Chapter 249: Chapter 7 Not Full Yet, Take Another Piece!
The female students were quietly discussing in hushed tones, looking worriedly distressed. Yet, Zhang Hao was grinning from ear to ear with a gleeful and unseemly smile. After all, with Tang Zheng around, there was no need to worry about fumbling during a monster attack.
"Having a strong Group Leader sure takes a load off." Zhang Hao smacked his lips and decided to cooperate with Tang Zheng for now and not anger him unnecessarily.
After three hours, the high school students still hadn’t discovered anything. Their initial enthusiasm had gradually depleted, and they no longer cared about the dirt on the ground. They found the cleanest places they could to sit down and rest. The combination of fatigue, hunger, and the oppressive, dim underground prison cell made them feel particularly oppressed and exhausted.
Li Xinlan also took out a tent from her Space Wristwatch and laid it out as a resting place for her companions. The sudden appearance of this prop left the high school students amazed for quite a while.
"How did you do that?" One student gathered the courage to ask, yet Li Xinlan only shook her head, not answering. She had no patience for these ungrateful students.
"Hmph, arrogant for no reason." Liu Jiamei huffed unhappily. Some other students felt similar but didn’t voice out their opinions, only watching Li Xinlan and her company sitting on the tent floor, their expressions growing distant.
"You can come sit here." Li Xinlan was indifferent. Still, she knew the necessity of rallying people to her side. She looked towards the seven girls who had come seeking shelter earlier with a welcoming smile.
"Thank you, sister. My name is Gao Meilin!" A lively girl dressed in jeans, and was the center figure among the seven girls. She was about to go over when another student held her back.
"Meilin, don’t." The girl hid behind Gao Meilin and muttered quietly, gesturing with her eyes for Meilin to look towards their classmates.
Although the students didn’t dare to vent their anger on Tang Zheng’s group and limited themselves to grumbling, they had no such barriers towards Meilin and her friends. Their eyes were full of scorn and contempt.
"That’s enough, Meilin." The other girls quietly counseled Meilin. Had it not been for Meilin, they wouldn’t have come over. Now, they were clearly being ostracized by their classmates, an unpleasant feeling.
"Ignore them, Jiao Hui. Follow me." Gao Meilin fiercely glared at Liu Jiamei, who was watching their way, pulled Jiao Hui’s hand, and led a few other friends over to Li Xinlan. They stepped onto the waterproof tent laid out on the floor.
"Say hello to big sister." Gao Meilin greeted her companions before sitting down in a corner and patted the spot next to her. "Can we sit here? We’ll only take up a small spot."
"Of course, you can. Make yourselves comfortable." Li Xinlan greeted each of them, turning her attention toward Gao Meilin, and began skillfully inquiring about their backgrounds.
They were a group of high school sophomores on a trip who had a car crash due to thick fog in the morning, and unfortunately, the bus they were riding was part of it.
"Is that your head teacher over there? She seems quite irresponsible?" Lu Fan pointed to the female teacher who acted like a walking corpse, distancing herself from everything, and asked quietly.
"She’s only been our head teacher for two months, she doesn’t have any authority in the class. And, I heard she just got married. She’s probably struggling to accept the news of her own death." Gao Meilin answered openly and was very talkative. She brought up things Li Xinlan didn’t even ask about.
"You don’t seem too upset about your own death?" Pang Meiqin felt that this little girl was particularly mentally resilient, which made her a little jealous.
"I mean, of course, I care, but since I’m already dead, there’s nothing I can do about it. Anyway, let’s talk about you guys." Gao Meilin clearly had things she was uncomfortable talking about and sidetracked the conversation. "It seems that the young man who’s only a bit older than us is your leader, right?"
"His name is Tang Zheng, and thanks to him, we’re still alive." Bai Guo answered, setting the checked M4A1 aside and taking out a handful of spiritual power bullets and an ammo clip to load.
"Let me help you." Gao Meilin joined in, acting like they were very familiar with each other. The other six girls, however, were more shy and wouldn’t utter a word if not asked. Despite Gao Meilin’s attempts to lighten the mood, it still remained a bit awkward.
"Actually, if you don’t want to, you don’t have to come over here. We won’t force you." Lu Fan sat next to Bai Guo, pressing a bullet into the ammo clip. She glanced at Gao Meilin and adopted a seemingly considerate posture, advising her.
Leopard Print Woman also realized that it wasn’t appropriate for her to just sit by and do nothing, so she hurried over to help.
"We don’t mind at all, young lady, how did you get in here?" Gao Meilin didn’t catch Lu Fan’s subtle hint to leave.
"Oh no, with a girl like her sticking around, I’m sure Uncle Lin won’t sit idly by. Fan Fan’s got another competitor." Lu Fan exchanged courtesies with Gao Meilin and splendidly wore a bright smile on her face. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at Pang Meiqin and the other high school students, pondering whether to create some conflict and drive them away.
"Forget it, everyone has a hard time surviving. But keep in mind, if you threaten my uncle’s safety, don’t blame me for playing dirty." Lu Fan sighed, letting go of his little schemes, and muttered, "Bai Guo, why don’t you buy some fast-loading clips, or even speed loaders?"
"What’s that?" Bai Guo had garnered a lot of knowledge about firearms, but certainly not about these.
"Uncle Lin, give me two speed loaders." Lu Fan glanced at Bai Guo’s ample bosom, stood up, and called to Lin Weiguo who was inspecting the wall, "Stop inspecting, have some water and food, rest for a while."
"Ha ha, why are you not concerned about Tang Zheng?" Having focused on searching for clues for a long time, Lin Weiguo was also tired. After all, as he was middle-aged, his condition was deteriorating rapidly. Given the chance to rest, he readily stepped away. It would be peculiar if such a sensible little girl didn’t attract affection.
Hearing about the availability of water and food, the high school students unconsciously looked over.
"Uncle Tang is overly cautious, he won’t rest unless he inspects the Coliseum himself." Lu Fan obviously had a deep understanding of Tang Zheng’s character.
After Yin Shangwu returned to the tent, only Xu Guanlin and Tang Zheng remained inspecting the wall, providing a topic of conversation for the bored students who began speculating about who would discover the secret to escape the Coliseum first.
The high school students didn’t know that at this point, Xu Guanlin despised Tang Zheng. He was already tired and this prolonged situation would only drain more of his energy. If they encountered another Skeleton Soldier attack, his life would be at stake. But to maintain the prestige of being class monitor and sustain his current popularity, he had to persevere in inspecting the wall, even if it meant just going through the motions.
"I am an elite, I can do it." Xu Guanlin encouraged himself. Seeing the expectant eyes of his classmates, he reminded himself not to give up, not to lose face here.
Tang Zheng had noticed Xu Guanlin’s unusual behavior. His eyes were barely focused on the stone wall and he was moving extremely slowly, clearly just going through the motions. After thinking for a few seconds, Tang Zheng had a rough idea of what Xu Guanlin was thinking, he couldn’t help but chuckle to himself. He then dropped plans of retreating before the next wave of monsters emerged, and decided to continue inspecting.
"This class president is interesting. After donning Firefly armor, my uncle became a Conqueror, possessing eight times the strength of an ordinary person. If he wants to outdo my uncle, isn’t he just joking around? I feel sorry for him." The cunning Lu Fan had also figured out Xu Guanlin’s thoughts. He didn’t say this loudly, but it was loud enough for Gao Meilin and the others to hear. Since they wanted to stay, they had to be intimidated and rid of any second thoughts, "Forget it, it doesn’t matter anyway, once my uncle reveals his full strength, there will be more people wanting to follow him."
Sure enough, hearing these words, the seven high school girls looked at each other, their faces shocked. Eight times the strength of an ordinary person, what did that imply? No wonder he dared to fight the Skeletons barehanded.
Tang Zheng didn’t pay attention to the gazes directed at him, put away the tactical flashlight, picked up a burning torch, and began circling the stone wall again.
"Isn’t he being redundant? The flashlight must be brighter than a torch. Does he think his eyesight is too good and wants to blind himself?" Han Zifeng disparaged Tang Zheng to the crowd, drawing a burst of suppressed laughter. But they were also afraid of being overheard, so they kept their voices low.
"Han Zifeng, you clown, stop speaking ill of others." Yue Tong glared at them angrily, remonstrating, "If it wasn’t for him, we might have sustained casualties during the Skeleton Soldier attack."
"Let there be casualties then, as long as I’m not the one who dies. Whoever gets hit because he can’t run fast enough, it is their own fault." Han Zifeng whispered mockingly into Yue Tong’s ear, being a sports scholar and priding himself on his superior physical fitness, "You haven’t forgotten the story, have you? It doesn’t matter if you can’t outrun the bear, as long as you can outrun the others who are also running for their lives."
"You, I’m going to expose your vile nature to the class." Yue Tong was fuming; she knew Han Zifeng was not a good student, but she didn’t expect him to be so malicious.
"Who would believe you?" Han Zifeng looked at Yue Tong’s slightly protruding chest and collarbone, wishing he could grab it. But seeing the other girls looking, he abandoned the thought, "Hmph, let’s wait and see, there will come a time when you will need me."
Han Zifeng was no fool either; he huddled with a few of his unscrupulous friends to discuss how to survive in this dire situation -- of course, all their plans were to deal treacherous blows behind people’s backs.
Xu Guanlin couldn’t hold on any longer; he didn’t want to deplete his energy for the sake of pride. So he returned to his classmates. Liu Jiamei immediately went over to support him.
Tang Zheng chuckled, waved his dwindling torch, and walked back to the front of the tent. Lu Fan immediately bounces up, took a chocolate bar from her pocket and handed it over.
After eating the child’s food, Tang Zheng casually shrugged, provoking an uncomfortable reaction from a hungry student watching him eat the chocolate.
Other than a few who didn’t care, there were more than ten others who looked at Tang Zheng with contempt, secretly complaining why it was not them being fed by the loli.
"Fanfan, give me another piece, I’m not full." Tang Zheng casually shrugged, uttering a phrase that infuriated all the newbies.(To be continued. If you like this work, please come to qidian.com to vote for it. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
