Chapter 291: Chapter 38: Fight to the Death
The moment of climax for this pair of lovers was naturally the best opportunity for a surprise attack, but it would have to be a fatal blow. Otherwise, their screams would summon their companions.
"Although these guys have their disagreements, for their own safety, they must be staying in rooms on the second floor, and not far apart," Tang Zheng speculated, hesitating, annoyed that he hadn’t been able to scout out their rooms in advance and ascertain their positions.
Qin Yan rushed from the secret tunnel, patting him on the shoulder.
"Shall we do it?" Although Qin Yan pretended to be unconcerned, Tang Zheng saw her cheeks turning red.
"The woman is a newbie and she’ll definitely scream, so you must kill her first and foremost," Tang Zheng knew he couldn’t procrastinate any longer and quickly formulated a plan: "The table is about five meters away, try to end the fight within thirty seconds, and then leave."
"The man is a Conqueror, this is too risky," Qin Yan looked at Tang Zheng’s severed arm and shook her head, "Let’s be cautious, we have many opportunities."
"I’m worried Yin Shangwu can’t wait." Regrettably, as Tang Zheng was still contemplating about the weapon to use, a woman’s scream echoed from within the castle - Yin Shangwu had made her move.
The woman in the room was startled. As she attempted to get up, she was forcefully pushed by the Russian man back onto the table. He then held her hair with one hand, picked up the AN94 with the other, and pointed it at the door.
"Attack!" Naturally, Tang Zheng wouldn’t let such a great opportunity slip by. He growled, pulled away from the dressing table, and pounced like a hunting cheetah.
The muzzle flames of Qin Yan’s Howling Reaper illuminated the room as she fired relentlessly.
The Russian reacted swiftly: As he turned his head, he pulled the woman’s hair with one hand, using her as a human shield, and then retreated swiftly.
Qin Yan followed him with the muzzle, painting the Russian and the screaming woman with stray bullets, flesh and blood. The Russian managed to deploy his ability in time, numerous vines bursting forth to form a shield around him.
"Die!" Tang Zheng sprung forward five meters, releasing Gravity Suppression. The wildly growing vines halted abruptly and the Russian’s counterattack was delayed.
Boom, the Demon Slaying Holy Flame ejected a bullet, tearing a hole through the woman and hitting the Russian’s chest, throwing him off balance. Though his protective clothing prevented serious harm, he glared at Tang Zheng in a rage, barely able to raise his spiky vine-covered arm. Due to the gravity suppression, however, it moved with all the speed of a dying crossbow.
Without reloading, Tang Zheng smashed the shotgun towards the Russian’s head to confuse him. He then drew his Bronze Sword, colliding hard against the man, driving the sword into his neck.
Blood spurted from the wound, splattering against the wall. Tang Zheng swung his hand horizontally in an arc and the Russian’s wide-eyed head flew into midair.
After killing the woman, Qin Yan immediately fled the room. Just in time to catch the flying head with one hand and Tang Zheng’s Demon Slaying Holy Flame with the other, she turned around and ran. Tang Zheng lingered no more than a second, beheading the woman, collecting it and dashing into the hidden tunnel entrance.
Qin Yan quickly closed the vanity, blocking the passage. Leaning against the wall, panting heavily and completely used to the stench of the blood gushing from the two heads.
"How many seconds did we take?" Qin Yan monitored the door through the two-way mirror. Noticing no one was coming in, she looked at the two corpses. The woman’s upper body had been completely blown apart, a gruesome sight.
"Less than thirty seconds, let’s go, we can’t hide here. The bullet holes from your shooting will reveal our location." As Tang Zheng was about to turn around, he was pulled back by Qin Yan.
"Listen, Yin Shangwu is still fighting!" Angry voices echoed from the corridor on the second floor, clearly indicating that a battle had commenced, "Aren’t we going to help her?"
"Let the woman go crazy, we’ll clean up the mess later." Tang Zheng complained bitterly, was the woman planning to fight six people alone?
"Igor, you necromancer, stop hiding and come out to kill!" Victor, the captain of the Vodka team, roared furiously, prompting each of his teammates. He took out his Gatling 6-Barrel Machine Gun, holding it with both hands. As the electric current was applied, the gun barrel started spinning, and a barrage of bullets ensued.
Tang Zheng could see the wall adjacent to the corridor had been penetrated extensively with bullet holes like it had been plowed through, Yin Shangwu’s figure flickered past the doorway.
Bang, a man crashed into the room through a collapsed wall. Before he could get up, Tang Zheng exchanged the Demon Slaying Holy Flame for the Thunderstorm rifle, opening fire instantly, the man was engulfed by Thunderballs, torn to shreds.
"Didn’t you say you wouldn’t help?" Qin Yan asked puzzled, but she had also switched to the Thunderstorm rifle. Everyone had developed tunnel vision, forgetting that they could kill without resorting to magical attacks.
"Why not take advantage of it when we can? It’s just a shame that they’re a newbie." Tang Zheng let out a sigh and charged into battle, "While Yin Shangwu is stirring things up, let’s make our move. If she dies, our situation will become even more passive."
"Tang Zheng, you guys stay back, I’ll take care of my own enemies." Yin Shangwu didn’t know that Tang Zheng had already taken action. She was simply trying to divert the Vodka squad’s attention with her words.
Unfortunately for Tang Zheng and Qin Yan, Victor had reached the doorway and was shocked to see them blowing Lev’s body to pieces. He immediately aimed his gun and started firing.
"Damn." Tang Zheng released his Gravity Suppression ability and dragged Qin Yan towards Victor’s blind spot. He dare not to retreat through the secret tunnel, fearing it would be blocked and trap them. At this moment, he regretted that if his hands were intact, he could have thrown a hand grenade to retaliate.
Victor stepped in, continuing to fire. However, he also noticed something wrong. The bullets slowed drastically upon hitting the surroundings of their bodies, and fell diagonally to the ground. Even if some hit their bodies, they were blocked by their clothing and unable to pierce through.
"Judging by the protective clothing and seed ability, they are Conquerors." This thought flashed through Victor’s mind, and he immediately retreated, tossing a few bombs to obstruct them. He then switched to the Thunderstorm rifle. The Gatling gunfire was effective against newbies, but it was wishful thinking to expect it to work against Conquerors.
"One more minute." Seeing that the enemy had no intention to retreat, but, instead, was planning a fierce attack, Tang Zheng calculated the remaining time of his Seed Ability and prepared to withdraw. He did not want to confront such a confident enemy, but it was too late.
Victor placed a hand on the stone wall. After a flash of red light, the wall began writhing until it peeled off and formed a three-meter-tall human-shaped summon. It then lunged towards Tang Zheng and Qin Yan, swinging its arm.
Tang Zheng’s gravity suppression was still active. The monster’s arm did not reach him before it was crushed to the ground, turning into bits and pieces. Then, a Thunderball came shooting over.
The summon’s arm had been destroyed as if it had a suction power attached to it; it sucked in the floor and reformed into a large arm, swinging towards Tang Zheng.
Tang Zheng pulled Qin Yan aside. The floor was smashed and both fell down, but he didn’t forget to shoot at Victor while falling.
If it was any other time, a three-meter drop wouldn’t cause any harm to Tang Zheng. But, he was seriously injured now, so he didn’t have time to cushion his fall. He slammed into the floor hard, with several chunks of debris hitting his head. Fortunately, the Firefly ability was quite useful; otherwise he would have broken a few ribs by now.
The summoned minion jumped down after Tang Zheng, trying to crush him. Victor didn’t stop firing and the barrage of bullets pinned them down.
"Into the hall or the backyard?" Qin Yan shielded Tang Zheng behind her, protecting him as they entered the first floor corridor. From here they could see Yin Shangwu fiercely battling a few Russians in the hall about ten meters away.
"Go to the backyard." Tang Zheng didn’t want to give up their numerical advantage or join the fray in the hall. Seeing Victor catch up, he retreated toward the backyard. He took out a Seed in an attempt to extend the duration of his ability, but found it was a Silver Seed. Reluctant to use it, he stuffed it into Qin Yan’s hand, "Give me a Bronze Seed."
Without asking why, Qin Yan immediately handed him one.
"Warrior!" Tang Zheng called, and the armored warrior instantly appeared in the backyard. Striding forward across the lawn towards Victor’s minion, it swung its Warhammer.
Boom, the upper part of the Stone minion disintegrated under the forceful attack. Before it could regenerate, it was hit by another heavy hammer, this time a leg was sent flying.
The debris shot into the corridor like stones from a catapult, dusting Victor, who had caught up from behind.
Victor once again put his hand on the ground. With a flash, five more minions were summoned and launched at Tang Zheng. His ability enabled anything his left hand touched to become a summoned minion, combining meat shield and attack ability, with a maximum of ten at a time.
The green weeds began to gather too, forming a person-high minion. It stood in front of Victor, acting as a meat shield. Victor wanted to take shelter behind it and shoot from there, but a few moments later he wanted to flee, because every swing of the Warhammer by the Warrior shattered his minions. In front of it, they could only take beatings.
"F.U.C.K., Ability suppression." Victor felt exasperated. Both their abilities were summoning types which meant what mattered was the strength of the summons. While he had a numerical advantage, his minions were inferior in quality. It was unbearable for him to see his minions being beaten.
Tang Zheng also felt frustrated. As the minions quickly regenerated after being smashed, they were really annoying. Qin Yan’s ability was not suitable for aggressive combat, and she could only stand aside. The Thunderstorm rifle couldn’t hurt Victor shielded by his minions and so the situation stalled for a while.
