Chapter 51: The War Goddess: Slices of Some Life (3)

After running away from Rael, and leaving him behind, Sera subconsciously stepped on the escalator and was heading towards the top floor.

Her heart was beating wildly, and her mind was still reeling.

She was trying to calm herself down, but the effect of the young man’s words was still lingering inside her mind, and she couldn’t get rid of them.

’Why does he have to be such a smooth talker?’

She thought as the escalator began to move, and she was ascending towards the upper floor.

’He is too good at flirting,’

’It is so damn unfair,’

’I also want to learn how to flirt, so that I can make him blush, and be the one teasing him,’

’I don’t like being the one getting teased,’

With that, her brows furrowed, and a frown appeared on her face.

"Hey, Sera," A voice called out to her, and she was snapped out of her thoughts.

She turned around and saw that Rael was standing at the ground level, and was looking up at her.

"What is it?"

She asked, her tone was laced with irritation, and her expression was sullen.

"Why did you leave me behind?"

Rael’s question was filled with innocence, and he was wearing a puppy-dog look.

"Because you are too annoying," Sera answered, and her response was a bit harsh.

"Ouch," Rael feigned hurt, and his tone was laced with sarcasm, "That hurt."

"Good,"

Sera’s reply was curt, and her expression was serious.

"Anyway, hurry up, and come here,"

She said, her voice was soft, and she was trying her best to sound nice.

"Yes, but, how do I do that?"

Rael inquired, and his expression was puzzled.

"Oh," Sera let out a small gasp, and her eyes went wide.

’Wait, he doesn’t know how to use an escalator?’

She realized, and she was at a loss for words.

"Um," She said, her tone was hesitant, and her eyes were darting around the area, "Do you not know how to use the escalator?"

"Nope," Rael shrugged, and his reply was casual.

There were other people who were also getting on and off the escalator, and he had seen them do it.

But, the thing was, he didn’t want to just step onto the escalator and just ride it.

Instead, he wanted to have some fun.

So, he pretended to not know how to use it, so that Sera would teach him, and they would come close.

It was a simple yet effective plan.

And so, after reaching the upper floor, Sera told him to place one foot on the step, and then, the other one.

And, he obeyed her instructions.

"Like this?" Rael asked as he placed his left foot on the step, and then, he put his right foot on the step below it.

"Yeah, just like that,"

Sera nodded as she watched Rael.

And, when she saw him successfully get onto the escalator, a satisfied expression appeared on her face.

’Good,’

She thought, and her lips curled into a smile.

’At least, I am able to teach him something.’

’I should be able to show him around the mall without any hiccups, after all.’

"Okay," Sera said, as the escalator neared the top, and Rael was about to step onto the upper floor.

"We will go to the food court, and we will have a little snack,"

"Sounds good," Rael agreed, and his expression was eager, "I am quite hungry,"

"Then, let’s go,"

Sera said as they both walked toward the food court.

And, the mall was bustling with people, and it was packed with various shops and stores.

From clothes to electronics, and toys, there were different types of merchandise and different kinds of brands.

There were also cafes and restaurants, and the atmosphere was lively and energetic.

The crowd was big, and the mall was crowded.

"So, what do you want to eat?" Sera asked as they arrived at the food court, and she was scanning the various kinds of cuisines and meals that were available.

"I don’t know," Rael replied, and his tone was uncertain, "I am not familiar with the food of this place,"

"Then, I will decide," Sera decided, and her gaze shifted towards the food stands.

"How about some burgers?"

"Burgers?" Rael repeated, and his eyes widened.

"Yeah," Sera nodded, and her expression was bright, "Let’s get some burgers and fries,"

"Okay," Rael agreed and smiled at the girl.

"Great," Sera smiled back, and her face was glowing.

’This is going to be fun.’

And, the two of them got their food and began to enjoy their meal.

"Oh," Sera gasped, as she saw the burger in Rael’s hands, and her eyes went wide, "You can’t eat it like that,"

"Huh?"

Rael was confused, and he didn’t know what the girl was talking about.

"What do you mean?"

"You have to hold it like this," Sera stated, and she took the burger from his hand.

"Look, you have to hold it like this," She said, and she showed him the proper way to hold the burger.

"See, this way, the ketchup won’t spill out, and will not make a mess,"

"Okay,"

Rael nodded, and he was listening carefully.

"Now, take a bite,"

Sera instructed, and her eyes were twinkling.

"Munch, munch,"

Rael bit into the burger, and his eyes lit up.

"Wow, this is delicious,"

"Yeah," Sera replied, and a smile appeared on her face, "Burgers are always the best,"

"Yep,"

Rael agreed, and he continued to eat the burger.

"Oh, right,"

Sera’s eyes were glued to the drink in Rael’s hand, and she remembered something.

"You should also drink some soda,"

"Soda?" Rael was a bit hesitant, and his expression was doubtful, "Is it really that good?"

"Don’t tell me you didn’t even have soda before let alone a burger,"

Sera gasped, and her tone was incredulous.

"Yeah," Rael admitted, and his voice was a bit ashamed.

"I never tasted anything like that,"

"Then, it is time you try it," Sera stated, and her face was determined.

"Try this,"

She opened the lid and handed him a can of coke, her expression was full of excitement.

"Take a sip,"

Rael hesitated for a moment, and then, he brought the can to his lips.

"Mmm,"

His eyes widened, and his expression was filled with delight.

"This is amazing,"

"I know right?"

Sera grinned, and she was looking happy.

"It is my favorite drink,"

"Yeah,"

Rael’s response was muffled, and he was busy chugging down the soda.

"It is really delicious,"

"It is,"

Sera agreed, and she took a sip of her coke.

"Anyway,"

She continued, and her tone was thoughtful, "What is your favorite food, Rael?"

"Hmm,"

Rael paused, and he was thinking hard.

’My favorite food?’

He mused, and he was recalling all the delicious dishes that he had eaten in the past.

’It is the one that you would always make for me in our past life,’

He thought, his eyes glancing at the girl sitting in front of him.

’Your homemade cooking.’

"I don’t have any favorites,"

He replied, and his voice was soft, "I have tried a lot of foods, and I have no preference."

"Really?"

Sera’s eyes lit up, and her interest was piqued.

"Do you have any interesting stories to share?"

"I don’t have any specific ones," Rael shook his head, and his tone was nonchalant, "I just liked to travel and eat all kinds of food."

’Well, including evil human’s meat and other weird dishes, and that includes your homemade food, sweetie.’

"Oh,"

Sera was a bit disappointed, but she still had a smile on her face.

"I was hoping you would tell me a few interesting stories, about your travels,"

"I am sorry, but, I can’t do that,"

Rael shook his head, and his expression was apologetic.

"Why not?"

Sera asked, and she was curious.

"No particular reason," Rael replied, and his expression was calm, "I just don’t want to bore you,"

"Oh,"

Sera nodded, and her face was thoughtful.

"That’s fine, I guess,"

She said, and she took a sip of her Coke.

"Let’s finish our meal,"

"Okay,"

Rael agreed, and he bit into the burger.

’Hmm, he isn’t gonna tell me anything, huh?’

Sera thought, and her expression was pensive.

’Maybe, I will find out more, after we get home,’

’Or, maybe, I will find out something by just looking around his room,’

’Who knows, I might even find a clue about his past and his background,’

’I should definitely go check his room, later tonight,’

’I just hope he isn’t an enemy or a threat,’

’I hope he is just a normal, and ordinary guy, who I can rely on, and who I can trust,’

With that, she sighed, and her shoulders slumped.

’The only guy who made my heart beat fast can’t be a bad guy, right? Right?’

Sera looked at the young man, who was munching on his fries, and a warm feeling spread through her body.

’Ugh, why does he look so handsome with his hair tied up in a ponytail?’

Her face turned a deep shade of red, and her heartbeat increased.

’Damn it, Rael,’

’You are making me fall for you, with your cute and handsome face, and with your smooth and charming words,’

’What do I do?’

’You are too dangerous,’

’Please, just be a good and decent person,’

’Don’t turn out to be an enemy, and don’t do anything bad,’

’Don’t make me hate you,’

’I don’t want to kill you,’

"Something wrong, Sera?"

Rael asked as he looked at the girl with concern.

"Huh?"

Sera snapped out of her thoughts, and she stared at the man with wide eyes.

"N-no, nothing,"

She stammered, and her face was flushed.

"I was just lost in my thoughts,"

"Is that so?"

Rael inquired, and his tone was laced with curiosity.

"Then, what were you thinking about?"

"Nothing," Sera quickly dismissed the topic, and she averted her gaze.

"Just random thoughts, really,"

"Oh, okay,"

Rael shrugged, and his expression was indifferent.

"Let’s finish our food,"

He said, and he took a bite of his burger.

"Yes,"

Sera nodded, and she continued to eat her meal.

And, while the two of them were eating, they would occasionally steal glances at each other without the other noticing.

After a long day of walking and talking, the two finally headed back home.

"Finally, we are home,"

Sera sighed in relief, as she walked into the living room, and flopped down on the couch.

"I will just sleep here tonight,"

She murmured, and her eyelids were heavy.

"Okay, but, I think it is better if you sleep in your bed,"

Rael said, and he was wearing a gentle smile.

"But, I am too tired,"

Sera whined, and her tone was sulky.

"I will carry you to your room,"

Rael offered, and his voice was firm.

"W-will you? really?"

Sera stuttered, and her cheeks were pink.
