Chapter 1566: Chapter 28 Teaching a Lesson to the Newbie

This is a long-range hunting party that left the tribe just a day ago. Every so often, the Chief himself leads the team to hunt.

The prey is not only ferocious beasts but also natives from other tribes. In their view, nothing is inedible. Rather than risking their lives hunting large beasts, killing natives is somewhat easier. As for cannibalism? The natives still in the Stone Age feel no pressure about it at all. After all, morality has not yet been born; they simply follow their instincts to survive.

The tender-skinned Fang Zhiwen and her companions are clearly a tasty treat, and the Chief would naturally not pass up these seemingly similar fellows. Upon the scout’s discovery of them, he immediately launched an attack.

The indigenous people do not come up with tactics, but years of hunting experience have taught them how to achieve more perfect kills. It’s just a pity that they met Tang Zheng, a tough guy—if he weren’t there, including Bai Guo, they would all become a delicious soup in the natives’ big pot the next day.

"Civilization seems not too advanced!" Looking at the simple trolleys and the spare stone axes and water bags made from animal bladders on them, Tang Zheng waved his hand, "Send a few people to chop off the head of that biggest native and bring it back."

Most newbies hesitated, but Shen Jiashu pulled out a stone axe without any hesitation and turned to leave.

"Wait, take this for self-defense!" Tang Zheng tore off the straight knife bound to his calf and threw it to Shen Jiashu.

Several men regretted not having volunteered, as it was just a beheading—which they were also brave enough for.

"Go look for the car wheel prints left behind. When he returns, we’ll move on!" Tang Zheng looked around, having killed so many people, the heavy scent of blood could definitely attract more beasts.

Shen Jiashu was also scared, and it took him less than five minutes to return, gasping and carrying a dripping Skull. Sweat drenched his head, feeling more exhausted than if he had run a marathon.

The team set off. To train the newbies, Tang Zheng dispatched three scouts. Shen Zhang didn’t want to go, resulting in six slaps that knocked out one of his teeth.

"Don’t make me get violent!" Tang Zheng scanned over with a piercing look, and while the new recruits were trembling, they knew a dictatorial rule had begun.

As dawn rose to reveal half of its cheek, the newbies were still making their way through the weathered Stone Forest Area. Thanks to the gentle wind, they could just make out the wheel prints; otherwise, another clue would be lost.

"How much longer do we have to walk?" Little Willow was both tired and thirsty, eyeing the three-meter-long snake that Gao Shuang was carrying on his back and swallowed her saliva thinking that even if it’s disgusting bugs, she could eat them now.

All the newbies looked towards Tang Zheng’s back. They were hungry too but remained silent, worried about getting beaten.

"Rest for now. Zhao Qian, go get some firewood from the berry bush over there."

Tang Zheng looked at the sky and declared a rest. The newbies immediately breathed a sigh of relief and sat on the ground without fussing about the dirt.

Zhao Qian cursed Tang Zheng in his heart as he went to gather the firewood.

"Clear the ground, watch out for bugs." Tang Zheng had just finished speaking when Catwoman screamed, frantically slapping her buttocks.

A palm-sized yellow scorpion fell to the ground, brandishing its stingers, arrogantly crawling past. The men glanced at the insect, then fixated on Catwoman’s figure. As she wore a short skirt, she vigorously squeezed, causing ripples across her behind. Worried that there might be bugs up her skirt too, she lifted it, revealing her buttocks, quite a tantalizing sight.

Shen Jiashu rushed over in a few swift steps and stabbed the scorpion to death with his straight knife.

"Delicious, just remove the head and tail, and it’s good to eat," Shen Jiashu mimicked Bear’s tone. Yet looking at the struggling scorpion that hadn’t quite died yet, he felt a shudder of disgust, let alone the thought of eating it.

"Go ahead, set an example for us," Sun Guofeng scorned him, deliberately making things difficult.

"Nah, I’ll leave such rich protein for you!" Shen Jiashu was no pushover either.

"Stop the chatter and start cooking!" Tang Zheng lifted a stone, and a bunch of scorpions scattered. Since last night, he had caught quite a few wild animals, so he wasn’t interested in tasting these bugs.

"Are we going to take over the indigenous tribe?" Fang Zhiwen, while killing a snake, sparked a conversation, knowing that it’s only through exchange that relationships can warm up.

"It depends." Silver didn’t provide much mission intel, which made Tang Zheng start to wonder if this might actually be a ruse.

"Without a common language, even if we capture captives, we can’t put them to use." Bai Xia helped out, her hands stained with blood, which she found disgusting and wanted to wash, but water was too precious a resource.

"Group Leader, my butt hurts, it feels numb, like it’s going to rot." Catwoman came over, tears streaming down her face, "Am I poisoned? Am I going to die?"

"Shut up, Bai Guo, go take care of her," Tang Zheng frowned, such crying would affect morale, but he didn’t want the newbies to die from such accidents.

Apart from a few like Fang Zhiwen, the rest could hardly get a word in. They too wanted to integrate into the team, but they were too shy and somewhat proud—therefore, became even more silent.

"Three sips each, no more!" Tang Zheng moistened his lips and passed the water bag to Fang Zhiwen next to him.

"Drink mine too, I’m not thirsty yet." Fang Zhiwen pushed away the water bag. There’s no denying, this white, rich, and beautiful girl knew how to ingratiate herself—if it was an average guy being cared for by a goddess, he would’ve been over the moon.

Tang Zheng gave Fang Zhiwen a long look, then threw the water bag to Xie Yundan on the other side.

Fang Zhiwen’s heart skipped a beat; Tang Zheng’s gaze was too piercing, as if he could see right through her.

"So what if he sees through it? This is all above board!" Fang Zhiwen played with her hair and licked her dry lips, comforting herself. There were still a few water bags left; the newbie surely couldn’t drink them all. Besides, they were about to reach the Tribal Gathering Area. As long as they seized control of it, food and drink would be abundant.

"I’m stepping away!" Tang Zheng walked behind a rock, and when he returned and sat back down, Tong Li immediately began to complain.

"Why did you drink two extra sips?" Tong Li was very dissatisfied.

"It wasn’t intentional," Little Willow defended while cursing Tong Li in her mind for creating trouble.

"Nonsense, I clearly saw you glancing at Tang Zheng while drinking, only when you saw he hadn’t returned did you take those sips," said Tong Li, who was somewhat petty and thin-skinned. The two sips she had taken earlier were very small and hadn’t even moistened her throat, so seeing someone else take advantage made her unhappy.

"I drank less than you; four sips of mine weren’t even as much as your two," Little Willow retorted quickly, secretly regretting not denying it earlier.

"That’s not true, I drank even less!" Tong Li was close to tears, standing up abruptly, wishing she could slap Little Willow.

"Stop arguing," Fang Zhiwen tried to calm them down, but to no avail.

The tension between the two women ratcheted up, and their language grew increasingly foul, nearly coming to blows.

"Shut up, both of you, come here!" Tang Zheng swallowed a mouthful of meat, his cold gaze settling on the two women, who were too scared to move.

"Didn’t you hear me? Come here!" Tang Zheng emphasized his words, "I don’t like to repeat myself a third time."

"I really didn’t mean it, next time, I can drink less," Little Willow rolled her eyes at Tong Li and hurried to Tang Zheng’s side with a smile.

"Tang, Group Leader, you weren’t like this before. I’ve heard from my roommate that Tang Zheng of class three was very popular," Tong Li pouted, feeling wronged. A year ago, they were all classmates, so why should he be sitting there giving orders now?

"Little Willow, slap her face, four times!" Tang Zheng ignored Tong Li’s complaints, shocking everyone with his command.

"Okay!" Little Willow was startled, then elated, and, feeling smug, she grabbed Tong Li’s hair and began slapping her fiercely.

Slap, slap, the crisp sounds of the slaps stupefied Tong Li.

"Oops, sorry, one extra slap!" Little Willow slapped hard, swelling Tong Li’s corner of the mouth. She thought her attempted seduction of Tang Zheng the previous night had been successful, which made her even more brazen.

No one stood up for Tong Li, and they all bowed their heads.

"Your turn now, slap her face, eight times," Tang Zheng said detachedly, nodding at Little Willow with his chin, "Four of those are for the price of you taking two extra sips."

Having the chance for retribution, Tong Li didn’t hold back and whipped her armature around, striking hard across Little Willow’s cheek.

Little Willow instinctively tried to dodge but, seeing Tang Zheng’s icy gaze, she ultimately did not dare.

The slapping stopped, and complete silence settled around them. The newbies even lowered their breathing, fearing to upset Tang Zheng.

"Not convinced? If you can beat me, feel free to retaliate!" Tang Zheng stood up and approached the two women.

"Hitting you isn’t because you stole water, but because you got caught. In a cruel Survival Game, this doesn’t matter. If you can ensure I won’t catch you, even drinking it all wouldn’t be a problem," Tang Zheng lectured Little Willow. "Survival always comes first. If you’d gotten along with Tong Li yesterday, you could now be enjoying the thrill of your secret sips."

"Little Willow, Tang Zheng is telling you how important unity is," Fang Zhiwen sided in, knowing full well that Tang Zheng was not the type to take pleasure in abusing others.

"Tong Li, do you feel wronged?" Tang Zheng stopped in front of his Alumni, "Hitting you is because you disrupted the team harmony. Everyone has their circles of close relations, and because of your words, this already disjointed team would become even more chaotic."

"I’m sorry, I know I was in the wrong," Tong Li apologised, eyes filled with resentment. What was this? Why couldn’t she call out someone’s wrongdoings?

"Do you think I’m being unfair in rewards and punishment?" Tang Zheng sighed, "Look at me."

Tong Li kept her head down despite Tang Zheng’s repeated commands.

"With an attitude like yours, you’ll soon be dead," Tang Zheng said grabbing Tong Li’s chin, forcing her to look him in the eye.

"Do you understand? I’m doing this for your own good. If I punished her and let you go, what do you think would happen?" Tang Zheng snorted, "She’d take her revenge, and a sneak attack when you’re not looking could cost you your life."

"I wouldn’t do that," Little Willow hastily refuted, although she had harbored such thoughts deep inside.

"Right, maybe not now, but in one or two days, you will," Tang Zheng let go of Tong Li and turned to face the other newbies. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, welcome to qidian.com to cast your recommendation votes and monthly votes. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
