Chapter 1528 - 116: Attacking Babylon
Chapter 1528: Chapter 116: Attacking Babylon
After an hour or so, everyone moved up to the great bridge and, looking across the sea, saw Tokyo Babylon.
This is an artificial island connected to the city by a 500-meter-long bridge. At this time, there were no pedestrians on it, only abandoned cars and the mutated creatures wandering on patrol.
Under the breeze, the azure seawater surged with ripples, reflecting the afternoon sunlight like golden-yellow crushed leaves.
"I think it is safer to go by sea. The bridge is too dangerous!" someone suggested.
Looking over with raised hands, everyone realized that besides taking a boat to enter Babylon, they had no choice but to cross this bridge. If the enemy hadn’t set up an ambush, that would be a real shock.
Natasha paid no attention to them, fully activating her mental powers to scan the opposite shore, but she was disturbed by an invisible electronic barrier and obtained no intelligence.
"I think it’s best to divide into two groups. Move by both land and sea," Silver Hair said lazily, sitting on a Ford sedan, poking the hood with a dagger.
"You’d better make a decision quickly; the mutated creatures are coming for us," Emily said coldly, as those scattered in the city and the ones they had shaken off began to catch up again.
The monsters let out deep roars from their throats, like layers of accumulated thunder. Their number was too overwhelming, flooding the survivors’ entire field of vision like an army of ants.
Every street was packed full by the mutated creatures. Unable to bypass the buildings, they simply smashed into them, consequently causing the sounds of collapsing structures and dust flying everywhere!
"Only less than 200 meters to go!"
"This city had a population of several million. Have they all turned into mutated creatures?"
The group leaders lacked the courage to push Natasha, only able to apply pressure with such muttered concerns.
"Take the bridge, defense type, full speed ahead, others follow up!" With Natasha’s command, the war chariot group roared like wild horses unleashed, charging onto the bridge.
"Long-range faction, blow up those cars blocking the way, everyone else watch out for the sea," Natasha counted the time and distance silently, and sure enough, when they were about a hundred meters in, hundreds of mutated beasts appeared at the end of the bridge, launching a desperate charge.
"Don’t panic, long-range faction focus fire, kill them!" In less than a second, Natasha had allocated targets to everyone, to avoid wasting firepower.
The mutated beasts’ huge hooves thundered on the bridge surface, causing intense vibrations that made it feel as if the bridge could collapse at any moment. The shaking transmitted to everyone’s bodies, making their hearts uncomfortable, speeding up the beat and feeling oppressive.
Bullets and various lethal abilities stormed into the midst of the mutated beasts, cutting a bloody corridor through them. Yet, their vitality was tenacious; they kept pushing forward, dragging their mutilated bodies relentessly.
Bang, bang, cannons on the war chariots fired, but hitting the mutated beasts only created puffs of gunsmoke without inflicting damage. Ordinary bullets were largely ineffective at this point.
Tang Zheng stood on the roof of a car, unleashing the Furious Queen.
The gunner wearing a Venetian mask appeared, her long legs kicking the cannon powerfully, aiming it directly at a mutated beast, then pulling the lanyard.
Boom, the muzzle flared with intense flames, and amidst the rising white gunsmoke, the cannon shell, howling sharply, hit a mutated beast, obliterating it before piercing through five more until it lost momentum and stopped,
Boom, boom, the gunner kept firing. Her super high rate of fire alone created a small climax, dozens of cannon shells forming a steel barrage that crashed into the lines of mutated beasts, blasting a gap twenty meters wide.
Marilyn also appeared with a firearm on her back. However, instead of attacking, she lingered by Tang Zheng, massaging him.
The others, secretly watching Tang Zheng, were almost popping their eyes out, feeling a bit envious. With such an ability not only meant for combat but also to warm the bed, it was indeed multi-beneficial.
Tang Zheng pushed away the clingy Marilyn, urging her to fight.
"No way out, attack with all your might!" The weaker survivors had no time to care about others as they saw the mutated creatures had caught up to the bridge, shouting anxiously.
There were too many mutated creatures, swarming each other, with many falling into the seawater with a splash.
"Tang Zheng, have your people hold back the mutated creatures behind us." As the advance slowed, failing to get off the bridge would mean being caught up, so Natasha asked Tang Zheng to take action. After all, natural types were suitable for this.
"Xin Lan, put up an ice wall." Tang Zheng held back the eager Lu Fan, since the air was sufficiently moist, an arena fully suited for the young married woman.
Li Xinlan entered Hero Mode, launching Ice Age.
In the summertime sky, crystal snowflakes began to fall unexpectedly, the temperature dropping sharply, the bridge started to ice over, soon visibly forming an ice wall.
With crackling freezing sounds, the ice wall spread, pushing more mutated creatures off the bridge, and those that couldn’t leave were frozen into ice sculptures.
The joint team advanced to three hundred meters, and just when everyone thought they were making smooth progress, the mutated beasts changed tactics, slamming fiercely into the bridge to destroy it.
Whoosh, whoosh, several Mutant Arrowfish, like bolts from a crossbow, shot out from the sea towards the nearly hundred-meter-high bridge, while dozens of thick tentacles stretched out, striking at the survivors.
Quick, kill them!" The group leaders shouted, no one wanted to fall into the sea filled with mutated beasts, but it was already too late.
The bridge was brought down by the mutated beasts. The front-line defense types plummeted along with the rubble, even seeing vast black shadows swimming under the sea surface.
"Brother Lin!" Xu Biyun’s shout mixed with many others, drowned out. She made the stones nearby the Old Soldier into puppets to catch him, but sadly she failed.
The Old Soldier knocked a Mutant Arrowfish out of the air and then plunged into the Seawater, where several Black Shadows immediately swam over and began their attack.
The Tentacles, like Siege Hammers, pounded against the bridge, causing even worse collapses, making it difficult for the survivors to stand firm.
"Take out the vehicle and fly over." Flying in mid-air would undoubtedly make them targets, and defense would be difficult, but the survivors had no choice.
"Damn it, the Wristwatch is restricted."
"No shit, if I could fly, I would have armed the Hellfire long ago."
"This is the enemy BOSS’s home ground, it would be strange not to be limited."
The Conquerors cursed, venting their dissatisfaction. With blockades ahead and pursuers behind, most could only choose to jump off the bridge.
"Jump!" Tang Zheng did not want to be the focus of a Barrage, taking the lead and jumping off the bridge. He exploded the Arrowfish and Tentacles before they got close.
A few had flying abilities, and after surviving several rounds of Cannon Fodder cover, they successfully reached the other side, but faced with Mutated Creatures, they chose not to exert effort and retreated back into the Seawater.
Seawater poured into Tang Zheng’s ears, the sudden pressure causing a muffled echo in his eardrum. He closed his eyes slightly, pulled with one hand, and used the Gravity field to pull the Group Members to his side.
"Hellfire can’t be used anymore." The Old Soldier wiped the Seawater from his face, not in a hurry to swim to shore.
A white Ice Layer spread over the surface of the sea like a floating island, providing ground for the Warhammer team.
Tang Zheng propped his hands on the ice and shot up, pulling Dong Zixuan up, and wrapped the other Group Members in the Gravity field, pulling them onto the Ice Layer.
"Establish a defense!" Tang Zheng glanced at the other side, those survivors who stayed in the Seawater to reduce the number of attacks made a great effort to swim; some were heading his way.
Tang Zheng pulled Fu Tianxiao, Yue Jing, Wang Fang, and Li Zheng over to him.
"Thank you!" Yue Jing spat out a mouthful of Seawater, noting the favor.
"Make the Ice Layer larger." In less than a minute, the Ice Layer was filled with people standing on it, those who didn’t make it stayed in the water, shouting at the Warhammer team.
"If you are asking for help, then act like it, don’t be too arrogant!" Dantai raised his leg, and with one kick, sent someone’s head plunging back into the Seawater.
"Ruan Feifei, unleash electricity."
The female anchor, originally worried about accidentally injuring someone, cast aside her concerns upon hearing Tang Zheng’s order. Her arm swung towards the sea, and with a crackle, blue Thunder shot into it, instantly spreading across the surface.
The Mutated Beasts were electrocuted, churning more fiercely and creating large waves that fell like rain.
The survivors sensed trouble, hastily raised their Barriers, but some were too slow and were electrified, paralyzed all over. If the female anchor hadn’t been so weak, it would have been a disaster.
"Don’t wait, everyone get to shore!" Natasha, observing that those with mediocre abilities were slacking, spoke harshly, "There’s too many Mutated Creatures, they just can’t be exhausted."
"Group Leader Tang, let’s cooperate. You provide the platform, we’ll fight."
The Group Leaders, seeing they could not shirk their duties any longer, started to contribute. The formidable Warhammer team naturally became the primary target for cooperation.
Seeing those large groups wooing the Warhammer team, those nearly wiped out were filled with envy and resentment, especially seeing someone like Li Huiwen who couldn’t even burst seed, living more luxuriously, which infuriated them even more.
Despite the appearance of a few mini-BOSSes, they couldn’t stop the survivors’ progress. With Full firepower, it took only five minutes to successfully reach the shore.
The Japanese stayed behind, not daring to pursue rashly, because the Mutated Creatures would attack them indiscriminately too. Unfortunately, infecting Trojans wasn’t enough to completely control them.
"Where to next?" Natasha had the Defense Type build a Defense Line, then asked Silver Hair, "Give us your intelligence."
"How would I know?" Silver Hair’s answer almost infuriated everyone, "But it’s probably on the tower of Babylon!"
"What have you guys been up to before? If I had known it would be like this, I would not have been so eager to Enter Hero Mode." Warcraft Brother wished he could slaughter this guy; he was too unreliable.
"Stop arguing, head towards that tower." Natasha had anticipated this situation, she had planned to scan Babylon to locate the enemy’s Old Nest, but was blocked, yet she wasn’t in a hurry.
Vasily’s Group Members saluted and immediately got moving. Stalin launched a modified war chariot, clearly planning an assault!
Mutated Beasts relied on their numbers, but it was a pointless tactic against strong teams, only causing some drain on Life Energy.
Half an hour passed, and the battle was still at a standstill.
The numerical advantage of the Warhammer team finally began to show, splitting into three squads for rotation, which made things much easier compared to the other teams.
"We found that guys’ Old Nest!" Suddenly, a Trojan announcement blared from the Wristwatch, bringing wild joy to everyone’s faces! (To be continued.
