Before Teng Bai could say that he had never seen any water sources outside, Mao Yan raised his head and said, "Supply Division, go out and find water sources. Bring back as much water as possible, and all of you must come back within three days."

Song Chengsu and other seven men stood up, saluted Mao Yan, and said in unison: "Yes, Commander!"

After accepting the task, they sat back in their seats. Mao Yan stood up and said, "Whether you can get the water back or not, I hope all of you can come back alive."

The soldiers looked at him, and said, "Yes, Commander!"

Mao Yan took a careful look at their faces, tried hard to remember all of them, and then said with a heavy heart: "Dismiss."

After finishing speaking, he looked at Lu Cai and said, "Doctor Lu, let me escort you back."

Lu Cai did not refuse because of the chaotic situation outside, and the two of them left the meeting room together.

After Mao Yan left, Teng Bai looked at Song Chengsu and asked, "Captain Song, do you want me to go with you?"

Song Chengsu shook his head and said, "Thank you for your offer, but no need. You’d better stay behind in case something happened."

Hearing his words, Teng Bai frowned slightly and asked, "Do you think those people will riot?"

Song Chengsu nodded, and said, "When I’m on my way here, I found that there were many unattended corpses lying on the streets in the outer ring area. We should send several teams to clean the streets and burn those corpses. At such a high temperature, I am afraid that if we ignore those corpses, what we need to face next time is not zombies or mutants, but plague."

Hearing his words, Teng Bai’s expression sank. At high temperatures, corpses decompose faster than usual. If the situation is really as bad as Song Chengsu said, then they really need to clean up the streets quickly.

Seeing him lost in thought, Song Chengsu smiled, patted his shoulder, and said, "Don’t frown, or you really won’t be able to marry in this life. Don’t you know how scary you look when you frown?"

Teng Bai grabbed his wrist, moved Song Chengsu’s hand away from his shoulder, and said, "Don’t worry about my love life. You should hurry up and get ready to go out."

After finishing speaking, he pinched his nose in disgust, turned around and left. Looking at his back, Teng Bai suddenly said, "Come back alive."

Hearing what he said, Song Chengsu’s steps paused for a second, before he raised his hand and waved at Teng Bai without looking back. Living in this apocalyptic era, it is hard to say whether they will meet again or not. It is best not to say any farewell words, as this may bring bad luck.

An hour later, twenty four large military trucks left the military base. Standing on the top of the outer wall of the base, Teng Bai watched the military trucks drive in different directions. He stood there for a while before one of his subordinates came.

The soldier handed a document to Teng Bai and said, "Captain, we got a secret mission."

Teng Bai opened the dispatch document and read it, then glanced at the soldier, and asked, "Who issued this mission?"

"It’s Colonel Chen."

Teng Bai thought for a while and said, "All our missions should be issued directly by Commander Mao. This document does not have Commander Mao’s signature."

He thought for a few seconds before asking, "When did Colonel Chen issue this mission?"

The soldier glanced at his watch and said, "Ten minutes ago, they sent this dispatch document to our barracks. As for when the mission was issued, I asked many times and they refused to answer."

Hearing the soldier’s answer, Teng Bai nodded and said, "Go back to our barrack and wait."

The soldier saluted and said, "Yes, Sir."

After the soldiers left, Teng Bai went to the command center to look for Mao Yan. Just when everyone in the base was extremely busy and anxious, Zhu Lin finally woke up.

She sat up, looked out the window, saw the bright sky, and thought: ’I should have slept for at least a few hours. Why is the sun still so bright?’

While she was in a daze, someone knocked on the door.

Knock, knock, knock.

Zhu Lin looked in the direction of the door for a few seconds before getting up to open the door. As soon as she opened the door, Zhu Lin felt the temperature difference between the inside of her apartment and the outside. Inside her apartment, it felt as cozy as an early autumn day, but outside it felt like she was standing inside the alchemy room of the God of Medicine.

After a moment of silence, a sweet voice came. "Are you a new resident who just moved in this morning?"

Hearing the sweet voice, Zhu Lin looked down and saw a petite young woman. This young woman is not beautiful, but she has a lovely face, which makes people like her and has a good impression on her.

Seeing that Zhu Lin just stared at her without speaking, the young woman smiled and said, "Hello, my name is Meng Zhelan. My apartment is next to yours."

Zhu Lin nodded to her and said, "Hello."

Looking at Zhu Lin’s beautiful face and hearing her clear and calming voice, Meng Zhelan was stunned. After a few seconds, she came back to her senses and said quickly: "I’m sorry to disturb you."

Seeing her being so polite, Zhu Lin shook her head and said, "It’s fine. Do you need something?"

Meng Zhelan smiled and said, "The temperature is very high today, and many people died of heatstroke. I heard that the water source in the base has dried up, and we are already short of water. I just came to tell you that I am selling water. Would you like to buy some water?"
