Chapter 1568: Chapter 30 Slave
A breeze blew by, carrying a thick stench of blood. The shattered corpses lay unevenly on the gravel, reminiscent of a Picasso’s impressionist painting.
Xie Yundan stepped on a pile of intestines, the slippery sensation under her foot unbearable. She squat down and vomited, which triggered a chain reaction, causing all the newbies to retch.
"Those who didn’t get blood on themselves, step forward!" Tang Zheng threw away the stone axe with a broken edge, picked up a few bone knives, and walked among the corpses, "Go, kill those severely injured natives. Those who are already dead, stab them again."
Bai Xia turned around and saw a native woman, about to breathe her last, staring at her venomously like a poisonous snake. She stopped the step she was about to take.
"What are you dazing at!" Tang Zheng kicked Bai Xia’s buttocks. The woman staggered a few steps and fell onto the native woman.
The woman, delighted, stretched out her blood-soaked hands, attempting to strangle Bai Xia.
"Don’t come over!" Bai Xia’s cheek was touched, her body shook violently, and she swung the bone knife wildly.
The woman’s chest was chopped into a bloody mess, making squelching noises, splashing Bai Xia’s face with blood.
"Go and stab again, each of you carry a severed head to the tribe, or there won’t be food!" Tang Zheng was training their courage, corpses made the best props.
Fang Zhiwen gritted her teeth and was the first to make a move.
Tang Zheng no longer watched the scene and walked towards the gathering place.
Not all these natives were desperadoes, some fifteen stayed behind, seeing their tribe members annihilated, they hastily gathered some simple food and curved knives and decisively evacuated.
One of the women, holding a torch, intended to burn down the house, but was stopped by her companions.
"Don’t tell me you’re still thinking of taking back the tribe?" Tang Zheng glanced at a white man’s head stuck on a spear and entered the tribe.
"Search the tribe, starting now, whatever you find belongs to you," Tang Zheng waved his hand, "Go, be careful."
People like Gao Shuang, who had just experienced a fight, were still excited. At his words, they cheered and rushed towards the stone houses, rummaging through the spoils of war.
Tang Zheng walked towards the largest house in the center of the tribe, knowing without asking that it was the personal residence of the chieftain.
Fang Zhiwen obediently followed behind Tang Zheng, acting as his personal assistant.
Pushing aside the straw rope curtain, an indescribable strange smell rushed toward them. Tang Zheng, having anticipated this, held his breath, though Fang Zhiwen covered her nose but still felt like vomiting.
The stone house was simple, besides a stone bed covered with animal skins, there was a hollow wooden rack in the corner stuffed with the chieftain’s spoils of war.
"A handgun!" Fang Zhiwen’s eyes lit up, she ran over and picked it up to fiddle with it, "Does it still work?"
"No problem!" Tang Zheng took the Beretta M92F, expertly checked it, and handed it back to Fang Zhiwen, "Keep it for self-defense!"
Next to the wooden rack, there was a B-Class space travel bag. Although it looked somewhat shrunken, Tang Zheng opened it and found quite a few supplies inside.
"Biscuits, chocolate, and even mineral water!" Fang Zhiwen instinctively reached out to grab them, but stopped and glanced sideways at Tang Zheng.
"Go ahead and eat. Just remember to pick those that are unopened!" Tang Zheng picked up a bottle of mineral water, unscrewed it and took a few gulps, then pulled out a first aid kit and a Red Cross survival box.
Fang Zhiwen suddenly understood why Tang Zheng had said the spoils of war belonged to the individual. The best items were certainly in the chieftain’s room; no one would dare to take them except for him, unless they were really observant.
The box contained including water purification tablets, fishing line, and several other small equipments. Tang Zheng stuffed anti-diarrheal pills into his pocket, ignored the flare gun, and picked up the folding knife, tossing it to Fang Zhiwen.
"Pack the travel bag, we’re pulling out!" After a final glance at the animal skulls used as decorations hanging on the wall, Tang Zheng left the stone house.
The squad’s atmosphere was unprecedentedly upbeat, with the newbies holding their own spoils of war and trading them joyfully among each other, three lucky ones even finding travel bags.
The natives clearly hadn’t had any use for these things, their loss was their gain.
"I never realized instant noodles could taste so good!" Little Willow said tearfully, eating so eagerly she choked.
"Prepare to leave, we’re moving out!" Tang Zheng did not hurry them, allowing ample resting time.
"Why not use this place as a base? We don’t even know what the mission target is?" Sun Guofeng didn’t want to trek any longer, his feet were covered in blisters.
"Waiting to be attacked? Don’t forget some natives have escaped," Fang Zhiwen, good at pleasing people, took out food, sharing with her classmates.
"What’s that smell? So fragrant, the natives’ cooking isn’t bad!" Zhu Huarong sniffed and looked towards Tong Li.
"Ah!" Holding a piece of dried meat, Tong Li was eating and searching, then entered a room and suddenly screamed.
Tang Zheng immediately rushed over, Shen Jiashu intentionally lagging a few steps behind; Tang Zheng could block a sneak attack, but he couldn’t.
"Corpse, corpses!" Seeing Tang Zheng, a terrified Tong Li threw herself into his arms.
Several white people’s corpses hung in the air, their flesh almost completely shaved off, leaving only bones, and a pot beside them simmering meat soup, a fragrance wafting through the air.
"Yuck!" Thinking of the fragrant smell as human flesh, the newcomers who had followed up all threw up.
Without the map, it wasn’t a problem for Tang Zheng; he simply followed the direction in which the surviving natives had fled.
Three hours later, while resting in a stone forest area, Tang Zheng and his group heard the scout’s warning.
"There’s something going on—it’s a group of natives!" Zhao Qian lowered his voice, signaling everyone to be quiet.
Two hundred meters to the west, several dark spots appeared, staggering along. With Tang Zheng’s eyesight, he could see they were all women and children, ragged and covered with scars and bloodstains, obviously lucky survivors of a great battle, now fleeing.
A thirsty, tired woman fell, without a cry. The group stopped, and a fellow tribesman squatted down beside her, checked her eyelids and her cracked lips, then shook his head.
The group left her behind and moved on.
The woman harbored no resentment; she cast a blessing look at her tribespeople and then closed her eyes, silently awaiting death.
The wind blew, raising dust and gravel, and the temperature grew even hotter in this desolate Stone Age filled with death and ruin.
"Bring over those pieces of meat and water!" Tang Zheng waved to Zhu Huarong.
"What are you planning to do? Take captives?" Fang Zhiwen reminded, "Don’t forget, we don’t speak their language!"
"We have to try it—Little Willow, Zhu Huarong, follow me." Tang Zheng, holding a skin backpack, jumped off the rocks. "No killing without my order."
"Let’s all go together!" Shen Jiashu licked his lips, "The more, the merrier!"
"Trying to scare the captives away?" Fang Zhiwen gave her fellow alumni a glance, "Be careful."
The fleeing crowd noticed Tang Zheng and the other two, their eyes suddenly fixed on the backpacks they were carrying, sniffing the air with a greedy look in their eyes.
"They don’t seem friendly!" Zhu Huarong hid behind Tang Zheng, very timid.
Only ten meters away from each other, the women and children suddenly pulled out bone daggers and axes, charging fiercely.
"Careful!" Little Willow grabbed Tang Zheng’s arm, having forgotten how to fight, as her courage faltered with fewer people around.
"Get out of the way!" Tang Zheng shook off Little Willow and with a sweeping kick, knocked down the strongest woman who ran the fastest and took the hardest hit, spitting blood and crashing into two other tribespeople.
A fearless child charged forward, his eyes fixed only on the dried meat on Tang Zheng’s body.
Tang Zheng kicked the child’s knee, flipping him over, then landed a kick on his head, knocking him out, he then walked over to the strong woman and pinned her to the ground again.
Gravity Abyss activated, all the natives were thrown into the air.
"Captive, understand?" Tang Zheng tried to negotiate, switching through several African dialects, but still faced puzzled and awe-stricken gazes.
The natives no longer moved; Tang Zheng’s show of force had deterred them. A woman tried to run but was stopped by a stone Tang Zheng threw hitting her knee, causing her to fall to the ground.
"Food, for you to eat, then follow what I say!" Tang Zheng threw the backpack down, gesturing with his hands.
Pieces of meat fell out, the natives all swallowed their saliva in unison, and finally, someone couldn’t resist and stuffed a piece into their mouth.
"Eat, captive!"
Seeing Tang Zheng without attack, the natives got bolder, grabbing the meat pieces and gobbling them down, then a woman suddenly knelt on the ground, holding the back of her head and bowed to Tang Zheng.
Seeing their fellow tribe member’s action, the others hesitated for a moment, then did the same.
"Congratulations Tang Zheng, you’ve gained your first slave, language unlocked, your temporary team will automatically comprehend native dialect!"
"Mission unlocked. The condition for this round, become a chieftain and have a thousand native followers!"
"Silver, could you be any more troublesome?" Tang Zheng was sure at least half of the survivors would fail to unlock this, the condition was too vexing.
"Please note, mission time one week, if not completed within the time limit, a termination punishment will be given!" Silver didn’t respond but only made a routinely brutal announcement.
"Where am I supposed to find a thousand followers?" Tang Zheng looked at these natives with a bitter smile, "It seems indeed, I must subjugate tribe after tribe."
"Where did you come from? What happened to your previous tribe?" Little Willow realized she could understand the native’s speech, and immediately ordered in a commanding tone.
"Chieftain, please shelter us, even as slaves!" The strong woman spat a mouthful of blood, respectfully bowing to Tang Zheng.
"Go, give that abandoned woman some water. Rest assured, with me, you won’t lack food or drink," Tang Zheng reassured the new slave, expressing his doubts, "Wasn’t your tribe taken over? Anyway, slavery is the same everywhere, isn’t it?"
"They are very brutal, cannibals!" The woman chewed on the dried meat, actually, she had nowhere else to turn but to seek Tang Zheng’s shelter.
"How many warriors?" Tang Zheng was eager to capture new slaves, "And tell me about your customs and habits."
"Two hundred adult warriors!" The woman’s face was filled with terror, "They are very strong, practice witchcraft, you are not a match, you will be eaten!"
"Isn’t that at least a tribe of five hundred people?" Tang Zheng assessed, figuring he could catch two hundred captives indeed! (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, welcome to qidian.com to vote and support me, your support is my greatest motivation.)
