Chapter 190: The Teams are Chosen
Hearing Adam’s words Joshua became very angry. His calm noble demeanor finally cracked. He stepped towards Adam his hands clenching into fists at his sides. "You have a lot of faith in your team," he said his voice a low growl. It was a statement but it sounded like a threat.
Hearing Joshua’s words Adam moved forward even more. He closed the small distance between them completely. He stood right in front of Joshua invading his personal space their chests almost touching. He looked the powerful fourth-year leader directly in the eye. "I have more faith in my team than I have in myself," he said his voice quiet but firm and full of a strange power.
Hearing Adam’s powerful declaration of trust his team which was standing nervously behind him was very surprised. They looked at each other their eyes wide with disbelief.
They didn’t know that Adam their new and mysterious leader paid so much attention to them. They didn’t know he trusted them so much. Although everyone was looking at each other peacefully a great deal of surprise was in everyone’s eyes. They were also surprised that Adam was not fighting the Golden Team or any other team directly this time.
Instead he was challenging them in exchange for his team’s hard work their ability to complete missions. He was betting on them their skills and their potential. Although it was still not clear whether their group would even be officially established or not.
The Principal had not yet announced that "Eric" had obtained the Emperor’s signature. He had only given him a week’s time.
Seeing Adam’s complete confidence everyone in the cafeteria was very surprised especially his own team members. His members did not feel so confident about their own capabilities. They were just first-years after all. Joshua the leader of the Golden Group was also very surprised. He took his eyes off Adam.
He looked past him at his team. He could also see that Adam’s team members were not nearly as confident as their leader. He saw the doubt and the fear in their eyes. Seeing this his own confidence also increased a lot. And then Joshua looked back at Adam and said with a smirk
"So are you ready to call all the members of the Golden Group ’Master’ for the next four years? Because that is what will happen when you lose." The challenge was set. The stakes were high. And the entire cafeteria was watching. The first great competition of the new academic year was about to begin.
But Adam completely ignored Joshua’s mocking words about his team becoming servants. He said "I am also very excited. I have something going on in my mind too." Saying this Adam turned his head slightly. He looked across the bustling cafeteria to where the girls from Section A were seated.
He looked directly at Alina and Monica. He smiled a small knowing smile. And seeing him smile at them Monica was very surprised when she found that Adam that is "Eric" was looking directly at her.
Alina knowing the plan that Adam had already told her in the park understood Adam’s signal. She also smiled back at him a small gesture of support from across the room.
But Monica had many questions running through her mind. What is Eric thinking of doing? she wondered. She didn’t know what he would do now. Because even if Monica thought logically what Adam was trying to do was almost impossible. The Golden Group team had far more members.
They were far more experienced and powerful. And they could easily defeat this new group The New Warriors in any kind of competition. Although Monica also did not know that this new group was not even officially established yet. They didn’t even have the Emperor’s signature.
Then Adam turned his head back. He looked at Joshua his smile confident. "I will now announce the names of my team members from my side who will participate in this competition," he said his voice clear and loud.
"And you can take the names of any five people from your group. I don’t care what year they study in. We are so confident that we will defeat them too."
Hearing this Joshua was very surprised. Although Adam had deliberately said the last sentence the part about defeating even the most powerful senior students to distract Joshua.
He wanted to make sure that Joshua would not pay much attention to the details of the bet. He did not want Joshua to think too much about the fact that he only had to choose a team of five members for this competition. And Adam’s psychological trick also worked perfectly.
Adam wants to put himself in the best position possible in every way so that he does not lose this competition in any way.
Because Joshua smiled a confident smile and said "We will send our front-end team for this mission. They are our best and most experienced mission takers. In which," he paused for a moment a cunning look in his eyes "we will remove two of our powerful fourth-year members and we will add first-year Alina and first-year Monica to the team."
Hearing this everyone present there in the cafeteria was very surprised. The front-end team was the Golden Group’s elite mission squad. They were famous throughout the Academy. Even without two of their fourth-year members they were still incredibly powerful. Joshua’s choice was both a show of his own confidence and a very clever political move.
He was stacking the deck in his favor while also trying to create division. The first great battle of the new Academy year was about to begin. The stakes were high and the teams were now chosen. The whole cafeteria waited to hear Adam’s response to this powerful lineup.
The front-end team of the Golden Group was famous throughout the United Academy. They were the team that completed the most missions. Their mission success rate was also incredibly high.
They had successfully completed seven A-rank missions twelve B-rank missions twenty-five C-rank missions and forty-eight D-rank missions so far. They had also completed more than a hundred F-rank missions. Even though Joshua had removed two of their powerful fourth-year members from the team for this competition this team was still very powerful. The remaining members were seasoned veterans.
Although Joshua had deliberately added the last two team members Alina and Monica. He knew that Alina was Adam’s friend. He had taken this step to create mental stress for Adam’s team. And Monica was added so that he could win over most of the first-year students to his side. This step was very necessary for him. He was a shrewd political player.
Adam stood there like that for a while. He considered the team Joshua had put forth. But then he smiled a confident smile. "I agree," he said his voice clear and firm. "And my team will be me Void Kado Ryan and Robin."
Hearing Adam’s words Joshua turned back and sat down at his table. He looked at Adam and said "I agree to the bet. Tonight at 7 o’clock we will count the completed missions. Whoever loses will have to obey the other’s words. No exceptions."
Adam also kept smiling. But his team members especially the four people he had just named were very surprised. They were in a lot of panic. Void was not much affected by the pressure. But the rest of the members Kado Ryan and Robin were in a lot of panic. Because they knew the Golden team was the strongest faction in the entire Academy. They held the most resources.
They had the most powerful members. And their new group The New Warriors didn’t even have an official certificate from the Principal yet. They were not even a real group in the eyes of the Academy.
Most of the eighty members who had joined their group were still in a dilemma. They were wondering if they should stay in this group or not. Because they didn’t know if the group would become permanent or if Eric could really get the Emperor’s signature. But Adam didn’t care about their thoughts their doubts. He had a plan. He also turned from there.
And while leaving he said "See you then at 7 o’clock tonight." He said this to Joshua. And he left from there with his team which was following uncertainly behind him. The entire cafeteria was buzzing with excitement.
The biggest bet of the new academic year had just been made. And everyone was eager to see the outcome. It was a battle between the established old guard and the new rebellious upstart. And no one knew who would win.
