Chapter 49: The War Goddess: Slices of Some Life

The sun had begun to rise from its slumber, and the rays were beginning to seep through the darkness.

Its rays were falling from the east, and its light was illuminating the city.

The buildings, the streets, and the cars, everything was bathed in the light, and the city was coming alive.

But, despite the sun shining, and the morning arriving, the crescent moon was still visible.

It was like a faint shadow, hanging above the earth, and its presence was felt.

The sky was filled with the rays of the rising sun, and the moon was slowly fading away toward the horizon.

Its pale glow was still noticeable, but its strength was waning, and its influence was weakening.

The sun was now the main attraction, and its rays were shining upon the city, illuminating it.

On one side, the rays of the sun were falling and bathing the city, while on the other side, the shadows were casted.

The night was giving away, and the day was coming.

It was a beautiful and breathtaking sight, and the view was worth watching.

The green leaves of the trees were dancing in the wind, and the birds were chirping, and their sounds could be heard throughout the city.

It was a peaceful morning, and the whole world was waking up from its slumber.

The people were beginning their day, and the city was starting to come alive.

While, the night shift workers were coming back from their shifts and were heading back home, and the morning shift workers were coming out from their homes and were heading to work.

The cars were moving on the roads, and the people were walking in the streets.

The city was filled with the sound of life, and it was a wonderful and beautiful sight to behold.

"So, this is how it is," A man muttered, as he stared at the escalators leading to the the upper floor of the building.

His eyes were fixed on one specific girl, and his gaze was locked on her.

She was going up the stairs and was about to reach the top, where the elevators ended.

Her face was covered by the hood of her jacket, and her eyes were hidden behind the pair of sunglasses.

She was wearing a pair of black jeans, and a white T-shirt under her red jacket.

The outfit was casual, but it was a perfect fit for her.

It was hiding her face, and her features, and was helping her to blend in with the crowd.

She looked like an ordinary citizen, and no one would have thought that she was Sera, the SSS-Class Player, and the leader of the Guild, "One Guild".

Sera was an extremely popular figure, and her fame was not limited to her guild but had spread throughout the whole world.

She was a famous and respected figure, and her influence was known everywhere.

She had an extremely high reputation, and her name was known by almost everyone.

Even the government and the military knew her, and she was a very important person.

The fact that she was an SSS-Class Player also added to her popularity.

She was a strong, powerful, and charismatic leader, and was one of the most influential figures in the world.

People admired her, and they respected her.

"Yeah, it is how it is," She replied, as the escalator was nearing the top.

Sera’s eyes were locked on the man who was standing on the ground and was looking at her.

Her one hand was placed inside her jacket’s pocket, while her other hand was holding the railing.

"You don’t even know how to step onto an escalator." She said, as she reached the top, and was about to land on the upper floor.

A frown was visible on her face, and her eyes were filled with annoyance.

"Oh, is that so?" The man smiled, his expression was calm, and he didn’t seem to care about the girl’s attitude.

The man, who was talking to her, was wearing an orange T-shirt on which the words "Work Hard" were written in big letters.

And on his lower part, he was wearing a pair of brown cargo shorts.

He was wearing a pair of rubber slippers, and his silver hair was neatly tied into a ponytail.

His blue eyes were gleaming, and he was grinning from ear to ear.

It was Rael.

And, the reason why he was standing on the ground, was because he didn’t know how to use an escalator.

In the world, where he came from, there was no such thing as escalators, there were only stairs, and there was no need for these types of machines.

In fact, they didn’t even have the concept of the machine.

It was a magical world, a fantasy world filled with monsters and wonders.

And, in that world, there was no electricity, no technology, no modern conveniences, and no civilization.

But, in the world, where Rael was standing right now, there were cars, there were lights, and there were machines.

And, the world was filled with advanced technology, and it was ruled by science.

It was a totally different world, and Rael was a newcomer.

He was not used to the lifestyle and was still getting used to the new environment.

That’s why, he didn’t know how to use an escalator, or a computer, or anything related to the technology.

But, despite being a newbie transmigrator, he was adapting very well, and he was doing quite fine.

"Then, let me show you,"

He said, as his eyes shifted towards the escalators.

Sera was now on the upper floor, and she was still standing on the edge of the escalator.

She was waiting for Rael, and her eyes were fixed on him.

"Just put one foot on the step, and then, the other one," She said, as she moved a few steps away from the escalator for other people to get off.

"Like this?" Rael asked as he placed his left foot on the step, and then, he put his right foot on the step below it.

"Yeah, just like that,"

Sera nodded as she watched Rael.

And, when she saw him successfully get onto the escalator, a satisfied expression appeared on her face.

Today was Sunday, and it was the only day, where Sera had some free time, and could get a break from her work.

It was her day off, and she could spend her whole day doing whatever she wanted.

So, she was going to investigate Rael and try to learn about his true identity.

But...

This morning, something happened.

When Rael and Sera’s family met up for breakfast, her plans for the day suddenly changed.

Because, when her mother was placing the food on the table, she forced Sera to take Rael with her, to show him around the city.

"Sera," her mother said, as she was putting the last dish on the table, "It is Sunday, so, you aren’t that busy today, right?"

"Yeah, I do have one or two meetings in the evening, but I can cancel them," Sera replied, as she took her seat at the dining table.

"Good," Her mother smiled, and then, her gaze shifted towards the young man, sitting next to her daughter, "Rael, what are you going to do today?"

"I have nothing planned," Rael answered, as he began eating his breakfast, "I am new here so, I don’t know anything about this place."

"Hmm," her mother nodded her head, and then her gaze shifted back to Sera, "Then, it is decided. Sera will show you around the city today."

"What?" Sera looked up from her food, and a confused expression was plastered on her face.

"What do you mean, mom?"

"You are taking him around the city," her mother stated, as she began to eat her meal.

"But, I..."

Sera was about to argue, but her mother’s stern gaze stopped her.

"No, buts," she said, as she placed her spoon on the table, "You will show him around, and will make him feel welcome,"

"Yes, ma’am,"

Sera replied, and a defeated look appeared on her face.

"Good,"

Her mother nodded, and a smile appeared on her lips.

’Ah, I was going to go to the Magic Library and search about Rael,’

Sera sighed, as she remembered her plans.

’But, now, I will have to change my plans,’

’Looks like, I have no choice but to take him with me.’

’I will have to postpone the investigation, until tomorrow,’

With that thought in mind, she looked at Rael, who was busy eating his food.

He was munching on his eggs and stuffing his mouth with bacon and sausages.

’But, at least, I will be able to learn more about him,’

She thought, and her eyes narrowed.

’So, this will be a win-win situation for me.’

"By the way, Rael,"

Her mother’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

"Yes?" Rael’s response was muffled, due to his mouth being stuffed with food.

"You should start calling me mom,"

Her mother continued, her expression calm, and her tone gentle.

"I mean since you are going to be part of our family,"

"Huh?"

Sera was taken aback, and her eyes widened.

’What is mom talking about?’

She was confused, and couldn’t understand her mother’s intentions.

"Alright, Mom," Rael smiled, and his face was full of joy, "I will call you that from now on."

"That’s great," her mother replied, her tone cheerful.

’What? What is going on?’

Sera was getting more and more confused.

"But, mom," Sera interrupted, and her voice was a bit shaky, "Why are you telling this to him? And, why are you acting like we are getting married or something?"

"Ah," Her mother’s eyes lit up, and her face brightened, "That’s right. You guys are getting married."

"What?!"

Sera almost fell off her chair.

"Yes, of course," Her mother smiled, and her face was full of happiness, "Your father is going to retire soon, and he has decided to get you two married."

"Whaaaaaaat?!"

Sera’s eyes went wide, and her voice was filled with disbelief.

"No,"

Her face turned pale, and her whole body was trembling.

"It can’t be true."

"It is true," Her mother stated, and her voice was firm, "He is going to arrange your wedding in a few weeks."

"No, no, no," Sera was panicking, and her brain was short-circuiting.

’I am getting married? To him? No way.’

She was shocked, and her mind was racing.

’This can’t be true. It has to be a dream.’

"Hahaha," Rael was laughing, and he was clearly enjoying the situation, "Sera, you are going to become my wife,"

"Shut up," Sera’s eyes were burning, and her face was red.

’Shit, I planned to know about his true intentions, and to keep him under my watch,’

’But, this is going to complicate things,’

’No, this is bad,’

’I can’t let this happen,’

"Mom," She said, her voice low, and her tone serious, "There is no way, Dad would be that impatient,"

"He is," Her mother stated, and her tone was final, "You should listen to him, and obey him."

"But..."

"Enough," Her mother cut her off, her voice stern, and her gaze was cold, "Do not question your father’s decisions."

"Okay,"

Sera was at a loss for words.

She didn’t know what to say, or what to do.

’I should have to be fast and find out about him,’

’If he is not trustworthy, I should get rid of him as soon as possible,’

’And, if he is not a threat and is not someone dangerous, then, marrying him isn’t that bad of an idea, I think. He is pretty handsome after all,’

With that thought in mind, she glanced at Rael.

And, their eyes met.

’Oh shit, he is staring at me,’

Sera immediately looked away and tried to act nonchalant.

’Damn it, this is embarrassing.’

"Anyways,"

Sera said, and her tone was a bit nervous, "I will be taking him with me,"

"Yes," Her mother nodded, and her eyes were twinkling, "Make sure to show him everything, and introduce him to everyone,"

"Yes, Mom," Sera agreed, and then, she looked at Rael, "Finish your breakfast and get ready. We will be leaving in an hour."

"Alright," Rael grinned, and his smile was dazzling, "I will be looking forward to our date."

"Shut up, it is not a date,"

Sera blushed, and her face was flustered.

"Then, what is it?"

"A tour," Sera stated, and her voice was a bit shaky, "It is a tour."

"Oh, okay,"

Rael shrugged, and his expression was playful.

"A tour, then."

’Damn it,’

Sera cursed inwardly, and her face turned a shade darker.

’He is teasing me.’

"Anyway," Sera sighed, and her shoulders slumped down, "Just finish your breakfast."

"Yes, ma’am,"

Rael hailed her, and his face was filled with mockery.

"Don’t call me ma’am," Sera frowned, and her eyebrows furrowed.

"Sorry, dear," Rael apologized, and his tone was full of sarcasm.

"Damn it,"

Sera clicked her tongue, and her cheeks turned a deep shade of red.

’This is going to be a long day,’

With that, she buried her head in her hands and groaned.

’Why do I have to take him with me?’

’My heart can’t handle being with him for long.’
