Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Otherwise, He Can’t Be At Ease
But with the cold, the discomfort in Xu Jinzhi’s body also made her feel exhausted mentally, and her longing for Xie Yanchuan began to spiral out of control.
Even for a fleeting moment, Xu Jinzhi felt like she did when she was on the verge of death in her past life.
That’s why she was so desperate to come back, hence the overtime work from the past two days.
Xie Yanchuan was clearly angry now, and as Xu Jinzhi spoke, he just silently drove the car, showing no intention of engaging with her.
In fact, he didn’t know what he had to be angry about. Xu Jinzhi had caught a cold, but even if she had told him at the time, what could he have done?
He couldn’t be by her side immediately; he needed to file a report before going abroad, and he couldn’t just leave whenever he wanted.
Apart from verbal concern, there was nothing he could do.
But could verbal concern make Xu Jinzhi’s cold get better?
It couldn’t.
Yet even so, Xie Yanchuan still felt it was wrong, and Xu Jinzhi should have told him.
While Xie Yanchuan was brooding, the constantly talking Xu Jinzhi suddenly started coughing, snapping Xie Yanchuan back to reality as he glanced her way.
Xu Jinzhi’s throat was terribly itchy, and once she started coughing, it seemed relentless.
As Xie Yanchuan was driving, seeing her condition, he immediately pulled over to the side of the road. He didn’t have water at hand, but he remembered there was some in the trunk.
So, after parking the car, Xie Yanchuan quickly got out, retrieved a bottle of mineral water from the trunk, and returned to the car.
Xie Yanchuan hurriedly opened the bottle of mineral water and handed it to Xu Jinzhi.
At this moment, Xu Jinzhi was still coughing, unable to quell the itch in her throat. She took the water and drank a few sips, then finally stopped coughing.
"Feeling better now?" Xie Yanchuan, no longer able to stay mad, asked with concern.
Xu Jinzhi didn’t look at Xie Yanchuan but just nodded frantically. Due to the coughing, her face had turned red, and she seemed to be struggling for breath.
And Xu Jinzhi still felt an unbearable itch in her throat, making her quite uncomfortable.
Xie Yanchuan watched Xu Jinzhi and felt that her condition was not good. "We should go to the hospital first."
"Isn’t that unnecessary? I have some medicine with me." Xu Jinzhi frowned slightly. She didn’t really want to go through the trouble of a hospital visit.
"You’ve been ill for many days and it’s still not better. We should go to the hospital." Xie Yanchuan wasn’t sure how she had been treated abroad, but he wouldn’t be at ease without a visit to the hospital now.
Xu Jinzhi wanted to refuse, but Xie Yanchuan’s expression was quite stern. Looking at him, she ultimately couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
Xu Jinzhi wasn’t coughing anymore, and Xie Yanchuan started the car and drove off, but this time, their destination was the hospital.
On the way to the hospital, Xu Jinzhi looked out the car window, suddenly said with some excitement, "Xie Yanchuan, City A is snowing too."
Xie Yanchuan had naturally noticed the snowflakes falling from the sky. He was still feeling a bit suffocated, but he couldn’t bear to give Xu Jinzhi the cold shoulder.
"Uh-huh," Xie Yanchuan responded, then feeling his softened attitude wasn’t obvious enough, continued, "It already snowed a few days ago."
"Snow is pretty, but I don’t like it when it snows. It’s too cold," Xu Jinzhi complained.
Xie Yanchuan knew that Xu Jinzhi was afraid of the cold; she had mentioned it before.
The hospital was quite close, barely a ten-minute drive away, but the hospital was crowded, and Xie Yanchuan didn’t want to ask for help. Concerned that Xu Jinzhi might feel uncomfortable waiting, he took her directly to the VIP clinic instead.
The results came out quickly. Xu Jinzhi’s resistance was low, compounded by lack of rest, her cold had lingered and wasn’t getting better, and now she had developed pharyngitis.
In short, it was a common illness, but it was best for her to rest well for the next few days.
Even a minor cold, if dragged out like this, could become a problem.
After they re-prescribed some medicine, Xie Yanchuan took Xu Jinzhi back home.
On the way, Xu Jinzhi received a call from her father, guessing that Assistant Chen and others had returned to the company and been seen by Xu Zhen.
Xu Zhen hadn’t seen his precious daughter for a while and called to invite her to dinner that night, but Jinzhi hesitated before declining.
She was aware of her pale complexion and didn’t want to worry her father unnecessarily.
Better to rest well today and talk about it tomorrow.
Xu Zhen, unaware of Xu Jinzhi’s illness, thought she just wanted to spend time with Xie Yanchuan. Although he didn’t say much, he couldn’t help but let out a cold snort.
Xu Jinzhi knew her father was once again "holding a grudge" against Xie Yanchuan. She felt somewhat helpless inside, but she didn’t defend Xie Yanchuan, letting him bear the blame for now.
When they got home, it was still early, and the housekeeper had just begun preparing dinner.
But Xu Jinzhi was already feeling hungry; during her business trip, she barely ate three meals a day. Now that she was back, she could finally enjoy a normal meal.
Xu Jinzhi smiled at Xie Yanchuan and said, "I would like to eat what you cook."
Xie Yanchuan didn’t say much, only asking Jinzhi to sit in the living room for a while as he headed to the kitchen.
The housekeeper, seeing Xie Yanchuan ready to cook, was somewhat nervous at first, worried whether they had any complaints about her, and tentatively asked Xie Yanchuan.
Xie Yanchuan lightly explained, "It’s not about you; she just wants to eat the dishes I cook."
The housekeeper thought she might be imagining things, but it seemed like there was a hint of a smile on her husband’s lips when he spoke, as if he felt honored that his wife liked to eat the food he prepared.
Knowing it wasn’t about her, the housekeeper breathed a sigh of relief since she felt her job at this house was pretty good.
While Xie Yanchuan was cooking, Jinzhi cozily curled up on the sofa without moving, her luggage left carelessly in a corner. Feeling unwell, she didn’t want to bother with it.
Xie Yanchuan knew Jinzhi had been forcing herself to keep going and ought to let her eat something and then take her medication before resting early.
However, Xu Jinzhi would need a light diet now, and the housekeeper had already prepared soup in advance. Xie Yanchuan quickly whipped up two dishes, and in just over ten minutes, dinner was ready.
The two sat down at the dining table to eat when Jinzhi’s phone rang. Picking up the phone, she saw it was an unfamiliar number.
Xu Jinzhi hesitated while looking at the phone. The call was to her private number, which normally only acquaintances would know.
After a moment’s hesitation, Jinzhi answered the call.
"Hello," she said with a somewhat hoarse voice, and then waited for the person on the other end to speak.
A moment later, a woman’s voice came through the phone, "Miss Xu, hello. I am Lin Chu."
"Lin Chu?" Xu Jinzhi questioned.
