Chapter 52: The War Goddess: Just Some Talking

Next day...

The sun was casting its golden rays on the One Guild’s building, and the city was buzzing with activity.

People were walking and going about their day, and the roads were filled with vehicles and traffic.

Inside the One Guild’s office, on the top floor, the president was sitting behind her desk, and her expression was calm.

Next to her, was the assistant, Leo, and his face was serious.

"So, the Dragon Slayer guild has been wiped out,"

Sitting on her chair, the president, Sera, sighed, and her shoulders slumped.

"Then, why didn’t you inform me yesterday?"

She was looking at Leo, and her expression was grave.

"I wanted to," Leo responded, and his expression was apologetic, "But, whenever I tried to call you, it would always get rejected."

"Oh,"

Sera blushed, and she averted her gaze.

"Um, yeah, sorry about that,"

She mumbled, and her face was turning a deeper shade of red.

’Mom had confiscated my phone, telling me that I was not allowed to have it when I am on a date with Rael, so, that is why Leo couldn’t reach me,’

’That is such an embarrassing thing to say out loud,’

"Also," Leo spoke up, breaking the silence, "When I went to your house to inform you in person, aunt just kicked me out, saying; ’Do not disturb my daughter’s sweet time’,"

"I-I see,"

Sera coughed, and her face was still crimson.

"Sorry about that,"

"It is okay," Leo waved her off, and his expression was neutral.

’S-sweet time? Seriously, Mom?’ Sera was flustered, and her face was burning.

"Anyways," Leo continued, his voice was professional, and his face was stern, "Shouldn’t we talk about the situation now?"

"Yeah," Sera nodded, and she was trying her best to compose herself.

’Alright, leave Rael’s face and sweet words for later, Sera,’

’Focus on the matter at hand,’

’Remember, we are here for business,’

And thinking so, Sera initiated the business talk.

"So, the Dragon Slayer guild has been destroyed," She repeated and her eyes were focused on the man in front of her.

"Yes," Leo confirmed, and his expression was grim, "Their base has been obliterated, and all the members have been brutally killed."

"Brutally killed?" Sera was taken aback, and her eyes were wide.

"Yeah," Leo nodded, and his voice was low, "The members’ bodies were torn apart, and the blood was splattered all over the place, not only that some of them even had their arms pulled out and legs sliced off,"

"That is horrible,"

Sera was disgusted, and her face was pale.

"Do you have any idea who did it?"

"No," Leo replied, and his voice was cold, "It was not the work of any player or a guild, that is for sure,"

"How can you be so sure?" Sera asked, and her tone was hesitant.

"Because," Leo stated, his eyes were narrowed, and his expression was grave, "It was not the work of a human."

"Not a human?" Sera was confused, and her eyes were narrowed, "What do you mean?"

"This is an example of the massacre that happened yesterday at Dragon Slayer Guild," Leo answered, and he showed the pictures of the scene to Sera.

"What?!"

Sera exclaimed, and her voice was full of shock.

"This can’t be," She murmured, and her brows were furrowed, "How is this possible?"

"I don’t know," Leo said, and his voice was laced with irritation, "But, that is the truth."

After witnessing the destruction shown in the picture Sera immediately ordered Leo to investigate the scene.

"We need to investigate this," Sera decided, and her expression was determined, "This is a huge threat, and it needs to be addressed immediately."

"Yes, Miss Sera," Leo agreed, and his eyes were blazing with fury.

"This can’t be tolerated, and the One Guild will deal with this issue with all of our power."

"Indeed," Sera nodded, and her voice was calm, "We will hunt down this monster, and make sure to eradicate it,"

"I agree," Leo’s expression was resolute, and his face was fierce.

"But, before that," Sera said, and her voice was hesitant, "There is something that..." She paused, and her eyes were filled with uncertainty.

"What is it?" Leo questioned, and his gaze was inquiring.

"H-how is he doing?" Sera blurted out, her cheeks were a light pink.

"Who?" Leo asked, and his tone was confused.

"You know, ’He’," Sera replied, and her face was getting warmer.

"Him,"

"Oh, ’him’,"

Realization dawned upon Leo, and his expression was serious.

"He is doing fine," he said, and his tone was soft, "For now we are testing his physical abilities,"

"I see," Sera’s lips curled into a smile, and her tone was relieved, "I just hope he turns out to be stronger than an A-class,"

"Huh? Why?" Leo was bewildered, and his expression was puzzled.

"B-because,"

Sera stammered, and her face was red.

"W-well, the thing is,"

"Hmm?" Leo raised his eyebrow, and his gaze was questioning.

"If he is not stronger than an A-class, then..."

Sera trailed off, and her voice was low.

"Then, what?" Leo prodded, and his voice was urging.

’Then, he will be killed by my enemies after our marriage,’

Sera thought, and her heart sank.

"Nothing,"

She sighed, and her shoulders slumped.

"Never mind,"

’If he is not strong enough, then, I will have to keep him close, and protect him,’

’Or, maybe, I will have to keep him far away from me, and hide him somewhere safe,’

’Either way, he will be a target,’

’A target of my enemies,’

’And, a potential weak link, who will lead them to me,’

Thinking that, she placed her elbows on the table and buried her face into her hands.

’God, please let him be stronger than an A-class.’

’Strong enough, to not be killed, and strong enough, to protect himself. Strong enough, to survive, and be by my side,’

’Please, just let him be stronger than an A-Class, and everything will be alright.’

And so, Sera hoped.

Meanwhile, on one of the lower floors of the One Guild’s building, in a large room, filled with various types of magical equipment and machinery, was Rael.

"So, what do I have to do again?"

Rael asked, and his voice was curious.

He was standing next at the center of the room, and his expression was uncertain.

Above him, on the roof, eight big lights were illuminating the whole area.

They were embedded into the ceiling, and their beams of light were falling down on everything below them.

"It is simple,"

A girl was standing in front of Rael, and she had a warm smile on her face.

She was dressed in a white shirt and a pair of black pants.

Her skin was smooth, and her hair was silky.

"All you have to do is fight. Simple, right?"

"Yeah, but, fighting what?"

Rael was still confused, and he was eyeing the girl with skepticism.

"A simulation, of course," The girl chuckled, and her eyes were sparkling, "You will be fighting some imaginary opponents, and all the damages you inflict, will be calculated by the machine,"

"I see," Rael nodded, and his tone was thoughtful.

"Well, it doesn’t seem hard," He stated, and his voice was confident.

"Of course, it won’t be," The girl agreed, and her expression was cheerful, "It is a simple test, and you will do fine,"

"Okay, then, I guess, I will give it a shot,"

Rael shrugged, and in response, the girl took a step closer to him and placed her hand on his chest.

"Hmm?" Rael raised his eyebrow, and his voice was confused, "What are you doing, miss?"

"Oh, nothing," The girl quickly took her hand off him, and a blush appeared on her face.

"It... I was just checking your heartbeat, yeah heartbeat."

"My heartbeat? Alright," Rael accepted the explanation, and his expression was indifferent, "You must have your reasons, right?"

"Y-yes," The girl stammered, and she averted her gaze.

"Anyway, should we begin the test now?" She inquired, and her voice was polite.

"Sure," Rael agreed, and his expression was composed.

"I have nothing else to do, anyway,"

"Alright," The girl sighed, and she walked towards the door, "I will just stand here, and watch. Remember only fight using your physical abilities." saying that, she positioned herself closer to the door.

"Okay," Rael nodded, and his expression was relaxed.

"Begin the simulation," The girl instructed, and her voice was firm.

{Starting the simulation} A robotic voice replied, and the room began to change.

The ground began to morph and shape, and the walls began to fade away.

The room began to expand, and the ceiling became higher.

Everything began to look like a vast plain, with tall grass, and a blue sky.

And, the girl was nowhere to be seen.

{Simulation complete}The robotic voice announced.
