Chapter 70: Looking For A Way To Help Them Indirectly

While Zhu Lin was still thinking and observing the surrounding environment, Tan Wei covered his mouth and nose, pointed to a pile of rotten meat crawling with bugs and flies on the side road and asked, "Everyone, look at that. Is it the same as what I am thinking now?"

Zhu Lin looked at the pile of rotten meat and said calmly: "Mhm. Those are half-decomposed corpses."

Hearing her calm answer, Tan Wei felt sick for a while. He felt his stomach churning and wanted to vomit, but he held back with a twisted expression.

He gritted his teeth, suppressing the nausea and said, "Let’s walk faster. Otherwise, I would vomit out my breakfast."

As they made their way through the outer ring area, several survivors saw four figures wearing ice blue color cloaks passing by their tents. The survivors poked their heads out of the tent and looked at the four figures curiously. After twenty minutes, they finally walked out of the gate of the outer ring area.

The moment he left the outer ring area, Tan Wei took a deep breath and said, "I’m about to suffocate to death just now. I wonder why the base didn’t take any action to clean those corpses."

Ji Yang looked back at the direction of the outer ring area, thought for a moment and said, "There are no soldiers guarding the entrance gates between the areas today. They don’t seem to have enough soldiers to clean up the corpses at the moment. It seems that not only the civilians have suffered the current hot temperature, but even the soldiers have suffered too."

Tan Wei sighed, and said, "Well, only five percent of the survivors have acquired abilities. As for the rest, they are still ordinary humans. In this extreme weather, their bodies are not as powerful as those who possess abilities."

After Tan Wei finished speaking, Zhu Lin said, "I heard that the water source has been exhausted, and the water produced by the supernatural beings possessing the water element is simply not enough to supply the entire population of this base with water."

Hearing Zhu Lin’s words, Xiu Wu nodded and said, "Mhm. Yesterday I saw soldiers leaving the base to find water. It seems that the situation in this base is even worse than I thought."

Hearing what he said, Ji Yang and Tan Wei exchanged glances. After returning to the base, the three of them had already decided to leave this military base. But due to unpredictable weather, they postponed the plan for the time being.

Besides, if Xiu Wu wants to take Zhu Lin with them, he needs time to persuade her to join their team first. For now, all they can do is wait for Xiu Wu to successfully persuade Zhu Lin to formally join their team, before they can leave this military base.

While the three men were busy thinking, Tu Tu looked at Zhu Lin and said, [Master, it seems that this base will not last much longer.]

Zhu Lin patted Tu Tu’s head lightly, and said, [Mhm. Before we leave, I want to do something to help as many people as I can.]

Tu Tu looked at her calm expression and said, [Master, you don’t really want to set up water element formation for them, do you? If you do it, then you are putting yourself at risk. Humans are inherently greedy creatures. If they know that your formation can create water and food for them, I am afraid there will be no peaceful days left for us. I really don’t want to kill them if I can.]

Zhu Lin knew that the rabbit was right to worry, so she nodded and said, [I know. That is why I’m looking for a way to help them indirectly.]

Tu Tu thought for a few seconds, before the rabbit’s eyes lit up and said, [I understand. No wonder you want to share information about mutants with them and the base. Turns out you have planned it from the start.]

Zhu Lin smiled at Tu Tu and calmly said, [It’s better to give them a fishing rod and teach them how to fish, rather than just give them the fish directly.]

While the two of them were talking, they arrived at the main entrance of the military base. Unlike Zhu Lin’s first time when she came to the base, there are only a few soldiers guarding the walls and gates.

Tan Wei looked at the soldiers who were standing in the shade of the wall and said, "It must be very hard for them to be on duty in this hot weather."

Ji Yang nodded and said, "Everyone is struggling to survive, including the soldiers."

Seeing four people wearing cloaks approaching, the soldiers guarding the main gate stopped them.

A soldier looked at them and said, "Please go back and come out after sunset. Today’s temperature has exceeded forty two degrees Celsius. If you don’t want to die from heat stroke, it’s best to stay at home during the day."

Hearing the soldier’s reminder, Ji Yang smiled at him, took out a bottle of mineral water from his space and said, "Comrade, you have worked hard."

After speaking, he handed the mineral water to the soldier. Seeing his hesitation, Ji Yang smiled and said, "It’s hard to get water now. You should take this."

The soldier looked at his comrades and found that they all had chapped lips and red skin from dehydration and the hot weather. After thinking for a few seconds, he took the mineral water Ji Yang handed over and said, "Thank you."

Ji Yang nodded and said, "My team is going out today. Can you open the side gate for us?"

Seeing that they were all wearing cloaks that covered their bodies, the soldier nodded and said, "Be careful outside. We received information that a team from the supply division was wiped out by a swarm of mosquitoes last night."

After speaking, he gestured to another soldier and said, "Open the gate."
