Zheng, showing that he had no other intentions, moved away from Julia and walked towards David.

"Not bad, huh?" David punched Tang Zheng’s chest, lowered his voice and said, "She didn’t seem angry, so you definitely have a chance to get her in bed."

"Captain, should you really be focusing on this?" Maggie asked with an awkward expression on her face, slightly disappointed to see that Tang Zheng hadn’t looked at her.

"Alright, whatever the danger later, remember not to scatter from each other." Clearing his throat, David reminded everyone and then turned to Tang Zheng and asked, "Tang, anything to add?"

David was a straightforward person, easy going and a lot of fun, making for a great teammate and friend, but not great as a captain.

"You should make a comprehensive action plan," Tang Zheng advised after confirming that David hadn’t been scheming anything.

"I can’t do that," admitted David, spreading his hands. "I’m just a regular laborer at a lumberyard, best at wielding an electric saw. They didn’t want to be the captain, so they pushed the role onto me."

David wore a helpless look, staring at Leonard and Robert. The two shrugged expressively, embodying this sentiment of helplessness.

Tang Zheng fell silent to David’s straightforward response. They seemed to have a very harmonious team atmosphere, which could greatly increase the chances of their survival, but only time will tell how they would react in the face of danger.

"David, time is valuable. Let them hurry and gear up, move to a safe place, and get familiar with the environment and any beasts in a few days. Only then should they start their action." Deciding to act as a neat strategizer, Tang Zheng offered his first suggestion.

"Right, not bad," responded David, fully agreeing with Tang Zheng’s plan. "It’s clear and organized," he added, announcing, "All wake up, it’s time to move."

"So where are we going now?" asked David, lazy to think and threw the question directly at Tang Zheng.

"We have a map," chimed in Danny, not wanting Tang Zheng to steal all the limelight. He noticed that Natalie and the other women were looking at Tang Zheng more often, so he hurried over to David’s side to show him the electronic map. "We should follow this glowing route towards the river," he pointed on the map.

The electronic map was a black stick-like device about the thickness of a finger and ten centimeters long. Pressing a red button on it projected a virtual map the size of an A4 paper displaying mountains, rivers, and the intended route.

"Why does the line stop at the river? Are we going the wrong way?" asked Maggie, pulling out her map and comparing the same situation.

"Let’s sort that out once we get there. Let’s move. Leonard, you and Danny go first," David decided, holding his gun in one hand while using the other hand to wave in the direction they were going to make sure everyone could see.

"Uncle, what should we do? Should we follow? This is too hasty," said Lu Fan, tugging at Tang Zheng’s leg and frowning. "We have a number of women and children in our team. This kind of traveling is just wasting everyone’s already scarce energy."

"I’ll carry you." The weeds around them were tall and walking through it would be tough. Tang Zheng lifted Lu Fan onto his back.

"I don’t want to be carried by you, Uncle. It’ll tire you out," protested Lu Fan, not wanting to be a burden, and struggled to get down.

"Stop that. Carrying a child who weighs just over thirty pounds won’t tire me out. Save your strength for when you need to run away," retorted Tang Zheng, patting Lu Fan’s bottom. The little lolita immediately blushed and buried her head into Tang Zheng’s neck.

Only when the two policemen, the overweight driver, the African-American basketball player, and three hip-hop youths had all armed themselves and followed after David did Tang Zheng start his move, realizing that staying in the middle of the brigade was the safest option.

"Look, David doesn’t even organize a basic team formation. Does he not care about the lives and deaths of the women and children or has he just not thought about it? And what to do if we are attacked? Fight individually?" complained Lu Fan relentlessly, pointing out their mistakes.

"I can’t exactly criticize the captain the first time he’s taking command, can I? Ah, I guess David’s probably just being used as a scapegoat." Tang Zheng gazed at David’s retreating figure ten meters away and sighed, "David, being the big, careless man he is, probably didn’t notice. Robert and Leonard, cautious as they are, would never make such a mistake. If I’m not mistaken, Robert looks like a soldier."

"An American soldier?" Lu Fan’s eyes lit up, eager to get a glimpse of such a soldier who would kneel down to destroy a tank in the game Red Alert.

During the first ten or so minutes, everyone could still take care of each other. But as the journey continued and fatigue set in, people started focusing only on themselves. In addition, given that the atmosphere inside the greenhouse was suffocating hot, especially with the stifling, humid climate of the rainforest, it wasn’t long before everyone was soaked in sweat. Coupled with the fact that no dangers had been encountered and the novelty of being teleported to the Cretaceous had waned, everyone became more and more relaxed.

Aside from the scar-faced man who was likely a gang member and the white policeman who had been threatened by Lu Fan, all of the newbies loosened their grip on their weapons and let them hang from their shoulder straps. The two somewhat overweight drivers and the man with the fishing rod even tied their protective vests around their waists, exposing their large bellies and abundant chest hair.

Tang Zheng still maintained a steady pace while allowing his gun to hang on his chest. Based on his reaction speed, he could easily counterattack at the first sign of a wild beast’s attack. But Danny didn’t know this, thinking that he was exhausted too, and so he seized this opportunity to tease him as a way to strike up a conversation with Natalie. Maggie had taken his place to pave the way.

"Uncle, you should beat him up," said Lu Fan, pumping her little fist in the air as if punching Danny’s face, speaking on behalf of Tang Zheng.

"I don’t have the time," replied Tang Zheng, holding an electronic map in one hand and comparing the electronic image to the actual environment. It was his first time using such a device, so he was not quite familiar with it, yet he knew he had to quickly understand all of its functions.

In addition, Tang Zheng also needed to discreetly observe the reactions of each of the newbies to identify who had the potential to be his combat mates. After all, people’s fundamental qualities are more easily discernible from minor events. Such as Doctor Jack who, besides constantly checking his map, often sought consensus from those around him, cared about their health, and advised them on how to avoid heat stroke and walk in a manner that conserved energy.

"Uncle, these people are just too laid back and lack determination," said Lu Fan as she sat on Tang Zheng’s back, holding a traditional Chinese oil-paper umbrella to shield him from the scorching sun. "Up till now, only five people are still determined enough to look at their maps – Robert, Leonard, the woman in the evening gown, the woman in the uniform, and the gang member."

"Why don’t we collaborate? You know that we can also adjust the size of this map." Doctor Jack approached Tang Zheng, with the intern nurse in her pink uniform closely following him from behind.

"I know." Tang Zheng nodded, casually tapping on the map a few times to magnify some portions of it. The topography and other details were rendered in incredible detail. "That’s not all, this baton seems to also have a scanning function."

"Indeed." Doctor Jack was thrilled to finally find someone with whom he could converse in a shared language. He pressed a purple button, and a beam of purple light emitted from it. Moving it over a plant on the ground, the virtual map vanished, then a detailed description of the plant popped up.

"It’s a Gnetum tree, a type of gymnosperm, now extinct." After reading the description, Doctor Jack turned to Tang Zheng and said, "You know, I noticed you from the start. You’re more professional than them, more alert to any potential crises and adept at wilderness survival. I’ve made up my mind. I will stay by your side."

"Huh?" Surprised, Tang Zheng turned to look at Jack, who was now in his middle years. Listening to his introduction, he scarcely knew how to respond.

"This is my daughter, Nicole. If you impress me, I would allow you to pursue her." Doctor Jack, acting like an old acquaintance, drew the daughter who had been standing behind him closer, "What do you think? Isn’t she pretty?"

"Hi." Nicole amiably greeted Tang Zheng. With her head full of curly brown hair and youthful freckled face, she was lively and fun. Below her nurse dress were two long legs wrapped in white silk stockings, now soaked with sweat, adding some sensual allure. Adding to this were her white nurse sandals, stained by the green grass juice and mud.

"Hey, hey, you shouldn’t stare at my daughter like that in front of me." Doctor Jack playfully chided Tang Zheng as he slapped the latter’s shoulder, pretending to be unhappy. "I regret my offer, you’re her uncle now."

"Uncle," Nicole did indeed call him uncle, much to Tang Zheng’s dismay. To be honest, he hadn’t noticed her earlier. Only now did he notice that her breasts were very full, and she was tall, an absolute beauty on a par with Keira Knightley, but with a more innocent appearance that detracted a few points and lacked the former’s mature allure and sensuality.

"Haha, who’s the girl?" Seeing Tang Zheng’s discomfort, Doctor Jack broke into laughter and then turned to look at Lu Fan, "She won’t happen to be your daughter, will she?"

"Dad, he’s barely even an adult himself, there’s no way he could have a daughter this big," Nicole responded, rolling her eyes at her dad. He’s acting silly again. (To be continued.
