Chapter 28: Chapter 28 Zhongyuan Hall

Treasure Pavilion had to limit the sale of jade due to tight supply, and Ziya Biology’s Beauty Water had already taken the nation by storm. Cosmetic companies nationwide and even globally were closing down as a result.

However, Ziya Biology had no choice but to raise the price of Beauty Water, but this wasn’t because they wanted to hike the prices maliciously, but because the quantity of raw Beauty Water provided by Yan Rufeng was dwindling.

In just half a month, Yan Rufeng had received over ten billion in dividends, but he had invested all of it in constructing Wolong Abyss.

However, it was far from enough, as Zhou Tong informed him that building the nearly thousand-acre underground palace, and refilling it afterward just to build a palace complex above ground, would require at least a trillion in expenditures.

This was the first time Yan Rufeng felt the pressure of financial concerns.

At Treasure Pavilion, Yan Rufeng found Mr. Zhang.

"Why are you limiting the sales?"

Mr. Zhang spread his hands, "Mr. Yan, jade is hard to come by; it’s an unavoidable situation."

Yan Rufeng thought it over.

"Starting tomorrow, purchase jade scraps nationwide. Bring all of it to me no matter how much you get."

Although Mr. Zhang didn’t understand what he intended to do with jade scraps, he had no choice but to follow Yan Rufeng’s orders.

Collecting jade scraps was much easier than acquiring quality jade because sometimes buying raw jade relies on gambling; if you’re unlucky, you might end up with worthless stones.

The first batch of jade scraps, totaling one hundred tons, arrived, and Yan Rufeng hurried over as soon as he got the news.

Three days later, just after finishing the refining process, Yan Rufeng called Mr. Zhang over.

"Mr. Zhang, although these jade pieces aren’t as perfect as high-quality jade, go ahead and sell the carved products at a lower price,"

Watching the hundreds of tons of jade products, Mr. Zhang had no idea how he had transformed waste into finished products, but he knew this was another big profit opportunity.

Refining hundreds of tons of jade in one go had severely drained Yan Rufeng’s spiritual energy, and he was exhausted. Returning to Jade Garden, he fell asleep as soon as he lay down; it was his first real rest since his rebirth.

But just as he fell asleep, Xiaxia woke him up.

"Brother Rufeng, we’ve run out of stock! We’re going to have no supplies!"

Adjusting his body, Yan Rufeng sat up.

"Xiaxia, don’t worry. I’ll head to the medicinal herb shop now to buy some herbs. We’ll have Beauty Water by tomorrow!"

"Brother Rufeng, you don’t look well. Are you sick?"

Smiling lightly, Yan Rufeng reassured the worried Xiaxia, "I’m fine. Your Brother Rufeng is strong and healthy!"

With that, he brushed Xiaxia’s nose, a gesture that thankfully Murong Xue didn’t see, or she would have been jealous again.

Yan Rufeng arrived at Zhongzhou’s largest herbal medicine shop, Zhongyuan Hall.

He walked in and handed a list to the staff.

"Get the herbs listed here."

The staff glanced at the list and asked in surprise, "Sir, are you sure?"

Yan Rufeng nodded.

Looking troubled, the staff said, "Sir, we have all the herbs on this list, but we can’t supply that quantity."

"I’ll take however much you have."

"Please wait while I report to our store manager."

The staff returned with an elderly man who appeared to be around sixty years old.

The elderly man carefully scrutinized Yan Rufeng. "Young man, can you tell me what you need so many herbs for?"

Yan Rufeng had intended to buy the herbs and then leave to refine the Youthful Pill, but the old man’s questions annoyed him. If it weren’t for the severe depletion of his spiritual energy, he would have flown to the deep mountains and picked the herbs himself using Sword Control.

"Sir, I’m here to buy things. Just tell me whether you’ll sell or not; there’s no need to ask so many questions."

Seeing the displeased Yan Rufeng, the old man realized he was being intrusive, but his queries weren’t just out of curiosity.

Every herb Yan Rufeng wanted was used for conditioning and nourishing the body, but combined, they would produce toxins. Consuming them wouldn’t just fail to improve health—it would harm the user. Although the poisoning could be treated, it would take a long time.

The old man felt for a moment that this young man must be manufacturing harmful medicine pills.

With a serene smile, the old man said, "Young man, if you don’t explain what you need these for, I’m afraid you won’t be able to buy a single herb from us."

"If you won’t sell, I won’t buy. Why so much nonsense?" Yan Rufeng stormed out in anger.

Just as he reached the door, he saw an older woman with a sallow face.

"It seems this woman’s illness hasn’t had effective treatment for a long time; she might not have much time left."

Yan Rufeng stopped to see what herbs the woman was buying.

As she finished her purchase and was about to leave, Yan Rufeng approached.

"Auntie, can I see the herbs you bought?"

The woman hesitated but agreed.

As Yan Rufeng inspected the herbs, the scene was noticed by the store manager of Zhongyuan Hall.

Frowning at the herbs the woman bought, Yan Rufeng said, "Auntie, I suggest you don’t take these herbs."

The woman was stunned. "Young man, what do you mean? Without these herbs, I could die."

"If you keep taking them, you’ll die even sooner," Yan Rufeng said calmly.

"Young man, do you understand medicine? If not, don’t make reckless statements here; you could really harm someone!"

The store manager of Zhongyuan Hall bellowed in anger.

Yan Rufeng replied confidently, "Who’s harming who here?"

"Young man, stop spewing nonsense. I’ve endured your antics long enough. If you don’t give me a reasonable explanation today, you won’t leave Zhongyuan Hall."

"Ha!"

"Alright, let’s talk about it today."

"This auntie’s illness, built up over many years, is already terminal. These herbs mixed together only assist in keeping her meridians clear and conditioning her body; they only treat the symptoms, not the root cause."

The old man was puzzled by Yan Rufeng’s words. "How does he know the effectiveness of these herbs? He’s so young; he shouldn’t be aware of the effects of my prescription."

"Ha!"

"Surprising, young man, you do have some skills!"

"Hmph."

"Do you know what your behavior is called?"

"What?"

"Malicious harm."

"Young man, you infuriate me!" The old man’s beard flared up in anger.

"If this auntie continues taking these herbs, she won’t live to see the new year," said Yan Rufeng earnestly.

The woman dropped the herbs, stunned. "So, I have no hope of survival."

"Boohoo!"

She began to cry in despair.

"Dear sister, don’t listen to this young man’s nonsense. You’ll be fine," tried to console the old man.

"Ha!"

"You can’t cure her, yet you accuse me of nonsense? Interesting."

The old man flushed with anger. "I admit I can’t cure her completely, but I can prevent the disease from progressing. What about you? Besides scaring patients with exaggerated statements, what else can you do?"

"Even if I can’t do anything else, as long as I can cure this auntie, that’s enough."

The old man scoffed, "Arrogant! I’ve practiced medicine for decades and can’t cure her. You, a mere youth, dare to boast?"

"What if I cure her?" Yan Rufeng challenged.

"If you cure her, I’ll give you all the herbs you want for free," the old man said confidently.

"Alright, just don’t go back on your word."

Yan Rufeng approached the woman, examining her carefully. "Do you have silver needles?"

"Acupuncture?"

Immediately, the old man leaped up in fury.

"Young man, if you can’t treat the disease, just admit it. Don’t harm people."

Hands behind his back, Yan Rufeng said sternly, "How am I harming her?"

"Her condition can’t be treated with needles. If you use acupuncture, it will accelerate her bodily aging and lead to organ failure and death."

"Ignorance."

"If she dies under my care, I’ll take responsibility. It won’t be your concern," Yan Rufeng continued plainly.

"Elder Song, let him try. I’ve struggled with this illness for over a decade. If this young man’s treatment kills me, it’s my fate. But if he cures me, it’s my blessing," the woman said.

Seeing the patient’s resolve, Elder Song had no choice but to let it be.
