Chapter 86: Zheng Yimu’s Reason
After hearing what Zheng Yimu’s said, Xiu Wu exchanged looks with his two friends. He thought for a moment, stood up, and walked towards the door. He looked at Zheng Yimu and asked calmly, "Does Captain Zheng have any experience in forging armor or weapons?"
Zheng Yimu nodded and said, "I work in the support division because my previous work in the army was weapons manufacturing. Also, after the end of the world, I awakened the ability of metal elements. If Captain Xiu is willing to give me a chance, I can try to forge a weapon or armor for you."
Contrary to Zheng Yimu’s expectation, when Xiu Wu heard that his qualifications were too good, he narrowed his eyes and asked coldly, "What is Captain Zheng’s reason for applying for this job? As one of the captains of the support division, you didn’t lack anything. You have no reason to come here and apply for this job."
Hearing Xiu Wu’s words, Zheng Yimu looked at Ji Yang and asked, "Can we go in and talk?"
Ji Yang nodded, stepped aside, and said with a smile, "Please come in, Captain Zheng."
After Zheng Yimu thanked Ji Yang, he followed Xiu Wu to the living room. The moment he stepped into the apartment, Zheng Yimu was surprised by the temperature difference. Recalling that these three men knew Zhu Lin, he knew that something must be installed in this apartment, and it must be Zhu Lin’s work.
Unlike Zhu Lin’s apartment which is beautifully decorated, Ji Yang and Tan Wei’s apartment is almost empty. Of all the rooms in the apartment, only the kitchen has some furniture. There are only some cooking utensils, a dining table and four chairs in the kitchen.
Tan Wei smiled at Zheng Yimu and said, "We have nothing here, so Captain Zheng can sit wherever you like."
Zheng Yimu nodded to Tan Wei and sat in front of him. After Xiu Wu and Ji Yang sat on the floor, Xiu Wu looked at Zheng Yimu and asked without emotion on his face.
"Can Captain Zheng tell me your reason now?"
In the past, Zheng Yimu heard some rumors about Xiu Wu’s cold personality and ruthless behavior. When they met yesterday, he thought that these rumors were all false. But seeing him again today, Zheng Yimu came to the conclusion that Xiu Wu was only gentle and warm towards Zhu Lin.
After observing them for a while, Zheng Yimu looked at the three men in front of him and said, "Before I tell you my reason, can I take a look at the materials first?"
Xiu Wu thought for a while, then nodded to Ji Yang. With his permission, Ji Yang took out the skin, horns and fangs of the giant snake from his space. Putting those materials on the floor, Ji Yang said, "These are the materials. Captain Zheng can take a look at them at ease."
Zheng Yimu nodded at him, then looked at the materials on the ground. The moment he saw the materials, his eyes flickered for a second. Since Xiu Wu’s sight never left Zheng Yimu, he saw the subtle changes in his expression in that split second.
Zheng Yimu reached out and took the giant snake’s skin and examined it carefully. Then he put down the skin and examined the horns and fangs. After a while, he looked at them and said, "I came here to see what kind of materials Captain Xiu has."
"I don’t think that Captain Zheng came here only to see the materials." Xiu Wu said calmly.
Zheng Yimu nodded and said, "Captain Xiu is right. As we all know, less than two percent of the soldiers in this base manage to successfully awaken their abilities. As ordinary humans, it is very difficult for these soldiers to go out to perform missions. Less than ten percent of soldiers can go out to perform missions after we established this base and within three months, more than forty percent of the soldiers died in the line of duty."
Then he looked at the materials on the floor and said, "If we can really use new materials to forge stronger weapons and armor, then the casualty rate of soldiers and ordinary people will be greatly reduced. Moreover, if we can popularize this new knowledge, I believe that those who don’t awaken their abilities also have higher survival rates."
Hearing what he said, Xiu Wu said, "Indeed, supernatural beings only account for less than five percent of the remaining total population. If we can really popularize this new knowledge, we will gain a lot of combat power from these ordinary humans."
When Zheng Yimu heard what Xiu Wu said, he looked at him in surprise. Seeing the surprise in his eyes, Xiu Wu asked, "Does Captain Zheng think I won’t share this knowledge?"
Looking at his embarrassed expression, Xiu Wu said, "I didn’t intend to share this knowledge at the beginning. But since I am not the first person to discover this information, I have no right to make a decision."
Hearing this, Zheng Yimu looked at him and asked in confusion, "Then why did Captain Xiu openly hire a blacksmith and spread the news?"
Xiu Wu lowered his eyes, smiled slightly, and said, "Because she wants to share this information with the public, hoping that more people can survive and fewer people die."
Zheng Yimu looked at the slight smile on the corner of Xiu Wu’s lips, and the gentle expression on Xiu Wu’s face when he talked about this matter. At that moment, Zheng Yimu was sure that the first person who found out this information must be Zhu Lin.
He then nodded and said seriously, "If this knowledge can really be implemented, then I will personally visit and thank Miss Zhu for her generosity."
Before Ji Yang could say that Zheng Yimu didn’t need to do that, Xiu Wu narrowed his eyes dangerously and said coldly, "Captain Zheng doesn’t need to thank Xiao Lin personally. I will tell her about it later."
