Chapter 241: Chapter 1 SS-Class Item
Having returned to the real world once again, Tang Zheng was now well-versed in navigating his new life. After ensuring no one was around the remote area he found himself in, he stepped onto the main street and hailed a cab back to the Heng’an District. He was clad in sportswear over his protective clothing, avoiding any suspicions from ordinary people.
"I should find a new place to stay. Too many college couples come and go here, it’s easy to get discovered." After paying his fare, Tang Zheng saw couples checking into rooms for the night, eager to turn off the lights for whatever activities they had planned.
"Should I consult An Xiuru? She knows this city quite well." Tang Zheng unlocked his door and scanned the surroundings out of habit before confirming that nothing had been moved. He then collapsed onto his bed.
A few minutes later, once his emotions had settled, Tang Zheng took out a golden seed and began to examine it. He then burst into laughter thinking about Zhang Hao surreptitiously making his purchase.
Zhang Hao was very conscious of secrecy, making his purchases from a corner by himself and then teleporting away without greeting anyone. The leopard print woman, on the other hand, discussed it with Qin Yan. After hearing that points could be exchanged for money, her eyes lit up and she could no longer resist, converting all 700 of her points into RMB.
"Twenty-eight million yuan! Now my son finally has money for college. Even if he can’t find a job after graduation, he doesn’t need to worry about not being able to afford a house or get married." The leopard print woman’s face was filled with happiness as she dreamt about the future.
"Sorry, how old is your son?" Qin Yan looked at the leopard print woman, who couldn’t be older than thirty-five or thirty-six, so her child shouldn’t be very old.
"My son is currently in his senior year of high school, at a key school, and his grades are excellent, so getting into college is not a problem." Pride shone through the leopard print woman’s words as she spoke of her son, her world, "But first, I need to treat his dad’s illness. I can’t wait any longer. Then, I’ll use the remaining money to buy a house."
Hearing the leopard print woman’s dream, Qin Yan could only reluctantly interrupt her because there were things she needed to clarify.
"If you don’t purchase basic protective equipment, there is a good chance you will die in the next Trojan Horse Game."
"That’s alright, as long as my son is okay. Plus, perhaps I can make it through." The leopard print woman only paused for a moment, a relieved smile returning to her face. However, the trace of melancholy in the corner of her eyes was impossible to hide.
Upon hearing her response, Lin Weiguo sighed. Pang Meiqin opened her mouth, ready to tell her that this was just wishful thinking and that the Trojan wouldn’t be so merciful, but Li Xinlan covered her mouth.
However, Lu Fan’s decision had a greater impact on the group. After receiving the golden seed from Tang Zheng, Yin Shangwu gave her a silver revolver with interest.
"This is a special product, Russian Roulette. You can specify a prop to the Trojan, then bet your life to try your luck," Yin Shangwu said, his voice calm, but his words shocked the crowd. Even Pang Meiqin continuously advised the little loli not to be impulsive.
Tang Zheng remained silent, waiting to see how little loli would react.
"Are there any rules restricting this?" Lu Fan did not show any sign of fear. Instead, she opened the revolver with both hands to inspect it carefully. However, the slight trembling of her hands said it all - the child was nervous.
"No, after you select a prop, you point the gun at your head and shoot. If you’re lucky enough to survive, the prop is yours," Yin Shangwu looked at the expressions of others and continued, "This is an SS-rated special product that I snatched from a Russian Conqueror, capable of arming a newbie with superior gear instantly."
"SS-rated?" Pang Meiqin exclaimed in surprise, her eyes lighting up. She rushed over to Lu Fan, took the revolver, and began to examine it. "Can I use ’leaving the Trojan Room’ as a bet?"
"Do you think the Trojan is a fool?" Yin Shangwu never expected Pang Meiqin to be this naive. "Remember to think before you speak next time."
"One in six odds, huh. It’s worth a shot." Lu Fan retrieved the revolver and put it to her temple, testing the weight.
"It’s not one in six odds. The higher the level of prop you select, the more bullets will appear in the bullet nest: three for B-Class, four for Level A, five for S-grade, six for SS level," Yin Shangwu held up a finger. "Don’t be too greedy, three bullets already represent a 50% death rate."
"B-Class properties have a maximum limit of 2000 points, and risking your life for them is simply not worth it. Little Lu Fan, don’t be impulsive. This woman clearly wants to see you die," Bai Guo shrieked, trying to snatch the revolver from Lu Fan.
"Exactly, SS-rated props have six bullets. Isn’t that essentially a death sentence?" Pang Meiqin pouted, and then her face lit up with excitement, "Are there any loopholes?"
"No, this revolver ignores all defences, that’s why it’s rated SS. The roulette effect is just an added benefit," Yin Shangwu spread his hands, "The revolver is yours. What you do with it is up to you."
Upon seeing this, Zhang Hao, who was just about to hide in a corner and select his equipment, felt envious to the point of death, while others looked on in astonishment at Yin Shang Wu. Giving away an SS-Class item so casually, she certainly had her guts.
"There must be some plot. Unfortunately, I can’t figure it out." Bai Guo, the natural simpleton, said with a grim face, quite helplessly.
Just when a few women were chattering away, Lu Fan suddenly held a revolver gun against her own head, pulling the trigger.
’Click’. In that moment, everyone’s hearts seemed to stop, their pupils constricted, until Lu Fan smiled relaxing her shoulders, then everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
"Don’t scare people like that." Zhang Hao patted his chest. He didn’t believe at all that Lu Fan would have the guts to gamble with her life.
"I’ve chosen!" Lu Xun said, his face pale, his lips trembling as if he had survived a calamity.
"Impossible," Pang Meiqin screamed.
"You’re amazing." Bai Guo, as a more naïve person, had no suspicions. She admired Lu Fan a lot. No wonder that little girl could survive; she certainly had guts.
"Really, you really chose it?" Pang Meiqin’s interest was piqued when she saw Lu Fan nod. She eagerly asked about her bet, "What did you choose? Quick, tell us. Please don’t choose something for entertainment; that’d be too wasteful."
"I’m not that stupid. Look, it’s a small-sized Firefly Protective Clothing. It seems to fit me well." Lu Fan ran to Tang Zheng’s side, holding the clothing up against her body to see if it fits.
"You should choose protective clothing. It’s the most cost-effective. Huh, Firefly?" Pang Meiqin commented like an expert then stopped abruptly.
"S-Grade artifact?" Zhang Hao stared at Lu Fan in shock, yelling, "Are you insane? You would really bet on a one-in-six chance of survival?"
"I’m different from you all. Without my uncle to look after me, I could die. I don’t want to be a burden, there may be times when you’re too busy to watch over me. Instead of waiting helpless in the Trojan Horse Game, it’s better to risk it once." Lu Fan calmly explained. The pride evident in her somewhat raised voice, the bright light of wisdom shined in her dark eyes, "I’m not used to entrusting my fate in others."
Everyone was stunned by Lu Fan’s resolution. If anyone in the game could survive, it would definitely be Tang Zheng. If two could survive, the other would have to be Lu Fan. At this moment, everyone started to reassess their attitudes towards the Trojan Horse Game.
Even though the little girl seemed to be talking casually, Tang Zheng knew she was terrified. Lu Fan was icy to touch, her neck was covered in sweat, and she was leaning against him for support, otherwise, she might have collapsed.
"Uncle, Little Fan Fan wants to survive. I have to work harder and sweat more than you all. Uncle, there’s no need to blame yourself. There’s really no need for you to protect Fan Fan."
Lying on the bed, the last sentence that Lu Fan used to comfort him replayed in his mind. Tang Zheng started to feel gloomy. In the eyes of a child, the Trojan Horse Game was brutally cruel. In order to increase her survival chance, she had to gamble with her life, striving to survive. What about himself though? He was wasting away his life recklessly.
After getting up and chugging a bottle of mineral water, Tang Zheng crawled back into bed, activated a Golden Seed, and fell into a deep sleep.
This time, Tang Zheng spent a hundred points to exchange for fifty thousand bullets that could damage spirit monsters. He spent another hundred points to repair his body, and fifty points to fix the Firefly Protective Clothing. He then spent two thousand points to double his strength and neural response speed. After not buying any other props, he was left with 3,800 points. As long as he could get another 6,200 points in the next two rounds like before, he would be able to leave this damned game.
Tang Zheng had considered leaving with Lin Weiguo and Li Xinlan, but how long would that take? Every time they spent all their points to fully equip themselves in order to increase their survival chance. Tang Zheng, however, didn’t need to do that anymore. He didn’t want to continue languishing. As someone with only D-grade luck, he might suffer a misstep and die. Moreover, he had no interest in the beauty equipment listed on the Trojan list. He just wanted to exchange his extra points for money and leave the room for good.
"It seems like I crave Xin Lan’s physical intimacy and thoughtfulness, not love." After realizing this fact, Tang Zheng felt dejected for a while, feeling like he had let Xin Lan down.
The next day at noon, Tang Zheng woke up from his sleep. First, he tested his physical characteristics. There was no change which left him slightly disappointed. However, he soon became optimistic again, anticipating his new ability.
As he activated Furious Queen, a two-and-a-half-metre tall knight, clad in heavy armour, appeared in the room. She was cloaked in a faint red mist, as if she had just emerged from a pile of corpses. She even exuded a cold frosty aura that made the room’s temperature seem to drop ten degrees. Her head was concealed beneath a rusted helmet, topped by a plume made of red bird feathers.
Although he couldn’t see the knight’s face, Tang Zheng didn’t mind. He was more concerned about her combat power. So he teased her, "Show me your strength!"
