Chapter 286: Chapter 34 Stone Statue Courtyard and Spider Castle_2
"It’s raining." As Lu Fan looked up, a cold droplet of rain hit his cheek, and then the world was enveloped in a curtain of rain.
"Quick, into the castle, the stone statues are moving." Tang Zheng noticed raindrops hitting the ground and the wet stone statues trembling as if about to come to life. He didn’t hesitate anymore and rushed towards the castle.
"Why not retreat to the stable?" The thought of possible monsters within the castle made Pang Meiqin afraid.
"There’s only a dead-end in the stable, only in the castle do we have a chance to find clues to escape." Tang Zheng was seriously injured - every step was excruciatingly painful.
"Cover the front, I’ll take care of Tang Zheng." Noticing Qin Yan preparing to come back to assist him, Yin Shangwu warned, then picked up Lu Fan and placed him on his back, proceeding to assist Tang Zheng.
"I’m not so injured that I can’t walk, everyone quit talking." Tang Zheng let go of Yin Shangwu’s hand. The sudden downpour was limiting their vision and hearing, making it impossible to properly observe the movements of the stone statues.
"Watch out behind." Lying on Yin Shangwu’s back, Little Lolita was no burden but was attentively watching their surroundings, hence she was the first to notice an anomaly.
A few stone statues resembling beasts with the body of a lion and head of a leopard sprang up from the rain behind them, launching at the group.
Da-da-da, Tang Zheng and Yin Shangwu promptly turned around and fired a barrage of bullets. Yin Shangwu was now wielding an M60 machine gun, and the 500 round ammo box was enough for him to freely unleash.
Crash, the spiritual power bullets hit the stone beasts, smashing them into bits of stone, but more beasts and stone statue snakes slithered up hissing venomously.
After running out of his drum magazine, Tang Zheng dropped his rifle, pulled a spiritual power hand grenade hanging from his chest, bit the pin and threw it out.
Lu Fan was similarly not idling. She had just received a box of spiritual power hand grenades from Tang Zheng to deal with such a situation. So, she kept retrieving grenades from the space wristwatch, pulling the pins, and tossing them, creating a suppressing barrage in the rain behind them.
After organizing the relics in Li Xinlan’s wristwatch, Tang Zheng gave a prop he had captured from the Russian Yelena to Lu Fan, he initially meant to give it to Qin Yan but she refused.
"Be careful." Qin Yan shouted as they passed a dried-up fountain, the statues there also came to life. A headless little boy statue grabbed its own skull and threw it at Qin Yan, followed by an executioner brandishing his ax-spear at them.
Qin Yan aimed at the executioner and pulled the trigger. The Howling Reaper sprayed rhombus-shaped muzzle flames. She thought the child’s skull was harmless, but who knew it would suddenly explode mid-air. The shattering stone flew in all directions, hit her body, and even cut open her cheek.
The headless boy clapped its hands in approval of this attack, then tore off its own left arm and threw it.
Pang Meiqin tried to knock down the flying arm, but the terrible environment combined with her poor marksmanship resulted in her wasting a clip without hitting it.
"Dodge," Qin Yan cried, trying to lead the group to change direction. She felt a rush of frustration at this moment, feeling like she hadn’t been doing a good job at being the pioneer.
"Ignore that and just break through," Tang Zheng refused, "It will be troublesome if we get surrounded by them."
At this moment, stone monster statues started to pounce from both sides of the stone road, and they were still fifty meters away from the castle. Worst of all, they had run out of ammunition and had no time to reload.
"Lu Fan, it’s your turn now. Qin Yan, don’t engage in melee, reload." Tang Zheng drew his bronze sword, enduring intense pain, he rushed to the forefront to buy them time.
Three stone beast statues lunged at him. Tang Zheng swung his sword horizontally, slicing it through the neck of a stone lion, decapitating it, then continued forward and thrust into the brain of the second beast. Using the inertia of his body, he turned and kicked the third one, sending it flying away.
After performing this movement, Tang Zheng’s wound burst open, and fresh blood seeped out. Fortunately, Qin Yan had finished reloading, and Lu Fan was pressuring the other three sides with her hand grenades.
Pang Meiqin finally understood the difficulty of being weak. Without the powerful Tang Zheng, each step for the team had become exceedingly challenging. They were being pushed to such a precarious situation by mere stone monster statues.
Tang Zheng felt a bitter taste in his mouth, his body was no longer capable of producing the burst of energy he had just displayed. He could resort to using his seed ability, but the toll on his body would be enormous.
In the remaining fifty-meter journey, Yin Shangwu finally showed a glimpse of her abilities. After firing all her bullets, she unsheathed her Tang sword. Every swing sent a crescent-shaped cleave from the blade of the milky-white sword, smashing onto the stone statue monsters and shattering them instantly.
Within a minute, the five people arrived at the front steps of the castle. Tang Zheng and Qin Yan, their shoulders broad, used their momentum to crash into the main entrance with full force.
Bang, two human-shaped holes immediately appeared on the door. Third to enter was Pang Meiqin, Yin Shangwu quickly followed, but the Little Lu Fan behind her got left behind in a stroke of bad luck. Before she could react, she was hit square by the door. The mighty force of the impact made her lose grip of Yin Shangwu’s clothes and fall to the ground from her back.
With a thud, Little Lolita fell on the ground, immediately letting out an agonizing scream as she curled up in pain. A few wooden spikes were lodged in her forehead with crimson blood oozing down.
A stone statue monster swung its powerful claw in the wind toward her head.
"Lu Fan." Tang Zheng got up, ignoring to take a look at the castle lobby, he darted towards the door to grab Little Lolita’s leg.
Bang, the monster smashed the floor into pieces, spraying dust everywhere. Tang Zheng was about to unleash his seed ability to kill when he saw over twenty stone statue monsters skidding into a halt just outside the broken door, staring intently at Tang Zheng and his team, none of them dared to step inside.
"Good chance." Aligning her muzzle, Qin Yan opened fire, showering the creatures with bullets, causing stone shards to scatter about. The remaining stone statue monsters quickly dispersed in fear.
"Is there something inside the castle which even the monsters are afraid of?" Pang Meiqin looked around, touching the red carpet spread on the floor.
This was the castle’s lobby, with staircases on both sides leading to the second floor, and doors at the end of the lobby, their destinations unknown.
"Let’s rest here for a while." Pang Meiqin, soaked, lied down, utterly exhausted.
Qin Yan wasn’t idle, she began to load a new bullet chain onto her MG3.
"Ouch." Lu Fan’s forehead swelled up, Tang Zheng was helping her remove the spikes, which made Little Lolita cry again. But she didn’t complain about Yin Shangwu.
Tired, Yin Shangwu collapsed onto the dusty carpet, and through the hole in the door, she watched the rain pour down on the courtyard weeds.
For a moment, there was rare silence. However, a minute later, a rustling sound echoed from the doors behind the lobby.
"What sound is that?" The women shuddered, their hairs standing on end. The sound was quite disturbing.
"It’s a spider." Lu Fan screamed, then immediately covered her mouth, pointing at the lobby’s backdoor, she quickly crawled into Tang Zheng’s arms.
A dozen giant black spiders, their backs adorned with purple patterns, the size of a small sedan, crawled out. Now and then they lifted their rears, and the rustling sound was produced by their pincers and mandibles rubbing together.
"Upstairs." Before figuring out the situation, Tang Zheng didn’t want to tangle with these spiders. With one hand, he grabbed Lu Fan and ran towards the staircase.
Hiss, the patterned spiders saw Tang Zheng stand up, immediately lifted their rears, and sprayed a thick white spider silk. Threads from a dozen of them joined in mid-air, creating a large irregular web to entrap the five of them.
Yin Shangwu and Qin Yan successfully dodged, but Pang Meiqin was a step behind. Her left leg got stuck, she tried hard to pull it back, but the spider silk’s adhesiveness was too strong, making it impossible to break free.
"This dumb girl, use a blade." Tang Zheng cursed. From the thickness of the spider silk it was evident that Pang Meiqin couldn’t break free using just brute force.
Pang Meiqin quickly reached for her folding knife while the spiders, having trapped their prey successfully, swiftly moved their six pairs of legs to pounce on her. (To be continued.
