Chapter 61: The War Goddess: A Meeting with Erika (2)
Meanwhile the conversation between Sera and Erika continued, two women who work in One Guild were chatting with each other.
"Did you read the article about the Guild Master’s secret boyfriend defeating the Young Demon?"
"Yeah, I read it in Guild’s PageBook Group."
"I was also shocked by the information."
"It’s a huge scandal, and it will surely cause a commotion."
"The Guild Master dating someone is a huge issue, and it is an even bigger issue when her boyfriend is a no-name player and is not a part of the guild."
"It’s a real problem."
"Yeah, if this info somehow gets to the media, there will be a huge shit show."
"That’s why it’s our responsibility, as the staff, to make sure that the information does not spread and get into the wrong hands."
"Yeah, you are right."
Both of them were walking, and their steps were brisk.
"Did you hear?"
Suddenly, a male voice was heard from one of the staff passing by the two women.
"Yeah."
One of the women replied, and her voice was quiet.
"That guy defeated Young Demon, and now everyone is calling him the ’New Demon,’ and they are saying that he is stronger than the Young Demon."
"No, not that," the male staff denied, and his voice was calm. "Check the group again; there are new posts."
"Hmm, alright."
Both of the women simultaneously stopped walking, and one of them took out her phone from the pocket of her clothes.
Her fingers quickly moved, sliding on the screen.
"Ah, here."
She exclaimed, and her voice was surprised.
"What is it?"
The other woman inquired, and her tone was curious.
"Read."
The woman instructed, and her voice was firm.
"Alright."
The woman whose expression was curious walked closer to her friend, and she was standing next to her.
The screen was turned, and it was facing her.
The woman slowly leaned forward, and her eyes were focusing on the content of the screen.
Her gaze moved left and right, scanning the text on the phone.
"This is."
She started, and her tone was baffled.
"Impossible."
Her expression was shocked, and her voice was flabbergasted.
"This is the image of the ’New Demon’?"
Her mind was unable to comprehend the information, and her thoughts were confused.
"Yeah, the photo is spreading like wildfire," the male staff spoke, and his tone was serious. "Everyone is freaking out."
"He is so handsome."
The female staff murmured, and her voice was amazed.
"Yeah, he is," the male staff agreed, and his voice was calm. "Even though his name is not mentioned."
"Yeah, his face is the only thing that is shown."
The female staff stated, and her voice was curious.
"Yeah, that is why they are now calling him the ’Handsome Devil.’"
"Wow, he really is a handsome devil."
The woman exclaimed, and her tone was impressed.
"I know, right."
The male staff concurred, and his voice was proud.
"This guy is not only strong but also super handsome."
"He is a perfect man," the woman holding the phone commented, and her voice was astonished. "Now, I understand why Miss Sera chose him."
"Yeah, the Guild Master has good taste."
"No, it’s not just her," the woman, who was staring at the screen, argued, and her tone was excited. "He is a man that everyone wants."
"I would also fall for him," she added, and her tone was enamored.
As those three were walking and talking, a figure wearing a black suit could be seen standing in front of the door of the room in which Sera and Erika were talking.
Leo was standing next to the door, and his gaze was locked onto the three staff who were chatting with each other.
He had heard the entire conversation, and his expression was grim.
"You guys."
He started, and his voice was firm.
"Who are you guys gossiping about?"
His tone was casual, and his voice was friendly.
"Umm."
The three subconsciously raised their heads, and they looked at the man who was towering over them.
They didn’t expect to find Leo standing there, and they were taken aback.
Their bodies suddenly became stiff, and their expressions were tensed.
"Who are you guys gossiping about, huh?"
Leo repeated his question, and his voice was kind.
"I, uh, it’s."
One of the women stammered, and her voice was embarrassed.
But before she could continue, Leo interrupted her, and his tone was casual.
"Do you think I didn’t hear you?"
He questioned, and his voice was friendly.
"You guys." Leo paused for a moment, and his gaze was piercing. "Aren’t you supposed to be working right now?"
Leo inquired, and his voice was polite.
"If you don’t, then I can fire you."
His words were cold, and his tone was menacing.
"Please forgive us."
The three immediately lowered their heads, and their voices were apologetic.
"We will work harder."
Their tone was earnest, and their voice was humble.
"Alright, get back to work, and don’t slack off."
Leo instructed, and his tone was commanding.
"Yes, sir."
The three responded, and their voices were respectful.
"Okay, get going."
Leo ordered, and his voice was gentle.
"Yes, sir."
The three acknowledged, and their tone was firm.
After that, they all walked away, and they went towards the direction from which they came.
As they were doing that, Leo’s eyes were watching the retreating figures.
He continued to watch until the trio disappeared, and he couldn’t see them anymore.
"Phew!" A relieved sigh escaped from his mouth.
"That was a close one."
He whispered, and his voice was gentle.
’It would be embarrassing if they had found me eavesdropping into the conversation of Miss Sera and Miss Erika.’
He thought as he glanced at the white door of the room in which the two women were having a conversation.
’Now,’
He continued to speak in his mind, and his tone was casual.
’...that they are gone, I should continue...’
He moved closer to the door, and he was standing near it.
’Listening,’
He placed both of his hands on the door and brought his ear closer to the white surface.
’...to their conversation.’
His action was slow, and his movements were careful.
After doing that, his ear was touching the surface, and his gaze was focused on the marble floor.
’Miss Erika was talking about Amelia, and Miss Sera seemed to be very concerned about her,’
He recalled the words from a few moments ago.
’Now, let’s see what else they are talking about.’
His expression was calm, and his tone was serious.
He focused his attention on the words, which were being said, behind the door, and he was ready to listen to the continuation of the conversation.
"I understand,"
’Huh,’
Suddenly, his thoughts were startled, and his mind was alarmed.
’Was that Miss Sera’s voice?’
He wondered, and his tone was confused.
’What does she understand?’
’What did Miss Erika say to her?’
He was pondering, and his thoughts were bewildered.
’I must have missed the previous words, so that’s why I am not sure,’
"I will send the most trusted members of the guild and make sure that Amelia’s safety is secured."
’Oh,’
Leo’s thoughts were enlightened, and his mind was calmed.
’So, that’s what she meant,’
He thought, and his tone was relieved.
’I thought it was something else,’
’And that’s why I was startled,’
He chuckled, and his tone was cheerful.
’I must be overthinking,’
"Thank you, Sera; I will be forever indebted to you,"
Erika’s tone was grateful, and her voice was full of emotion.
Leo was still eavesdropping, and he was listening to the conversation.
"Don’t mention it; it is the least that I could do for you, Miss Erika."
Sera’s tone was warm, and her voice was gentle.
"Well then, I must take my leave,"
Erika stated, and her tone was solemn.
"It was a pleasure talking to you again, Sera."
"The pleasure is all mine, Miss Erika," Sera replied, and her tone was humble.
’Hmm,’
Leo was contemplating, and his mind was pondering.
’It seems like their conversation is over, and they are going to come out at any moment now,’
’I must pretend that I was not eavesdropping on them,’
His thoughts were resolute, and his mind was firm.
He quickly turned around, his black suit rustling softly as he pivoted on his heel.
Leo positioned himself at the side of the door, strategically blending into the ambient shadows of the hallway.
His tall frame stood erect, and his sharp eyes scanned the corridor, ensuring no one witnessed his clandestine activities.
’Phew, thank God no one saw me,’ he whispered in his mind, his heartbeat gradually returning to its normal rhythm.
Leo took a moment to compose himself, adjusting his tie with a subtle flick to maintain an air of casual nonchalance.
As he maintained his vigilance, the distant murmur of guild members served as background noise, shielding his discreet eavesdropping from prying ears.
The soft rustling of his black suit was a subtle reminder of the need for discretion, each movement calculated to maintain the appearance of casual nonchalance.
As seconds ticked by, Leo’s sharp eyes continued their watchful sweep of the surroundings. The corridor remained deserted, a stroke of luck that allowed his covert activities to go unnoticed.
Just as Leo prepared to seamlessly transition into innocence, the white door creaked open. Sera and Erika emerged, their conversation evidently concluded. Leo greeted them with a genial smile as his head bowed respectfully.
"I see that your conversation has ended."
He stated, his voice courteous and his tone was affable.
Sera’s purple hair cascaded down her back, swaying gently as she turned towards him. She looked at him, and her gaze met his.
"Yes, it did," she confirmed, and her tone was gentle.
"We had a nice talk,"
Sera’s tone was amiable, and her voice was pleasant.
Erika didn’t utter a single word, and she only gave a slight nod of her head.
Her silver hair was hanging down her back, reaching beneath her waist.
There was a small smile on her face, and her eyes were warm.
But Leo could see that her smile was strained; his sharp eyes could detect the subtle signs of sorrow in the older woman’s eyes, and he could sense her hidden pain.
’She must have been very emotional when she was talking with Miss Sera,’
He thought, and his tone was sympathetic.
Leo remembered the conversation, which he had eavesdropped on.
’So, that’s why she didn’t talk much and just nodded her head,’
’That must be the reason,’
’She is worried for her daughter, and she can’t keep her emotions under control,’
’It must be difficult for her,’
’Having a daughter who is so talented but can’t even live her life freely,’
’It’s such a shame,’
Leo was pondering, and his tone was sad.
Suddenly, his thoughts were interrupted, and his mind was snapped back to reality.
"It was nice to see you again, Sera," Erika finally spoke; her tone was gentle, and her voice was kind.
"But, I should get going now," she announced, and her voice was gentle.
"Let’s go; I will escort you outside," Sera offered, and both of the women walked away, heading towards the elevator.
"Thank you," Erika accepted, and her tone was gracious.
"Don’t mention it," Sera responded, and her tone was casual.
"See you again soon, Miss Erika," Leo wished, and his tone was friendly.
He bowed 90 degrees, and his movements were courteous.
"Likewise," Erika’s voice was soft, and her tone was gentle.
The two were moving away, and Leo was standing there.
As his gaze was locked onto the retreating figures, his mind was lost in thought.
’Amelia, huh?’
’I wonder what kind of most trusted members Miss Sera will choose,’
’I hope they are strong and capable,’
’Otherwise, the whole world will turn into a wasteland if something were to happen to Amelia.’
Leo thought as he placed his left foot on the wall and leaned his body backward against the hard surface.
He placed his hand inside his pants pocket, and his gaze was fixed on the corner between the ground and the wall.
’Miss Erika may seem like a nice person, but she has a hidden dark side and is extremely dangerous,’
’If she is pushed to the brink, she would become ruthless and merciless,’
’She wouldn’t hesitate to destroy the world and go against all SSS-class players, just to protect her daughter,’
’After all, she has done it before,’
A cold shiver ran through Leo’s spine as he recalled the terrifying events of the past.
’She is truly an extremely scary person,’
He whispered in his mind, and his thoughts were frightened.
’She didn’t even forgive any of the family members of the murders of her husbands and didn’t hesitate to kill them, no matter what their gender, age, or status was.’
As Leo was in deep thoughts, and he was remembering the history, he was suddenly interrupted, and his train of thought was broken.
Chee...chluk!
A chime was heard, and the phone in his pocket vibrated.
’Hmm,’
Leo took the phone out, and his fingers swiftly moved.
His eyes quickly skimmed the message.
’Huh,’
Leo’s brows furrowed, and his thoughts were baffled.
’A message from Miss Sera?’
On the screen, a notification was displayed, informing him of a new text.
’Hmm,’
Leo moved his index finger across the screen.
A new message was now visible, and it was from Sera.
’What is it; didn’t she leave to escort Miss Erika?’
He wondered, and his tone was confused.
He pressed on the message, and the content was now displayed.
-Guild Master-
-Bring Rael and Selene into my office. I will be there shortly.-
"Huh?!!"
Leo’s expression was flabbergasted, and his tone was incredulous.
"Wait?!!!"
His tone was shocked, and his voice was flustered.
"Why both of them together?!"
